  1. For anyone who thought Brad Stevens was ever a realistic option for IU or that he was ever coming back to college (replacing Coach K when he retires), Stevens just signed a multi-year extension with the Celtics and that was with at least a year or two left on his current deal. He’s going to be in Boston for a long time. https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/celtics/celtics-sign-head-coach-brad-stevens-contract-extension

  2. Bryant with a smooth 26 and 9 today and Romeo got the start for Celtics and had 6/4/4 line and I believe was only net plus guy while on the court for Celtics who started.

  5. Every media source is going to present data in a way that best serves the narrative they are trying to present. That includes The New York Times. That said, just because a source is not widely known does not make it a bad source. I can't help to think about the early days of this thread where the perception was that the data published by Johns Hopkins was the gold standard, while an unknown source like Worldometer could not be trusted. Turns out that Johns Hopkins was using Worldometer's data. That's a very good example of perception bias influencing the way we look at things. The reality is that two people on opposite ends of the spectrum can take the exact same data and manipulate it in a way that fits the message they want to promote. Let's take the link you provided from the Times as an example. It has graphed actual deaths against expected deaths for every state, as well as New York City on it's own. Someone that wants to isolate the terrifying possibilities of this virus needs to look no further than the graph for NYC. By contrast, someone that lives in places like Hawaii and West Virginia can look at their graph and wonder why they have to wear masks, can't go to school, and not have a football season.

  6. I think having a presence in Cinci and Columbus is a good thing. Those two cities certainly aren't Indy when it comes to hoops, but they aren't barren either.

  7. Reacher, all due respect, here are some links you've posted in the last few pages. primarydoctor.org alec.org justthenews.com covexit.com upi.com alachaucchronicle.com christianpost.com brietbart.com You can't possibly know the trustworthiness of all these random links you find and now you are going to practice sourcing skepticism? At least the NY TImes is big enough to be held up to scrutiny. Not blasting you for sharing info/data, but come on.....pot meet kettle?

  9. This is the study I keep seeing other news outlets like CBS and The HIll report on: https://wellbeingtrust.org/areas-of-focus/policy-and-advocacy/reports/projected-deaths-of-despair-during-covid-19/ This is modeling, so to be taken with a grain of salt as it ranges from 27k to 150k additional deaths of despair through 2029. Whether we did or didn't lock down, I still think the economic effects and fear would been devastating. And the longer it takes to get it under under control, the economic effects, fear and DoD's will continue. It's impossible to figure out, but the question also needs to be asked how many lives have been saved by the measures the country has taken vs. excessive deaths that are a direct result of such measures. I'm not minimizing excessive deaths, but if 10 lives are being saved for every 1 additional death of despair over the median, then we do have a pretty substantial net gain in life. Again, I just completely made up that ratio, but I think it's a reasonable question to ask. Just thinking out loud as there are no right answers. It's a shitty situation all around.

  17. I invited a few friends over to watch. I debated watching it alone because when I get together to watch the Super Bowl with this same crew we talk so much I’m not as focused on the game. In the end I think I’d be miserable sitting there alone focused on not being there.

  19. Thanks for that link. I honesty believe that the man above looks out for people like her. Don't ask me why. And I don't know why. As for me. I had every childhood disease, except for mumps before I was one year old. And can't remember being sick due to my age at the time. Don't take any medications to this day. And rarely, if ever get sick to this day. I feel blessed.

  23. And I think we are recruiting some other players at Archbishop Moeller High School - which I think is a good program (correct me if I am wrong). It would be nice to establish a solid pipeline to a quality regional school, even if it is 40 minutes outside the Indiana border 😄!

  24. I'm curious to know how the formula for setting the baseline number. To me, that's important. The Baby Boomer generation born between 1946 and 1964 is getting older. It's only natural that deaths will begin to rise as that happens. And, maybe it's already factored into the formula used to make these projections. But, it's important to note that the median age of the U.S. population went from 28.1 in 1970 to 35.3 in 2000, to 38.4 in 2019. That's significant.

  25. I could see that. I saw where CJ McCollum was playing with a fracture in his lower back, a L3 Vertebral injury. That has to be painful. He would be the X-Factor for the me if the Trailblazers were to upset the Lakers.

  26. From our experience we know that the number of COVID deaths are higher than reported. What we don't know is what you are referring to - the number of deaths that may be attributable to conditions due to COVID. I honestly don't know of any faculty locally that are looking at this, but I'm sure it's not an insignificant number. We do know that planned and even unplanned care dropped tremendously. This article is interesting b/c you can watch the excess deaths rise as COVID moves through the country - starting out really high in NE initially then dropping. And now the numbers of excess deaths are rising in the south.

  29. I knew Mantle had retired in spring training 1969 and the wait is 5 years. I watched the HBO special on Mick last week. I'll post the (YouTube) link in the baseball forum. A sad, tragic life when you add it all up. I was glad he got it together and showed a great deal of courage at the end. I also listened to Bob Costas' eulogy. A beautiful and fitting tribute. The distinction Costas makes between role model and hero is so poignant and fitting...

  30. And again Pacers vs Heat for the 1st rd. If the Ps want to win this battle, they will need to outhustle and be aggressive. If we started a lineup of Brogdon/A. Holiday/Oladipo/Warren/Turner I'd switch on any pick and roll like the Rockets do to keep the shooters in front of em and not allow them to get space around the 3pt line(Robinson and Herro can stroke the 3 ball and Butler isn't afraid to shoot it either). A. Holiday vs Nunn or Dragic Victor vs Robinson Brogdon vs Butler Warren vs Crowder Myles vs Adebayo Holiday can guard Nunn/Dragic/Robinson and can hold his own against Butler in the post even though he's a little guy. Brogdon and Victor could switch and guard Nunn/Dragic/Robinson/Butler.

  31. I'm a really big fan of JJ, too. But it's also worth keeping in mind it took him until age 30 to become the player you're now describing. What I've seen from Allen in the bubble (and I've watched a ton of basketball the past two weeks) is giving me some good early signs that he's figuring out the NBA, adapting his game and learning how to play his role. Those are the things JJ had to figure out, too, and if we are being honest he's much more valuable the way basketball is played now as opposed to how it was when he was drafted. If you get a chance, watch the Grizzlies tomorrow. I am seeing things from Allen that really impress me out of a guy that I really wasn't a fan of coming into the league. Edit: to be clear, there is zero debate that JJ is currently the better player. It's not close right now.
