  5. Truer words were never spoken. When my wife and I go to a restaurant, any restaurant fast food or otherwise, I always sit facing the main entrance. Take notice of people. I worked at Chicago ARTCC from 2000 until I transferred to Houston in 2012. I had moved on by the time the Chicago ARTCC fire happened in 2014. Now, I used to sit next to the guy that did this at the 7:40 automation meeting every morning. He was, in a word, weird. Gauge earrings, tattoos all over, and dressed like a Goth. When I heard the news, his was the first name I thought of. He wheeled a couple of gallons of

  7. Mixed feelings about the play for pay wall. I get the potential appeal to recruits and maybe fans, but it has a bit of a Kentucky feel to it. Does IU recognize a brief stint in the NBA or playing internationally above Dr Green, Dr Ahlfeld, Chris Reynolds, PhD, and on and on? Not sure about the message that’s conveyed by differentiating recognition of former players by whether they played professionally

  8. No. In the early days of cable, WGN used to broadcast all 162 Cubs game, unless they were preempted by NBC's Saturday Game of the Week. That spawned Cub fans all over the US. That's why they travel so well. That's why people go to the games. Go to Chicago sometime. It's the Cub's city. I follow the Cubs through thick and thin. And of the fans I know, I'm not alone. The Braves and TBS did pretty much the same thing.

  10. In my opinion the SEC gets a huge lift from Alabama, who - along with Clemson - are in a league of their own. Take Alabama out of the SEC, and the perception goes down substantially. I think the SEC and Big Ten are very equal top to bottom otherwise. The SEC also gets a big lift in perception from ESPN.

  14. Yes, Ball U did the same last year vs Notre Dame. They don't play with the same intensity in the MAC as they do against in state schools. Lets see a couple more games before we decide IU's fate.

  15. Without Justus. IU does not win the game. FG's of 48, 49, and 50 yards. And one for a measly 30 yards. WOW !

  18. I've gone through it. I'm one of two "safety wardens" for my office (meaning we get cpr/defib training, do counts if there's a fire, etc). For the average person "Run, Hide, Fight" isn't a bad approach. As a part of it, I drew up evac/safety plans for multiple scenarios (based on points of infiltration, weapons, etc). I know the layout of our building between my office and the ground floor, and know where to head at each level if my prime route is cut off.

  20. Hear ya. Would not call it a pay for play wall. That's my term for this topic. Just label it as former IU players that continued playing after leaving IU. AND.... there are a ton of them. Including Jordan Hulls. I am sure there would be visiting recruits impressed by that.

  21. Thank you. But I'm in civilian government service now. And that's what they teach. I work in a secure facility, so no weapons are allowed to be brought in. Of course, all that means is the only one with a gun would be the bad guy. We do have security people, but they're contractors, and I don't have a lot of faith in them to stop something like that. That said, I guess a lot of what anyone would do depends on where they are when something goes down. I like to think I'd try to do something other than run and hide if something did go down, but I sincerely hope I'm never put in th

  23. Not true. I've been a Cub fan all my life and once you've seen Wrigley, you've seen it. I went, if the team was good or bad, because I was a fan of the team. Plenty like me, too...

  30. Childhood friend of mine moved to Nashville years ago. Married into UT family. Unhealthy devastation is the term she used this morning.... but more dangerous than dumb fans....getting to the apathy levels which is when you really lose a program forever. Nebraska was the same until Frost was hired. I don't know how or why it didn't happen but Mike Leach needs to be in the SEC. Might as well call him back up if I'm a UT fan.

  33. I didn’t hear about McCoy yet - makes feel better about not getting my able to get Williams. With Pollard on my team I’m hoping all this optimism is just positive spin. One more draft on Wednesday for me - a ‘fun’ league with a lot of first time, non-serious players. Half the pot goes to a fundraiser but I have no problem taking the rest. 😎

  34. I think most are yeah. A lot of freshmen are going to play significant minutes and there will be some growing pains for sure. Good question re Sindelar. Honestly it’s TBD. When he has a clean pocket, the guy can be really good. A lot of his mistakes come when he is under pressure or when he throws off his back foot when the pocket starts to collapse. I think a lot of it depends on how well the o-line holds up. But his backup is a RS freshman who’s never taken a snap so that’d be interesting. This is the first year in the Brohm era where he doesn’t have the luxury to turn to either Blough

  35. I believe the news is that when he announces a game at home he has to wear a rug or hat because the reflection coming off his head is the real reason for the shooting woes at home. Sounds like the kind of news chrome dome would have first hand knowledge of.

  38. Difficult start for sure. Hell, we beat Virginia in an off year previously. Not a great way to represent the league. Disappointing for a team and fanbase that has set expectations so high.

  39. I think it's extremely difficult to project ANYTHING about nearly any team from the first game of the season. In 2013 IU beat ISU 73-35 in the opening game and failed to make a bowl. Last year Purdue lost the first three and still made a bowl. Whether it's IU winning a closer than comfortable one against Ball State, Purdue giving up a big lead to Nevada, or Penn State or Maryland blowing out their opponent, I'm not putting too much stock into the results this week.

  40. Haven't read any comments. My two cents. First game of year. Opponent that is playing their Super Bowl. We made mistakes but a win. I'm all good as a Hoosier fan today.

  41. If I had to hand out grades for the offense: Offensive Line: C Not getting a lot of push in the first half to run between the tackles, but they kept Penix upright for the majority of the game. Need a better push for our backs to make waves. Running Backs: B- It was a workman like day for Scott and crew. As the game progressed, it was encouraging to see the backs run through contact. Scott looks to have shed weight but still can push into the end zone when called on. Quarterback: B Freshman jitters got to Penix a couple of times with some poor throws early, but

  45. I love that Romeo signed it down by New Albany...a nice shout-out to his hometown. I don't care what his 3-point shooting was or that he grabbed the brass NBA ring while he could, Romeo will always be a Hoosier I have fond memories of. I probably like him a little more just because he gave Cal the finger early in the process.

  48. About eight years ago I was watching the weather report on the news about significant weather approaching! As I looked at the projections, I was like no problem, it will pass to the north of me. A feeling immediately came over me of how selfish my thought was, so I immediately prayed for those who would be in the path of the storm and then went to bed. About midnight I was awoken to my window blinds slapping in and out and the sound of a freight train approaching. After it passed I was looking out my kitchen window to see my neighbor a volunteer firefighter coming up the hill with his flashlig
