  2. It's possible to build your own home security system. Translation, don't spend a fortune with ADT or a similar company. They aren't scams, just overpriced. You're correct in that cameras aren't deterrents, but in addition to capturing faces and/or descriptions, they can capture background information, such as vehicle descriptions or license plates. Personal preference: motion activated with an option for constant record, video written to a dedicated hard drive/recording unit. If you have accessible attic space, go hardwired (POE/POC if you're hardcore). In terms of security sensors there's one thing to remember: prevent ingress. I've seen so many headaches over motion sensors on interior rooms. McFly....HELLOOOO....if they're in there, it's too late. Go with high quality but simple open/closed sensors on all windows and exterior doors (including the garage door and attic access) . Glass breakage sensors on 1st floor doors and windows, and any larger upper floor windows. Have a 2 stage siren. A "warning" level for the first 30 seconds followed by one that'll make your ears bleed. Inconspicuously mounted strobe lights are a nice touch for that post-warning phase on front or road facing windows if the alarm should get to stage 2. If you can program the sensors by zones, you can set upper floor or bedroom windows to automatically go to stage 2. And as a last line of defense, there's always this:

  8. When these top 5-10 H.S. kids start going straight to the pros there is going to be a smaller gap at the top. To say a top 25 kid is that much better than a 25-50 and then 50-100 is going to close the gap a lot. The only difference I can see now with those top 50 kids and top 100 is the ability and athleticism to contribute on day 1 and maybe go pro early. But those 50-100 kids after staying a year or even 2 will start beating out the new incoming freshman no matter their rank fairly quickly. As long as we get the ones we are suppose get and develop our 75-150 kids we will be able to compete with anybody’s 5*s before long because the very elite like Zion etc won’t even play college. There is a lot of 5* that aren’t even that polished...they are 5* because of their size or potential. I’d be happy to live in the 4* world and have them for a couple years surrounded with a backbone of Leals and Galloways and Phinesses.

  16. ...and that's at least somewhat understandable with Indy being a smaller market than say, New York or LA. As of this (admittedly old) 2012 article, the Pacers were running about a $10 million dollar annual loss and were the second least profitable franchise in the NBA. https://www.forbes.com/sites/chrissmith/2012/01/25/the-most-and-least-profitable-nba-teams/#48d316902773

  18. Not really. Kansas is the hated rival of Mizzou. Similar to the Ohio State and Michigan rivalry. My daughter is at Mizzou and that is the only rivalry she participates in.

  21. It would have been for financial reasons and not basketball reasons. The Simons will not let them go into the luxury tax so that is why they probably nixed the Conley deal.

  22. Some notes from a podcast with Indy Star writer J Michael(Covers the pacers): The front office were presented a deal from Memphis for Aaron Holiday and a 1st rd pick for Mike Conley, Herb Simon and front office denied the trade Front office had a deal in place for Otto Porter Jr, Herb Simon denied the trade Memphis wanted Myles Turner in return for their 4th pick in the 1st rd, we countered with Sabonis and Memphis said no Offered Sabonis for the 10th pick but was rejected. So the front office likes Holiday but viewed Conley as a better win now chance. Glad this was denied. If we would have acquired Porter(due $100 mil YIKES) I would have thrown up! Glad we didn't give up Turner for the #4 pick. To me the Pacers view Turner as more valuable, especially given they never offered Turner for the 10th pick whereas they did for Saboins. So basically we got Brogdon(5 years younger and $10 mil cheaper than Conley) and Warren(just as effective as Otto Porter at much less money if not a touch better). By acquiring Brogdon, this pushed Lambs interest in Indy(said he wanted to play with someone like Brogdon). Chad Buchannan was on with JMV yesterday and the major take away I took was they are viewing this upcoming season as three smaller seasons and putting an emphasis that when Victor returns, Sabonis and Myles will work as a pair even better than what it will to start the season. First stretch with current team without Victor and seeing how the pairing of Myles and Sabonis does Acclimating Victor back into the rotation with the team Victor is at/near full strength for the stretch run to end the year.

  24. Several years ago, had a guy attempt to break in, while we all were in the house. Took screen off an open window, and tried climbing in, while I was in the room. I yelled at him, and he took off running. Must have been on drugs. Anyway, after the police got done hunting for him, never caught him. I asked. What is the best security system ? Answer : "Get a German Shepard" "The bigger, the better". So we did. And have one today as well. That Simplisafe that NTL recommended above. Looks like a good system per the ads I have seen on tv.

  25. So the guy in Iowa that put out a plea that he was short on beer money, received about $2 grand in donations, and decided he would give that to charity. From that announcement, donations have risen to over $36 thousand. As a means of recognizing this guy's charitable inclinations, Anheuser Busch has announced that they are providing him with a year's worth of free Busch Light. Good for the guy, and good for whatever charity he's donating to. However, I wouldn't necessarily view this as a win for him. I wouldn't give that crap to my worst enemy.

  27. If he's not healthy, he shouldn't play However, imo, if he can play, I would like to see Michael out there for a bit just to get the rust off. The competition amps up starting next week, and I'd prefer him not to be starting vs. MSU coming off having sat for 3 weeks.

  29. Met Oscar Robinson there in 2000 when I went to watch my old HS play in the HOF Classic. I remember watching Zach Randolph play and he was a beast. Remember then later watching Jefferies and him at state finals and it was clear who Mr. Basketball was...just the politics of it lost him too many votes. Guess people were worried about another Kojak Fuller type incident because of Zach’s surroundings. I think with Fullers arrest in 1999 so recent it could have swayed people to go with the squeaky clean Jefferies but maybe others have an opinion.

  31. Speaking of Olympic level athletes. There was a Olympic skier that was ruled ineligible by the ncaa back in the 2000’s because he made money off of his likeness. He was supposed to be the kicker or something for Colorado’s football team. Total crap. Making money off something not related to football and still couldn’t play. NCAA sucks.

I talked to the coach I know, he hadn't heard year ending injury, but wouldnt go into the injury either.
