  1. Obviously not a Cal fan. When Ayden was 1st diagnosed a guy I never met from KY that was a high school basketball coach sent out message to all coaches in the KY high school coaches association to pray for Ayden. Some how Cal found out and sent an autographed pic and basketball to Ayden and followed up with a phone call to talk with me. 2 years later there was a fund raiser for Aydens medical cost Cal donated a autographed ball and 4 tix lower level for a UK home game for the auction. I have lots of stories like that about so many coaches. Cal, Crean and Buzz Williams took time to call and talk with me and CTC and Buzz still reach out time.to.time.

  2. There...fixed that for you... Bob Knight might have "cut up" with Hammel or Chuck Marlowe, but the rest he mocked incessantly (Game Face?). You're right, though...I have as yet to hear Archie compare the press to prostitutes, or say everyone learned to write in 2nd grade but went on to better things. You seem to have an "in" to the program, attending practices and such. Maybe Archie has been "a jerk" to you personally? I don't know. If you're basing it on the press conferences we all see on YouTube, I, personally, don't think you have much of a leg to stand on. He seems very professional to the press in those. Judging from what I've read, most people think he's pretty congenial when he visits a high school to evaluate a player, and I believe one poster here even said as much after seeing it in first person. But this is the type of thing that really turns me off. The BS about lack of recruiting after landing the last 3 Indiana Mr Basketballs...The BS about lack of player development, even in the face of kids like Juwan Morgan, Race Thompson, and Armaan Franklin... And now come the attacks on his personality...What's the over/under for him pushing an old lady or kicking a dog? Archie Miller will ultimately succeed or fail based on his coaching success or failure...There's no need to manufacture things to pile on...

  3. I watched a lot of the 2nd half... I already had a huge amount of respect for Leonard Hamilton, but something the announcers mentioned increased it... Said Hamilton vets recruits more thoroughly than most, and if they have a handler or someone "representing them" he drops the recruitment immediately...no one is going to interfere in his program... Kudos, Coach Hamilton...

  5. You don't out play a ranking. That is not a thing. I'm sorry, but absolutely absurd to still believe that ranking next to a name on a recruiting site holds any sort of bearing when they get on a college campus. Armaan isn't out playing a damn thing, he is just that good and works THAT hard. https://247sports.com/player/matt-howard-63605/ https://247sports.com/Player/Gordon-Hayward-60420/high-school-105252/ https://247sports.com/Player/Shelvin-Mack-60424/high-school-105263/ https://247sports.com/player/luka-garza-84266/ https://247sports.com/Player/Ja-Morant-46035335/high-school-183728/ https://247sports.com/Player/Marcus-Carr-86079/high-school-151360/ I could go on and on and on with these. I could also find PLENTY of examples of top 50 busts. Putting a cap on someone's talent/ability/upside because they are a "sub 100 wing" is very concerning.

  11. Vic picking right up with the Rockets, 13-23 for 32 points, 9 assists, 5 boards (did have 7 TO's). Kind of cool to see him playing with EJ -- Gordon back, went 9-17 for 21. Two all time IU greats on the floor together. Rockets are missing a piece, but not far off from being a pretty good squad given time.

  12. He's "only" 101 in 247 composite, so while a 4* good get for IU, not sure there should be expectations of dominance as a HS junior on a team with other talented players.

  16. I know we have our bowl game in a week, and we still have some spots to fill on the 2021 class, but I can't help but be excited by what we can do with the 2022 class. It has to be one of the better in state classes in recent memory. I think this section I took a screenshot of will be the biggest thing for our class. How many of these 5 can we get (not counting Durant since I don't know anything about him). If we can get at least 2 or 3 of them, that would be a hell of a start to the class. Anybody have any recruits they think we have a good shot with?

  17. In a few years, it will be interesting to see studies that look back on different measures countries took. It is so tough to do on the fly because things are constantly changing, and we're still in the middle of things. I would guess within a couple years we'll have decent data on the effectiveness of lockdowns, mask wearing, and other measures countries took. There should be some really interesting studies done in the next few years.

  18. He could could definitely play at larger schools, and he has a work ethic that is in the 99th percentile. That said, I don't have a problem with him going to the MAC. I think he will be a star at that level, and would not be surprised at all to see him become a grad transfer to a Power 5 school down the road.

