  1. I think everyone is taking it seriously, but between the disinformation (which is despicable by the way), the misinformation, and the idiotic "panic" that people are exhibiting through hoarding and the like, it's made this whole thing into a circus... Now is not the time to panic...it's time to act. Do what you can do to keep your family and yourself safe (and I'm confident you're already doing that). Try to be a good neighbor and friend. I understand in some of the things I've personally done (give blood) there's a risk, but life is filled with risks. I'll take a calculated risk for what I think is the greater good. I pray for your little boy and your family every day. I'm fortunate in the fact that beyond limiting our going out, this hasn't and probably won't affect my wife and me much, but I'm not blind to the fact that this is a total catastrophe for a lot of folks... And I pray for them, too...

  2. Only going out once a week for necessity items. Walmart had 1 case limit on water. For family of 5 we go through 1 a day. Especially with everyone home all the time. 2 people in line next to me each bought 1 of my cases and gave them to me. Did not let me pay. Ayden wanted taco bell brought home so to pay it forward I bought the car behind me. Tough times can bring out the best in people.

  3. Could have had dinner last night, by not going out, with all we have stocked up in our freezer, etc. However, decided to order take out from one of our favorite local restaurants instead. Called ahead. Left a huge tip. But..... here is the message that was attached to our take out bag : We want to thank you for supporting our business and our family ! Your order helps us to keep our employees PAID during this extended time away from work. From our entire family. Stay safe, Stay healthy and we will see you back for full service as SOON as possible !

  4. Cuban has been unreal the past few days. On tv a ton. Depth and breath of knowledge of what is going on. Has pledged to pay ALL of his employees in all the companies he owns. Said he knows he will be taking a huge hit for it. But said he has been blessed, and feels the need to give back.

  6. My latest toilet paper story. it doesn’t get better than this! My wife says she’s going to our local grocery store to get some TP because she heard through the grapevine they’re getting a shipment. She goes and comes back laughing. I say so what’s up. She says well they have a 1 per customer rule. I’m like, yeah, that’s what they’ve been doing, when they have any. She says no, a 1 per customer rule. Then she holds up 1, individually wrapped, roll of toilet paper. 1 roll. Lmfao

  7. I like that! A lot of the places around here are posting signs when they close that say "We love you. We miss you. See you on the other side."

  8. Our favorite neighborhood restaurant (Meme's Diner) has been selling off all their bottles of wine at cost. My wife and I were hesitant at first, b/c it felt exploitative to purchase, but then we quickly realized they are selling off their inventory out of necessity to keep paying their skeleton crew of employees. We just picked up another big order of three bags of coffee beans, some more wine, orange juice, and an order of their famous stuffed french toast. You have to order online and then when you go there, they have a dry erase board with order numbers on it. You hold up your phone through the window and then they go get your order and leave it on a table just inside the closed door for you. It's a good system for social distancing, but it's heartbreaking knowing they are having to sell off their inventory. We know they most likely won't be back. And most others are already closed. I'm almost sick to my stomach checking the numbers each day. Over 6,000 new cases in NY State since yesterday and now over 52,000 total cases - 29,000 of those here in NYC and over 8,000 of them here in Brooklyn. Bus drivers are starting to test positive as are MTA workers. It won't be long before the cases/deaths start piling up for front line workers - and not just health workers - grocery store checkout clerks, bodega clerks, delivery people, etc. My boss is working on one of our 7 COVID-19 wards in our hospital and my other MD faculty are being called in to staff wards in the coming weeks. It feels like all around us illness and death is everywhere, and yet my wife and I are incredibly lucky so far. I've got a huge order of annuals and veggies arriving soon, so I can do some gardening on our fourth floor terrace. I've got an unlimited supply of records to listen to and books to read, and Netflix just released another season of Ozark. Which is great, b/c we just finished The Tiger King and need something else to watch. We are both being very careful and washing our hands like maniacs. My wife has a history of lung collapses - three of them - so I am of course most worried about her catching this. We are both healthy though, especially her, as she's a runner/marathoner. It just feels so weird to be relatively untouched as the numbers keep piling up. I almost feel guilty.

  10. Yep. My wife is a therapist and she is the most stressed than I have seen her in the 10 years we have been married. She was in tears the other night.

  12. I'm sure this is of little comfort, but hopefully it takes some of the worry away. According to map linked below, the 61 cases and 2 deaths appear to be more of a regional total than just Decatur county. Decatur, Ripley, and Franklin counties together are where the 61 cases come from. But, to your point, definitely a regional hotspot. The numbers compared to the population density of the area are high. https://www.wthr.com/article/see-where-confirmed-indiana-coronavirus-cases-are-interactive-map

  13. Stepped outside of the house today, to do something I normally take for granted. Took in the view of the Rocky Mountains. Overnight snow. And the mountains were majestic. Found this short video from a hotel room, to give you all an idea of what I normally take for granted. View from hotel - Rocky Mountains - Denver CO And then it dawned on me. Instead of texting us. Friends, and neighbors are actually calling and talking to us over the phone.

  14. Just an FYI for any small business owners or self employed or part of the gig economy. Mark Cuban on twitter has been a phenomenal resource of information on how to apply or use programs. Should be up and running by Wednesday it sounds like but contact your bank for payroll protection loan program. Also in case people haven't done already. Call mortgage, student loans,etc.....and ask about forbearance programs. I'm hearing anywhere between 90 and 180 days of suspended payments are given immediately. Might take you 20-30 minutes of hold time on phone but well worth it.

