  1. Jumbalaya, gumbo, cajun/creole food is one of my favorites. Andouille is the x factor for gumbo but hard to get good stuff outside cajun country. Gumbo is all about the roux. Have to stir constantly for 30-45 minutes but once everything is in the pot just let it stew and wait. And if you add okra, I always do, wait until the last 10-15 minutes or it will disintegrate. When I started making gumbo I watched alot of Emeril Legassi. Spent a summer while in college working in South Louisiana, Acadia and loved it.

  2. Love me some jambalaya. I have 2 recipients that are completely different that are even better with really good andouille. Would like to venture into making some gumbo. I have yet to find a gumbo I didn’t like and haven’t even been to New Orleans! My favorite gumbo is at Heaven on Seven in Chicago.

  3. @IUFLA You can tell those butchers to send me all the andouille and boudin and they will have space for brats. Those onions look great! Love pickled onions.

  4. Just decided on a plan today. I’m doing a chuck roast, bbq pork chops, turkey sausage, collard greens, and corn on the cob.

  5. Saw that, and he’s the coach at Georgetown — we’re not out of the woods on this yet by any means, kind of surprising people are trying to think otherwise. I’m for a gradual phase back into more normal life but people should be wearing masks and practicing social distancing, amazes me how stupid people are generally. Going out in groups to dinner again etc no masks. Just stupid.

  6. I was doing yardwork all afternoon yesterday so just did some burgers and brats on grill. Today I am thinking grilled chicken and homemade potato salad. Hope everyone has good weekend!

  7. Well, after talking about it, we decided on bratwurst instead of brined pork chops (thanks @FritzIam4IU)... You can't find a butcher shop around here that sells them (don't have room with all the varieties of smoked sausages, chorizo, andouille, and boudin I guess) so Kirkland Brats will have to do... Did make up a batch of my pickled hot and sweet onions to dress them with...

  8. Can't disagree with you about Morton's. It's been years since I have been there. I posted what I did, to show how the pandemic is affecting businesses both big and small. Always wanted to try St. Elmo's. Not sure if I will ever be able to, now. Fortunately my two favorite Denver steakhouses don't look as if they are closing for good : Bastiens Restaurant | Home of the Sugar Steak TheSteakHouse10

  9. I see some potential flaws in this study. First off, there are 4 cell phones in my house. Me, the wife, and the two teenagers. Are we getting penalized for not social distancing because we are all in the same location. Meanwhile, an extended family of 15 living together somewhere in the world with only one cell phone in the group probably appears to be social distancing. Big potential flaw in this study in my opinion. Also, I walk the neighborhood for about an hour each night. Take my cell of course. Just because I'm walking by a neighbor's house does not mean I'm stopping in for a visit.

  10. Get results tomorrow or monday. Starting to feel a little better. Just wanted to err on the side of caution since testing was available. Better to know for sure.

  11. I like the roster construction. A lot of tweener players who can fill multiple roles. I’m glad we finally have 2 viable point guard options! losing Smith hurts frontcourt defense as well as perimeter defense. Like others have mentioned, Hunter and Franklin can step up. I also think Geronimo will flourish more than people think.

  12. Probably...don't know if you knew but they moved into a new building a few years back... I loved the old store...like something out of the 1880s... Bet @Reacher has been out to Reams too... He said he use to live in Sugar Grove right on 47 south of Elburn...

  14. Wow. Elburn. We've had to cross paths at some point in our lives and not know it. Used to play golf at Hughes Creek, stop by Ream's when finished and head up 47 to my friends house in Yorkville. Legendary food there.

  15. @FritzIam4IU post reminded me of something I'd been meaning to post for a while... Those of you in the Chicagoland area should try Ream's Meat Market out in Elburn, Illinois. Best brats and Polish sausage I've ever had. Very wide variety of sausages. Might be a drive, but when I lived out in that area, it was an annual trip out there for summer holidays. Always ran into people from the city (50 mile drive) in there...it's that good... And Randy Ream is in the Meat Smoking Hall of Fame (yes, really)...

  16. Memorial Day itself is brined grilled pork chops... Last night, it was grilled Atlantic Salmon and cold boiled pink jumbo shrimp...

  19. The way I look at it, it's probably a challenge to keep 11 scholarship players happy and I'm confident Archie agrees. I recall him saying it was likely he would ride with open scholarships.

  20. Maybe we are or arent being tracked...ok🤔 but some Norwegian company using cell phone location data has been tracking our movements to grade social distancing. Shout out to Martin county(my county) for grading a B-. I've been a willing participant. Indiana failing at social distancing Ps. Dont like the term social distancing. Physical distancing sounds better to me. Also got tested today, soon to be a coronavirus statistic. Been lethargic and have had a terrible headache and just feel weak but no fever. Took yesterday and today off. Work gave me some time off and asked I get tested. One last thing, the testing location I went to didnt go in deep and pound your brain like I was afraid of. Just tickled a bit.

  22. Oh I can't speak Russian to save my life now. Can maybe read a little bit of it. I remember telling my Russian language professor at IU that my goal was to read The Brothers Karamazov in Russian and he was like, "That will take you 12-14 years of studying Russian." Solzhenitsyn is another one who did such a good job of capturing this time period. His Cancer Ward is probably in my top five books of all time.

  23. Really, really bad decision from Cuomo, who also didn't do a good job handling the blame. But thankfully, he seems to have learned from this mistake and reversed the rule. The hotel thing has also been kind of a mess here in the city. We did house a lot of medical workers, but De Blasio hasn't done a very good job figuring out how to safely house patients and homeless in hotels. Haven't always agreed with Cuomo on many things, and this was a complete disaster of a decision. For the most part though, New Yorkers seem to agree that he's handling it well and projecting solid leadership. Certainly a lot more presidential and competent than our current WH occupant.
