  2. HTD. Quarantine sucks, but it's great to hear from you. Hang in there. Things are looking up for our Hoosiers. And, it's still fun to hate on the Smellermakers.

  3. And that's it, isnt it? Not to sound macabre or insensitive, but we (our government) has to make decisions that either give the appearance of "letting the chips fall where they may" by keeping society running the way it always does, and sacrificing lives in the process, OR taking away freedoms while at the same time grossly affecting the financial well being and quality of life for a large number of people. I guess where most people stand is where they have the most skin in the game. I look @Billingsley99 and I would be petrified if I was in his shoes, having a son with a compromised immune system. He's also looking at a financial impact. But speaking as a father myself, the financial part would be insignificant if I were in his shoes, and I'm sure it is to him and his family...I'd want society locked up tighter than the nuts on a new bridge. On the other hand, there are people who are going to come out if this absolutely ruined financially...I feel for them as well...it really sucks to see a lifetime of work get crushed in this vise. So, I'm ok with shelling out the trillions it's going to take to strike that balance. To me, it's not political at all. Or it shouldn't be. We're Americans. We step up to the plate with courage and conviction. Let's just not worry about "blame" right now...

  4. At this point, I'm finding it hard not to think selfishly. Both my wife and I have jobs where we can work from home. The kids are not at school, so no danger in them picking it up there. My main concern is my 78 year old mother who has a lot of those 'underlying conditions', but by the grace of God, she is locked down in her house and I feel good about that. So, yes, while my 401K has taken a beating, the lockdown itself is working for me. It's selfish, I know, but I'm content with waiting until the numbers start trending the other direction before things start to get back to normal.

  5. I heard today one reason Trump was country reopened by April 11 (except for heavily hit areas) is the concern over drinking and drug abuse. Problems that will only get worse with more people home, unemployed, etc. In addition, the longer we are closed, the more businesses that will not reopen. Do we let tens of thousands fall victim to substance abuse and suicide or maybe a smaller # to the Coronavirus? The hope is with another week or 2 to ramp up supplies, testing, etc, we can get back to normal.

  6. You have to figure that those airports are losing money right now, too... A lot of this 2 trillion in spending is a crutch to get past this pandemic and keep the economy rolling for both the individuals and businesses... Small GA airports are a business, and an important one at that... While I do agree hiding "pork" in important legislation is BS, we simply don't have enough informed voters in this country to hold senators and congressmens feet to the fire to change that way of doing business.

  7. That's not accurate... “The funding is to support the House’s capability to telework, including for the purchase of equipment and improvements to the network,” Evan Hollander told us in an email. “It will also provide for reimbursement costs for the staff of the House Child Care Center and covers the costs of the House food service contracts. In addition, it will support the Sergeant-At-Arms on continuity of operations matters.” He added: “Moreover, Member salaries are funded through the Treasury pursuant to the Constitution and are not funded through appropriations.” Now it can be argued that congress, as well as other government workers, receive too many entitlements (see above) but to say it's a "pay raise" is inaccurate.

  8. Hey Congress. Millions of dollars for the Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts ? Where's the money for the Denver Center of the performing arts ? Denver Center for the Performing Arts This is what you call a relief act ? And what has this relief got to do with helping the American citizens all over this great country of ours, who are hurting right now ?

  9. @Lostin76 I'm in no way saying it isn't serious, where you are. But is it necessary to lock down my county with 0 confirmed cases at the moment, the same way as New York? Edit: keep safe, really worry about what's going on there.

  10. Oh. I remember a former IU FB player and member of our board. Who dissed Vic. When he first arrived at IU. And was dunking late at night at a Frat house. Saying that was all he had. Instead... Vic had the heart of a Hoosier, and went to work from there.

  11. We are staring down the potential of 30% unemployment. How many suicides, new drug addicts, addicts dying of od's or withdrawal because they cant afford the drug or treatment. The increase in crime rates that would likely result putting innocent people at risk. I know it cant be quantified but It would alot. And for me this is also a constitutional issue. How long will we go letting our rights be violated. For example, my wife cant work because if she gets reported on her massage license would be permanently revoked. But her job is low risk and she has 15-20 clients a week and complete control of her workspace. If 2 consenting adults, her and a client, assume the risk and book an appointment, why is that a problem when you still have millions of people interacting in close proximity at grocery stores everyday? Ive noticed people are not social distancing and asked to do. By all means have precautions in place, educate, and consider putting the draconian measures in places that are having the problems.

  13. Dead period does not mean that all contact is prohibited. Two weeks ago, the NCAA declared a mandatory recruiting dead period in response to the coronavirus shutdown of college sports, barring official and unofficial visits, contacts and evaluations while still permitting phone calls and text messages. But if you think that's stopped everyone, Vice President of Enforcement Jon Duncan has this update.

