  1. My 2 cents..... When I log on to HSN 3.0 and see updated responses on a particular recruit, I click it to see what updates there are. I don't need to see all the OT stuff that gets posted. That's why an "OFF TOPIC" thread was started in the General Basketball forum...... Use it Again, just my 2 pennies

  2. Meh... I just think the “we can still be just fine with lesser talent” attitude is kind of a loser’s mentality. IU hired Archie to be better than that, and he set the standard by getting Romeo. I want to see that kind of recruiting success continue.

  3. Real problem for college coaches will be going after those guys who are borderline NBA possibilities coming out of high school and prioritizing them with the idea it could be all for nothing in the end, should they choose the NBA route.

  4. IMO a losers’ mentality was developed during Crean’s early seasons. It gave him extra time/ leeway, and the fanbase bought in to the idea that a long multiple season turnaround was the only path back to success. In hindsight, that was complete malarkey thrown out by a guy that was in over his head. With the right coach, the idea that IU can’t land top talent year in and year out is laughable. At least one 5 star every year needs to be the goal if we want to get back to elite. Also, stop with the “it’s going to take time” crap. That’s the exact kind of losers mentality that kept Tom

  5. I see TJD as a must-get. He's an in-state 5-star who fills a team need. Keion is a perfect compliment to TJD and together with a guard like Newman would make a tremendous class but Trayce is the key and it would be a monster disappointment if he went elsewhere. I'd fall into the camp that feels like IU would lose a lot of momentum if both Brooks and Jackson-Davis went elsewhere.

  6. Yeah, I just don’t agree. IU will not become a nationally relevant program again if it doesn’t start regularly landing 5 star recruits. Talent acquisition is the most important thing in college basketball. And the 2019 class is even more important when you look at the relatively shallow pool of talent in Indiana in the class of 2020. I still think TJD is Bloomington-bound, and we will be in on Brooks until the very end. But if we miss on both, Archie will have failed to capitalize on any of the momentum IU gained with the Romeo commitment. That can’t happen.

  7. Maybe, they may also have to hold scholarships since the new rule also might allow them to go to college if they are not drafted. Will change how you recruit and how stingy you will become with scholarship. Schools could really get some good players if they have open scholarships in say June

  8. Missed a lot being gone for the weekend. Had a feeling DJ was close to committing. From his perspective, OSU is probably the most attractive due to the immediate playing time. Maybe he realized Phinisee was better than him on his visit here? DJ was a luxury- not a necessity. What this tells me is IU, Michigan, OSU and MSU are going to be tough - on the recruiting trail and on the court- in the next few years.

  9. Give it rest guys. A 5 star recruit chose a school where he was guaranteed to start and has a better program for his field of study. This is not on archie.

  11. Yeah that loser mentality has gotten Villanova two national championships in the last 4 years. I want IU to build their roster like them rather than how UK or Duke builds their roster.

  12. Agreed. Michigan should feel worse than us.

  13. I would agree with previous posters that TJD is the main priority for this class. Land TJD...and this class can basically be filled in with solid longterm guys that we should definitely be able to get. Also- I'll get crucified for saying this- but 5 star recruits are overrated. They often times only stay a year. Sure- it'd be fun to land some, but for crying out loud- Butler made two national title game runs without a single top 50 recruit. I know Butler is largely the exception, but I'd argue solid 4-star guys with one homerun every year or two is probably the most likely scenario t

  15. What "negative B.S." did he have to deal with? Tom Crean dug his own grave. Oversigning year in and year out, playing a brand of ball not fitting to IU (high turnovers, no defense), no consistency, etc. was all on Tom Crean. No one else. I appreciate him coming to IU but he failed to live up to expectations. That's on him. That's the life of a coach

  19. One of the refreshing things about this forum is that to my knowledge, there are no such college sports related websites on any list that I'm aware of. The only irritation I have is seeing a link for ESPN Insider or another pay service I'm not subscribed to. As far as I can see, this forum welcomes "competitor" material so long as it's properly attributed.

  22. Here’s a slightly OT thought about these recruiting threads and them occasionally going off the rails and people getting mad about it: We are mostly not hearing anything at all on any front. People should perhaps have faith that when there’s news or movement it will be posted in the appropriate threads. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating for free reign of anyone wishing to highjack a topic. I’m really not. But, the incessant piling on of folks clamoring to get back to the recruit in question when a couple/few members want to have a sidebar is fairly comical. We all get it. We all

  24. The pool of top 30 players will be cut in half when 10-15 go straight to the NBA... Agreed. It appears that Archie is targeting players in the 10-30 range, and then looking to supplement that with players in the top 100. I like that approach.