  21. I for one am glad the liquor stores are still open. I appreciate that they are staying open. I just came across this piece to remind us all of the people who are working with the public during this scary time. It's just one block in NYC, but it serves as a reminder of how much risk the people on the other side of the cash register are taking to deal with the public. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/28/opinion/sunday/covid-workers-nyc.html?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=Homepage

  22. Made an essential trip to the liquor store today. 🍻 Seems like a large number of people are still out and about here, at least on my side of town. I've seen pictures posted on the Fort Wayne reddit showing downtown looking like a ghost town though. Experience varies by area, I suppose.

  23. Have been watching IN death rate too. It is high at 2.5%. Did not expect that. I also never thought that this is something I would see: "New York City EMS received 6,406 medical 911 calls yesterday. It was the highest volume ever recorded in the city, surpassing the record that had been set on Sept. 11, 2001." https://twitter.com/jameshohmann/status/1243353649570603008?s=20

  31. Trayce has so much going for him, excellent athlete, can get off the floor but also has good agility. He can jump one, two, three times, whatever it takes. He has tremendous hands like suction cups. Good hands for a big man is like accuracy for a QB. Gotta have it and he does. And he’s competitive with a good motor. My favorite part about Trayce is that rebound in traffic where you can’t even see in there and Trayce yanks it down as surely as can be. As everybody here says, If he can come out and hit 15 footers, and then stretch out to the 3, there’s no telling what he can do. In today’s NBA game, you gotta have that stretch ability. He’s so skilled there’s no reason why he couldn’t shoot well.

  32. My wife had her Chase account hacked this week. Chase fraud recognized it and froze the account. That's when the nightmare began. Bank closes early so we called the 1-800#. My wife worried all our accounts being drained. One call of an hour+, then transferred to be disconnected. Luckily? I had dialed a second # on a different phone. That call lasted 5 hours and 50 minutes before being disconnected. Next morning went into the branch and after 3 hours finally got set up with new accounts, debit cards, etc. Their call center in India was offline and they were shortstaffed. Their business continuity plan left a lot to be desired.

  33. It’s infuriating that these heroes in out country still can’t get the protective gear they need. Yesterday one of my friends who’s a nurse said that she came to the realization that when all is said and done she thinks a few of her colleagues will die.

  34. I still cannot believe people are not taking this seriously. Decatur county has a population of 82000 I think and have 61 cases and at least 2 deaths. Decatur county and the surrounding counties are a hotspot right now. Ayden has not left our property in almost 3 weeks. Doing all we can to protect him. The most important thing we can do is to pray for our world, our leaders and for this spread to slow and stop. A man I know well taught his older kids and his youngest daughter is in Aydens class, passed away 2 days ago. HSN PLEASE STAY SAFE. Wife has too long of a honey do list for me to check in.much. staying busy keeps my mind from going to dark places.

  36. I absolutely believe The Wire should be taught at high school or colleges across the country as a course. Teaching kids how things work early on (all levels of the show) can only benefit our cities and country later on. Can't tell you how many times when I read a press release or here about a crime that is being covered....or school problems (class size, safety, curriculum) I always go back to The Wire.

  39. Dead period does not mean that all contact is prohibited. Two weeks ago, the NCAA declared a mandatory recruiting dead period in response to the coronavirus shutdown of college sports, barring official and unofficial visits, contacts and evaluations while still permitting phone calls and text messages. But if you think that's stopped everyone, Vice President of Enforcement Jon Duncan has this update.

  42. So, does anyone know how many people die on Earth daily? Around 57 million annually, 156,000 daily. Does anyone know how many people die in new york city daily? 152 on avg. 9.1 per hour. Does anyone know how many people in the United States of lower respiratory disease annually? Around 160000 on avg. How many people world wide have died from corona world wide that we know of? 23335. 1246 in the us as of right now on cdc. Not saying don't take precautions so we don't overwhelm the intensive cares. Do all the necessary precautions. In my small brain's opinion, this is reason to be extremely hopeful.

  43. Italy first reported more than 100 deaths on a single day on March 8th. Today, 19 days later, they reported 919, which is their highest total yet. So, they still may not have peaked. The United States first reported more than 100 deaths on a single day on March 22nd, 19 days from the 22nd is Friday, April 10th. So, if the U.S. trends like Italy, we will still not have peaked before Easter weekend. Even South Korea, whose number of cases is going down, is still seeing daily deaths at or near their peak. I don't consider China's numbers to be reliable, so it's hard to use them in a comparison.

  44. And that's it, isnt it? Not to sound macabre or insensitive, but we (our government) has to make decisions that either give the appearance of "letting the chips fall where they may" by keeping society running the way it always does, and sacrificing lives in the process, OR taking away freedoms while at the same time grossly affecting the financial well being and quality of life for a large number of people. I guess where most people stand is where they have the most skin in the game. I look @Billingsley99 and I would be petrified if I was in his shoes, having a son with a compromised immune system. He's also looking at a financial impact. But speaking as a father myself, the financial part would be insignificant if I were in his shoes, and I'm sure it is to him and his family...I'd want society locked up tighter than the nuts on a new bridge. On the other hand, there are people who are going to come out if this absolutely ruined financially...I feel for them as well...it really sucks to see a lifetime of work get crushed in this vise. So, I'm ok with shelling out the trillions it's going to take to strike that balance. To me, it's not political at all. Or it shouldn't be. We're Americans. We step up to the plate with courage and conviction. Let's just not worry about "blame" right now...