  19. Saw on highlights a great pass out from EJ to Vic for the 3. I hope both play well.

  20. The Composite has felt broken for a while. I don't know the inputs or how they're weighted, but there's either garbage in or garbage coming out. That's a general statement across the board, not specific to any one recruit. As for Gunn, he's ranked 125 by 247's own service. At Rivals he ranks 148. Both have him rated as a three star. I'm glad one of the best prospects in the state is still interested in playing for Indiana, and Armaan has been outplaying a similar ranking for much of the year, but I confess I'm not sure how I feel about yet another sub-100 wing. We've taken one or two in every class.

  26. Ignore/mute buttons are for people who put out patently untrue statements like "Bob Knight cut up with the press" and then can't defend them from the truth. I'd never use that function. You should look into it though...

  31. That reminds of the Cal story...but Archie isn’t on Cals level so he can’t get away with even the appearance of that kind of stuff. It was a western Kentucky HS showcase that had out of state teams and several 5* kids. They had a table set up for between games for people to meet the coaches and get autographs and Cal skipped it and Bill Self sat their for hours in Western Kentucky signing for any kid that wanted it. Never know when a kid might grow up and be your next recruit.

  32. Butler, too. IU was up 68-57 with 22 seconds left and Butler called a timeout so they could run a play to get the difference under 10. I just watched that again to check. Maryland was playing a full court press at the end which caused the turnover but didn't call a timeout to draw up a play.

  34. I’m never feeling sorry for a guy who gets paid the amount of money he does for coaching a kids game. I can personally deal with him being less than outgoing to other adults, but to do that to kids is beyond ridiculous. If the member will reveal I will gladly share. I do know it’s an indiana kid but unsure of which one.

  35. Like right now I am watching UCONN and St. Johns game and thought man this is the type of talent we have at IU. That is not a good thing because we need to be getting the talent of the top teams. We need to get mainly guys who are at least in the top 100 and hope for some guys in the 20-30 range

  36. I’ve thought the same thing. He’s a good player but he doesn’t jump out at you when you watch. At least for me he doesn’t. Again, very solid player just not what I was expecting.

  37. I’ve seen what you’ve seen probably so would love to hear from someone with insight. Love the length and he looks fluid. He has potential on both ends. To me, player development will be critical because there seems to be a lot to work with.

  39. Yes, on several alumni dinners where the coaches speak and then mingle with the major, high dollar donating alums he always seems to be the coach that is hard to find. I’m not a major donor but I’ve been a guest to several of these dinners and let’s just say he and Tom Allen are polar opposites. Tom is engaging and “works the room” for lack of a better term and makes it point to go to every person or table he can. Archie on the other hand gives his speech and basically disappears. He’s even not shown up to a couple of these, which to a lot of the big money guys is a major problem. If he were winning at a hire rate would this be an issue? Hell no! He’s not however Edit- I understand people are different but it’s really awkward for the coach of the flagstaff program to be this way to basically the people that write his checks. I believe I’ve seen a few other members of this board at a few of these and they had the same feelings. I’ll let them decide if they want to put their names out or not.

  40. Hoping for an easy biopsy. My dad had something strange show up on a ct scan that was on an internal rib. Dr gave up on the biopsy and said we will just keep an eye on it annually. Really hoping for the kids sake this is nothing/benign.

  41. If his best offer is Toledo he isn’t B1G caliber...sorry just a fact. Archie starts reaching for kids that aren’t getting power 6 offers then that is a sign he is desperate. Archie rarely is one of the first to offer a kid...especially state kid. Something may change but I doubt it. We already see where mid 150s and 250 ranked backcourt is getting us...we need elite talent if we want to win at a higher clip.

  43. I would put Moore in my top 4. I'd love to get some more highly ranked offensive linemen. I'd love Jackson too, but with McCulley a year ahead of him, not sure he'll want to come here. There was some talk about Curry in a thread on the basketball board, but don't remember which thread. I would guess he'll end up at OSU. Maybe @Jackson Kellogs can provide some more insight here.

  44. Thanks for starting this thread Leathernecks. Top 3 guys we seem to have a shot with that I would love to land are Strickland, Mullen, and Cooper. Obviously Curry would be a game changer, possibly from day 1. Does anyone know if there is even a slight chance here, or is IU out of consideration?

  45. I've seen about half of the Top 20 players in the state live. As far as being a high school player, there isn't. Not even close. Those recruiting ranking are based on college potential, and that is not as cut and dried. It may not have superstar talent, but the 2021 class is still extraordinarily deep. I will say this. 5 years from now, I expect Luke Brown to have had a better college career than many of those ranked ahead of him.