  14. Thank you for the reply. One homicide in 7 days. Is one too much. However, I am relieved that homicides are down compared to the past. Regardless of the reason why. My father owned a store in Miller, Indiana. North of Gary. Miller Beach. Indiana Scroll down, and you will see a picture of the street that my father's store was on. And he would take me with him all the time to a place to restore certain supplies. It was in South Chicago. Never, ever felt threatened.

  16. So, does anyone know how many people die on Earth daily? Around 57 million annually, 156,000 daily. Does anyone know how many people die in new york city daily? 152 on avg. 9.1 per hour. Does anyone know how many people in the United States of lower respiratory disease annually? Around 160000 on avg. How many people world wide have died from corona world wide that we know of? 23335. 1246 in the us as of right now on cdc. Not saying don't take precautions so we don't overwhelm the intensive cares. Do all the necessary precautions. In my small brain's opinion, this is reason to be extremely hopeful.

  18. I’ve got my 23 year old nephew living with me right now. He just took a job in Denver and is staying with me until he finds a place of his own. He is working from home and never seems to leave the basement. We have a history of slight depression in our family, so I’m going out of my way to get him to get out and ride (he is a cyclist who won the Little 5 his senior year) and walk the dogs with me just to get him out of the house. Neither of my kids are isolated like he is, they don’t live with us but are not alone. I completely understand the depression/substance abuse issue.

  19. If a scientist needs to measure billions or even trillions of molecule, they might just make a logarithmic scale with each number (i.e. from 0 to 1) increase representing an increase by a factor of 10. That would mean that going from 0 to 1 means increasing 10 units, and going from 0 to 2 means increasing 100 units, because 10^2 = 100. Numbers on a logarithmic scale are representative of a factor increase in real units. Stolen from Google...I had a general idea but this from study.com said it much better.

  20. I'm not sure how you can say that with the slightest degree of confidence; especially writing after the preceding sentence: "We don't even have a hospital". I've heard many interviews where epidemiologists are extremely worried about this spreading inward to the rural areas because they don't have the people, equipment and facilities to handle an outbreak. My business is suffering greatly too and I have the deepest sympathy for you and your wife. But take this scenario: your wife gets the virus at the grocery store and she spreads it to a few of her clients, they spread it to their families, their families spread it to others, etc. I know I don't need to educate you in exponential growth, but it just takes one person to unknowingly spread it. It doesn't matter if they are in a rural area or a city; the virus doesn't discriminate. And in a county with very few or no hospitals, that is extremely dangerous. I also understand your argument above about our constitutional rights and if people weren't contagious for long periods of time before exhibiting symptoms I'd 100% be on board with this line of thinking. But given the lack of testing kits available and the fact that people spread it on accident, I believe these precautions are necessary. At least until people can clear themselves somehow to go out in public, which I believe needs to happen sooner rather than later. The economy can't survive this. Overall, not saying you are right. Not saying you are wrong. This is a catch 22, no doubt. However, saying "rural areas will be fine" at this point given how quickly this has spread, IMO, is a huge underestimation.

  21. Our golf course here in Iowa is supposed to open Sunday with a few temporary rules. The flag must remain in the cup, the cups have been elevated, no rakes, no ball washers, no cash, credit card only paying though the window. No course coolers and no gathering on the deck.

  24. Why isn't this spike happening in LA, Chicago, Houston or any other major metropolitan area with international airports and harbors with large immigrant populations is my question. Also, it really doesn't matter which way this goes, these draconian policies will set precedent for when this happens again, and it will. It will be oh look numbers under projections so policy success or predictions were right but it could have been worse so policy successful. I live in Martin county. We dont even have a hospital so really have no idea. The 4 surrounding counties have a total of 4 cases. Rural areas will be fine.

  25. Once it's like it is in New York it's well beyond too late. They are on the brink of having their medical facilities and personnel overwhelmed. I have a feeling this is going to start spiking in Indiana (and many other places) in the next two weeks. If it doesn't spike like new york, that's a concrete sign that the measures being taken are having a positive effect. How many people have been tested in your county?

  27. Have posted this before but will again here. Someone I know well who watched / scouted kids out East including Vic when he was at DeMatha, and who told me then that Vic (then averaging a double-double as an off-ball guard) was going to be an amazing college player and was grossly under-estimated by other scouts, has watched Geronimo in person and told me when he did - when we were recruiting him — that he is better than Vic at the same age. Vic was also “raw” in some respects, shooting, offensive court awareness, to an extent his handle, but obviously was extremely gifted with great upside coming in. On my friend’s scouting it sounds like Geronimo is similar in a number of ways. And a better outside shooter - clearly - coming in. Vic would not have gotten the floor time he did on this team. That benefitted his development. Geronimo may well take more time, but I wouldn’t underestimate his potential, he’s not just raw, he’s extremely talented

  28. FYI. THe Hoosier hysterics guys interviewed the Geronimo family last week. Worth the listen.
