  1. Not sure how all the Coronavirus cancellations will alter things but I expect this Domino to fall soon and don't be surprised if another shortly there after. Ones that we should all enjoy unless you are 1 of the 2 resident Toiletmakers

  5. HSN members: Are you craving a little basketball fix? Do you find yourself watching re-runs of old games or watching marble racing with the same vigor you cheer on our Hoosiers? We understand. We feel the same way. Thankfully, a member stepped up with a wonderful idea to help us pass the time. We can thank cybergates, our new resident HSN Tournament Commissioner, for creating our own version of March Madness: That's right - our Hoosiers are facing off against our Hoosiers. We can't lose! Every day, cybergates will post the entire slate of all of the day's "games" on a single thread with multiple poll questions. Members are encouraged to discuss, debate, and vote the various matchups! In the interest of fairness, teams were seeded sequentially by year. In all honesty, random seeding isn't too different than what the Selection Committee does some years, so we felt it was appropriate. Keep your eyes peeled for posts beginning at 12pm EST tomorrow and prepare to defend your favorite IUBB team all the way to the Final Four! HF + the team

  6. Good news. My son came home with one package of toilet paper today, from our local grocery store. We were not out. But wanted to add to what we have, for fear of running out. He was told he could purchase two packages. But opted not to...in order to leave some for others.

  7. I suppose it makes the most sense...Foles has been a backup before, as where Dalton and Cam really haven't... This way the Bears can put on a dog and pony show saying it's "competition" for Mitch's job, while still letting him think they have some confidence in him... CYA at its finest...

  13. That's a great question. Players that were not allowed to play their freshman year, are exempt. Not their fault the rules disallowed them from a full four years. Then there are others, whom I will have to think long and hard on. Like Cody, and Eric. Guess, it will come down to how much they contributed to our program before leaving early. Then.... there is Noah Vonleh, who quit early on us, who for sure will never get a vote from me. On the flip side. Some, like Dean Garrett who did not start out as a Hoosier, but was a great contributor. As well as Keith Smart, who actually won a NC for us get votes from me.

  18. Don't mind the Foles move one bit. He's far more proven. Worked with Nagy before and knows the system today better than Mitch does after 2 years. Contract is restructured so the only guarantees the Bears are on the hook for is $20M or so.....plus he's 14-3 when his defense holds opponents to 18 points or less. I'll take this move all day long and the sooner we can move on from Mitch the better.

  19. Good question. The question posed in the poll will just be "Who wins?". It will be up to each HSN member to decide how they want to vote and the parameters surrounding the "game". One might try to "simulate" the game in their mind (or online at places like https://www.whatifsports.com/ncaab/default.asp#top). Another might pick based on like/dislike of players and/or the coach. I'm hoping people will discuss the teams in question (debate/plead their case) and link to games/videos before voting. My ultimate answer to your question is "It is up to you" and is specific to each person voting.

  24. When IU was recruiting both Kaufman and Furst they didn't want to play together. Now that Furst has committed to Purdue it is apparently no longer an issue. However, since Lander committed to IU, he is now the one Kaufman doesn't want to play with. Strange, eh? 🙄 I'd take these comments about one player not wanting to play with another with a giant grain of salt unless it comes directly from the player or someone who would definitely know (immediate family, coach, etc). These rumors likely come from disgruntled IU fans or Purdue fans.

  27. I listened to it and it was brutal to hear how they were having to just let people die. I don't envy small business owners right now, no matter where you are. Best of luck to you in the coming months.

  28. Hard to hear these stories. My wife said that yesterday's The Daily podcast was heartbreaking. They interviewed an Italian doctor and he was explaining how they choose who received treatment and who doesn't. They always choose the younger and healthy. He said it's incredibly sad because the older people they can't treat are forced to stay and families obviously can't visit them - and these people are dying alone. I don't know if I can bring myself to listen to it this morning. Especially because I woke up extra anxious. I'm a small business owner and had the incredible urge to clean out my receivables as best as I can because I don't know if anybody in payables departments will be around in 2 weeks. Hopefully an over-reaction, but just another thing to be concerned with.

  29. We have 923 cases in NYC as of earlier this morning. They had predicted 1,000 by end of week, but we'll top that by the end of the day. Ugh, there are going to be so many of these types of stories. My Dad was saing he only comes into close contact with 6-8 people each day on his job. He was silent when I asked him how many people those 6-8 people came into close contact with each day. And then how many people those people came into contact with. And so on...

  33. And watch what happens when Antonio Brown signs with Bucs. Brady and he are much closer than people talk about. Imagine Evans, Godwin, Brown?? Kudos to Tampa on this move. None of the small market can't compete stuff or whatever the reasons people use with superstars....they stepped up and made the move and will be in prime position to make playoffs. That's all you can ask.