  26. I agree with you...especially the Kentucky part. They went far and away much harsher with their words and vitrol for Tubby and Gillespie. I would never condone what is reportedly been said and done to Creans family...but I do think that Glass was a bit slow to move and that created a more hostile environment for Crean. I'm sure many a fan thought the only way to get attention of the administration (at least any without big $$) was to boo and vocally show their displeasure of Tom's job. I appreciate his efforts...I don't think he just coasted or made a money grab. He tried very hard and I would

  28. One in each class and none of them were one and done so try again young man. I never said I did not want any one and done players but not the way UK or Duke does it. Also on Villanova their 5 star players were ranked between 15-20 in their class and those guys are less likely to be one and done.
    2 points
  29. I don't mind one a class but I don't want 4 or 5 one and done players each year. Also not all 5 stars are the same because some might not have the mentality that they will only be there one year and leave.

  31. I would preferably like to be landing at least one every year, sometimes more. And I don’t think that’s unreasonable either. If you look at who Archie’s going after in the class of 2019, it’s primarily 5 stars in TJD, Brooks, Carton, Watford, Stewart, and Hurt. Then he has a few four stars worked in in Newman and Franklin. There will usually be multiple 5 stars in the state of Indiana, so we should almost always be in the mix for at least one. And look at what Holtmann is doing at OSU... There’s going to be a recruiting arms race in the Big Ten, and I don’t want to lose. The elite progra

  34. For a coach that just landed the three best recruits in the state last year he has built up enough report with me that if he doesn’t land a follow up class like that I’m not going to be worried. I think TJD is coming...but even if he doesn’t we will be just fine. Lots of other good targets. We have guys on this roster just as good if not will be better than him I feel. Archie just needs to win on the court and improve this team. If he does that recruiting will come. He isn’t going to hit a home run every year. Some years we will have smaller classes some years we won’t have playing time for a

  37. Don’t disagree with most of this, but if Milehi is getting info and being asked not to share who from, why would you want him to drop a name if it would cause the person to stop giving info to him? If you choose not to believe him or his sources, then fine, but don’t think it’s fair to expect him to name names.

  38. Well in terms that Knight used himself. Claiming that he (Knight) did not treat Larry right. And that it was one of the biggest mistakes he ever made as the coach of Indiana University. And if he (Knight) had it to do over, Knight would have handled Larry differently. In addition to his dissing Larry on a street of Bloomington.... there also was the time when Larry came to Coach Knight for help. And got thrown out of the office. Not physically. Situation was, that an upcoming event was going to require the IU players to wear a suit and tie. Something that Larry did not own, nor had eve

  40. I think he will still get major recruits...even if they aren't one and done or straight to the NBA type. Cal is very good at some things. He is good about getting kids to put their egos aside and trust him to do what is right by them. He is very good at relating to these kids and convincing them he is there for them...and they aren't there for the University. He certainly struggles with his X and Os and I'm not sure he is an excellent developer of talent ...these kids already have a ton of that...but he gets them to play together and they usually learn to play pretty good defense. That said Ca

  43. I am so happy the one and done era appears to be close to an end, so we can stop this debate of how to construct a championship team. It will just be get the best players that don't enter the draft out of high school. Those kids will likely have to stay and prove themselves in college for at least a couple of years because there will always be elite high school talent that will be coming out of high school and jumping to the NBA.

  44. Something I find noteworthy about Carton's decision is his statement about the atmosphere around the existing OSU players. I know of a player we were looking at that chose Butler while Holtmann was there (Joey Brunk). The player cited the "family feeling" around the team as a major factor. It just goes to show the importance of the culture around a program and how much a coach defines it.

Well, Jeffries said at least a couple of things that deserve attention..."I knew he was always hunting for new jobs" conflicts with the idea that he only started looking at the end of his tenure when he felt he was on the hot seat. I'd love to know what the truth was between those two as they show two very different sides of the man. ...and I'd agree with Jeffries about hating the oversign. As a fan, you want to believe that your coach knows what he's doing with the oversign, but after the fact, I can't help wondering if that oversign habit didn't force several players into decisions th
