  1. I just finish a complete bathroom remodel. The only thing that is original is a couple of walls of drywall. New lights, floor, ceiling, faucets, door and all trim, bath fan, complete tiled shower, vanity, floating shelving and towel and paper holder, robe hook and towel ring. We also put in two pantries and bench seating in the kitchen which allowed us to tear out a built in pantry that extended into the bathroom . Doing this allowed us to increase our vanity size from 42" to 60". It was much tougher than I thought and my patience was totally shot. Hopefully no more waking up in the middle of the night and thinking about what I have to do and how to do it. This is my last major project. I am too old (66) and Susan and I have done everything to this house. New windows, doors, cabinets, doors, trim, lights siding, garage door, floors and carpet. All this was done is less than 3 years Mission Accomplished!

  2. Looks like the virus may be having an effect? Since I'm supposed to stay home, I did some work yesterday in my yard. I am re-doing my neglected front yard landscaping. Started on the lawn equipment getting the mower and string trimmer ready. I use a lawn service to treat my yard and with all of the rain we've had so far, my grass is looking like it needs a good mowing. Then I dug up 4 bushes, 1 I had to use an axe to chop through the roots! Man am I feeling it today! Still have some smaller bushes to get and I'm hoping the roots will be shallower.

  3. I built my house 3 years ago and like many, got it to 90% before the attention span ran out. I've come back around to finish the master bath recently. I was working in the floor pan for the stand up shower. While sipping some Bourbon as the mud cured, my baby Dachshund decided to try her hand at DIY. She's a helper like that.

  4. My wife loves to landscape. She has done the front yard, both sides yards and has a great start on the back yard. We have almost 400 small rocks in her landscaping plan and countless yards of mulch. Nothing makes my day more than for her to be out doing the landscaping while I am watching her in the air conditioned house. The good news for me is that she doesn't mind. Susan is one tough, hard working, strong willed woman. The only thing she wants me to do when it comes to landscaping is pick up truck loads of mulch and haul her landscaping boulders/rocks. She is 24 years younger than me and I have no idea what the heck she sees in me.

  5. The lady and I had 4 projects lined up for 2020. 1) Redo the wooden seats in my 12' v-bottom boat. 2) Put a new roof on the front porch. 3) Remodel the upstairs. 4) Build a small pole barn. I don't think we are going to get #4 started due to money concerns. #3 is underway. Material for #1 is here. Waiting for the weather to break for #2.

  6. Once I got the house to 90% complete, I needed a change of pace and started a deck with a built in Trampoline for the Grand kids. I currently have this at 98% complete and started a privacy fence that looks like an old west town. I am great at starting projects.

  11. I don't like to pay people to fix things I can do myself. Alot of projects are first time experiences. Have a front load washing machine with worn out bearings. Decided to replace them because parts cost $100 versus a new machine. Holy crap was it a job and a half. Took me 6 hours. Basically had to disassemble and reassemble the whole machine. But was ultimately successful. Because it is who I am I will probably do it again. Just needed to vent. PS. Had some leftover screws. But that always happens.

  12. That is awesome. I know the stress, thinking through how to do something. It's very rewarding in the end but very stressful. Here's my little shiplap wall. Just got the lights and mirror back on the wall and cleaned up.

  13. Such great timing. My current wife and I just finished a conversation about me having a wife that was 24 years younger than I am.

  14. Some guys are just more comfortable in that role than being a starter...and they can win you some games... Reich, Strock, Morrell, and, at the end if his career at least, Blanda come to mind...

  15. Re: the West Virginia outlier. Just horrible incompetence all around. https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/21/us/west-virginia-coronavirus-patient-one-test/index.html I’m hoping not, but I fear this thing is an iceberg. The cases we know about are above the water; all the cases who can’t get tested, don’t decide to get tested or are showing no symptoms are below the water. Stay home folks.

  18. I've had really good luck with beefsteak. Versatile and delicious. When the weather gets hot water in early morning, or around sunset. And protect tomatoes against blight and watch out for bacterial wilt. When planting a tomato plant, make sure to bury it deep. First 1-2 stems under dirt. As for the pot, I have seen people do well with 5 gallon home depot buckets.

  20. figured we might at well bring this back to life. There may be another one but I searched projects and found this. I'm burning my tax return quickly. Already had $2000 of painting done a few weeks ago. I built my own house a few years ago and never finished things up. Such as caulking and painting all the trim. My wife painted all the window trim before we moved in. Then with last years tax return we had the doors and door casings done. The base boards got a professional touch as well as some main area walls and the stairwells. I got a cheap headboard at At Home store to make the master look a little more masterful. We have been searching everywhere for a new comforter before stores starting closing. Not a ton of luck. Put a quick wall of shiplap up in a bathroom as a backsplash. The last few days I have been building floating shelves in my built ins. Should wrap up tomorrow then just going to put satin poly on. I'll get some pics up in the next few days. Monday my LP smartside trim is being delivered. I'm redoing some of my exterior trim that I unsuccessfully tried to metal break and wrap. It looks like crap and I want top dollar when I go to sell this thing, which may happen very very soon, corona pending. So what's your story? I'm trying to remember who is doing the bathroom job?

  21. I like Brandywine's for the best flavor, but they're pretty low yield, and temperamental. In a bad year, they can produce almost no fruit, but in a good year you can get more than you can eat. There are other kinds that start early and produce for quite a while. One thing I found when I started planting from seed is that there are seemingly hundreds of options for everything. When you go to a greenhouse, they might have 10-20 different tomatoes, but that is only a fraction of what is actually out there. Same thing for about anything you can grow. You mentioned radishes earlier, and this site has 23 different options for radishes, and 136 for tomatoes. It can be overwhelming, but I think picking out and trying different things is part of the fun.

  22. I love the Weber Chicago Steak seasoning. Use it on Burgers and Steak. Haven't been able to find the bigger size bottle in stores for awhile. May have to look online and stock up for the summer. Used to live in Naperville so been to many a Ribfest. Highly recommend anyone who can try and get there to check it out.

  24. Avid gardener here. Let me start out by saying I am looking forward to my new toy...a 4-cycle Mantis tiller. And I still got my 2-cycle one as well. His and hers tillers. I pretty much just grow the usual. Tomatoes, green peppers, jalapenos, green beans, peas, onions, and cucumbers. Early I will put out radishes and kohl-rabi(sp?). Sweet corn grows great here but I can't keep the 'coons out of it.

  26. Yeah, but that costs money...lol. Half the reason I do all this stuff myself is because I'm a cheap bastard.

  27. Absolutely staggering and sobering numbers being reported out of New Your today. Not just talking about deaths either. Over 12,000 new positive tests being reported, bringing the total number in the state to over 22,000. If New York were it's own country, they would have the 5th mot cases in the world. More than Iran has reported, and we've all heard the horror stories about what is going on there.

  28. 8,115 confirmed cases and 60 deaths just in NYC as of this morning. We have almost 2,500 cases here in Brooklyn. Was following a Twitter thread of a friend of a friend, who is a young-ish, healthy male. Late 30s, ran two marathons, non-smoker. He was tweeting from his hospital bed daily saying stuff like, "Guys, this is no joke. Totally kicking my ass." Then nothing for a couple of days. Yesterday, someone posted that his family said he had been intubated and put on a ventilator. Was really sobering.