  34. I said in an earlier thread that Aminu reminded me a lot of a better Andres Feliz... Dosunmu and Cockburn may have gotten all the ink for the Whinin Illini, but Feliz is so tough...when he wants to get to the basket, he gets there, and he can finish...very underrated in my book...if he had an outside shot, he'd be really dangerous...

  36. Brady to Bucs looks like it's going to happen... Reading up on it, Tampa has better weapons (Evans, Godwin, Brate, Howard) decent interior line, but not very good at the tackle position...and that's where the monster pass rushers are...

  40. Yep. Would not be surprised to see Florida cases spike as the local population is exposed to those travelling. The young travelers will have little or very mild symptoms, while the older, local population pays the price.

  41. Been out on the Monon all day so just catching up. Rivers to Colts is great deal. Low risk High reward. 1 year deal and if it hits cool...if not it doesn't set the franchise back 3-4 years. Draft a qb if one available at 34 you like. Think about this. With 3 picks in 2018/19/20 draft...Ballard has turned those 3 picks into Nelson, Braden Smith, Turay, Wilkins, Rock Ya-Sin, Buckner, and Redskins #34. I trust Ballard. If anyone deserves an I trust you it's Colts fans with Ballard. Regarding Bears. Once again Defense will be the theme. Just hope we can get one of these other two guys once the dust settles because I refuse to go into next season with Mitch.

  42. Not sure Kaufman was my guess as well but it seems that we are gaining some real traction with a certain 5* that Mile alluded too in another thread. I want to believe what I am hearing but skeptical only because of the not being able to be on campus and such things still up in the air in regards to sports in general.

  43. The messaging has been really bad especially why the need to social distance. Case and point, when people keep saying it will be no worse than the seasonal flu. This thinking is missing the point and not necessarily the reason why medical experts are calling for self-isolation. From what I understand, the danger is not so much that it infects people, it's how quickly it spreads through and infects the population. The flu is not as big of a threat to older people or the medically compromised, but most importantly it doesn't get everybody sick all at one time. The 300,000 or so of flu cases are for the most part spread out over 8-9 months. The question you need to ask yourself, is what would happen if 250k of those 300k flu cases hit in a span 2-3 weeks? Would our healthcare system be prepared for it? This is the coronavirus threat - the speed that it spreads. Right now people are able to receive treatment and be put on ventilators, which is keeping the death toll low. What happens when they can't receive treatment? The closest regional hospital to me has 35 ICU beds. What happens if these are all filled when the infections spike 2-3 weeks from now? Where does that 36th and 37th person go? A big portion of the population will ultimately get coronavirus. The effort being made now is not necessarily for people to avoid getting infected completely - it's so that we all don't get infected at one time.

  44. Just got the cancellation call this morning. I am not surprised since my wife works at the hospital and they are really tightening the screws. On a positive note I was feeling tremendous pressure to finish the total bathroom renovation. I can now slow the pace down and maybe sleep in. I have attached a couple pics and I apologize for somewhat hijacking the thread.

  45. I have two people I've worked very closely with over the last 20 years who planned on retiring a little earlier this year. Both decided to stay a little longer so they would have something to do. I'm not going to be bold enough to ask if they moved all of their money out of high risk portfolios or not. But, I sure hope they did. And, then, maybe even worse, I have a couple of other long time co-workers who were given a 45 day notice in February that their job was being eliminated. I'm not sure how that process works either, so I don't know if they would have been able to move funds out of their 401K immediately upon receiving notice, or whether the funds were stuck there until their 45 days were up.

  46. My wife and I each own our own business. My revenues are tied to the market so they will be down but minimally. My wife is a dentist. She will have some cash flow issues. Being closed (and/or working at a much reduced capacity) along with a likely slowing of insurance claims being paid to her means a decrease in revenue while fixed expenses and employees still need to be paid. Will be interesting to see what kind of help the very small business gets from the government. Truly heartbreaking to hear the stories from Italy. Basically having Drs and Hospitals acting as death panels determining who gets treated and who doesn't. Blessed to live in the USA and not having to worry about that for our parents/ citizens.

Very active in band, music scene, bars, dart leagues,etc....just a normal person who undoubtedly came into contact with 100's of people before officially being diagnosed. Feel bad that she had to say goodbye to her husband via ipad. These are the potential exponential growth stories we should be concerned about. https://www.theindychannel.com/news/coronavirus/first-person-to-die-from-covid-19-in-indiana-was-marion-county-woman
