  1. This season reminds me of the last season Notre Dame had under Charlie Weis. He had a really big buyout as well that didn't get cancelled if he got other work. So he was coaching football elsewhere and ND still paid him every penny over the course of several years. Still, it had to be done. You couldn't defend the product on the field. 3-9, 6-6, 6-6 over his last three seasons. It was the right move. Does Indiana have a Jack Swarbrick? Can Indiana hire a Brian Kelly? People said ND was dead. The fans were unrealistic. It was a has been program from the 20th century living off the past of Lou Holtz, Ara Parseghian and Knute Rockne. Does that sound familiar? They have gone undefeated in three of the last 10 seasons and gave been to the equivalent of three final fours under Kelly while winning several bowl games at a school that is far more difficult academic and moral conduct wise. I think we would take those results.

  2. "The Celtics should look into firing Brad Stevens and bring in a new head coach." Archie and the pack line defense would work wonders for the Celtics. It's exactly what Boston needs. I propose an even trade.

  3. I think we’d be lucky to get either and both would be clear upgrades. The only reason I’d pick Drew over Matta is because the last time Matta had a team anywhere near as good as Drew’s last two teams was in 2012 which is a long time ago. Just feel like it’d be a bigger risk than a guy who’s had a top 5 team the last two years.

  4. I agree with this conclusion. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/02/25/sports/patience-is-not-what-skidding-celtics-need-now/ Poor Stevens is clearly a basketball savant, but I fear his talents are wasted with these Celtics. There are times when it feels like he should be back at Hickory showing earnest young amateurs how to run the Picket Fence.

  6. Regarding Sampson...we will never know but I would not be surprised if he had one a championship or two by now.

  7. I’m fine with that. Get Drew here and let him coach!

  9. I don’t get why people vilify Sampson for a couple of knuckleheads on the team but forget that Crean had a player drunkenly run over one of his teammates.

  10. I'd personally prefer Matta but obviously I don't know where his health is. If he's ready to coach, I think he's the best option. Been to multiple Final Fours and more Elite 8's, has won multiple conference regular season and tournament titles. If he isn't healthy or interested in coaching again, then Drew might be a guy that given the last couple of years could come with some momentum.

  11. Heck of a win today by the women...did you ever think the women's basketball team and the IU football team would be top ten in nation and the mens team would be a doormat of the league

  12. I grew some last year, but they didn't amount to anything. There were a ton of tomatillos, but they would all fall off before they got very big. Biggest one I had was maybe golf ball size, but most never made it nearly that big. Not sure if I was too far north for them to grow well. Easy to grow though. A lot like a tomato. Grew up through the cage, and gets a ton of fruit.

  13. Spelling aside, it's tournament time in Indiana. Why is basketball buried on Page 7?

  19. The thing it wasn't just Ellis's and the big guy from Chicago. It was also Holman and McGee who were freshman that had a lot of problems. Even Bassett had a lot of problems so if Sampson had stayed we would still have a bunch of knuckle heads. I want to win as much as anyone but I want to have pride in the team and I had none for that team.

  20. I am not going to argue the stories Zion is speaking about, they may well be true. But the only first hand knowledge I have on him, is that a friend of mine was on the staff of the Sweet 16 Valpo team. He said that all of the Drew's are salt of the Earth type of people. Would give you there shirt of their back. He recently showed me a letter of recommendation Homer wrote for him. He said he is closer to Scott than Bryce, but Scott still invites him to dinner now and again after 20 years.

  21. The worst thing about KS imo was the type of guys he brought in. The administration certainly should've made him correct that part.

  22. That’s exactly what someone lse who recently got one said. He said, “Sure it sounds good now, but just wait!” I agree that even with all of the advances in audio, analog really can sound so much better and fuller with the right system. I like streaming too and some CDs, but they don’t sound near as good as my vinyl rig. Great question about the tubes. This amp is supposed to be pretty easy on tubes and they say you can get up to 10,000 hours on the big tubes and like 3,000-5,000 hours on the smaller ones. Rogue sells tubes and there are a few reputable places online where you can buy them too. I don’t know if you remember this, but some tubes sound better and are highly sought after. It’s not uncommon for people to pay $400+ for a single tube. I do remember the cabinet of tubes at the grocery store and the stereo store though. Those were the days! They also make new tubes now in Eastern Europe and China, but people still seek out the old US or Holland-made tubes. I will say this, the amp looks amazing in the evening with the lights low and a beverage in your hand!

  26. Tell you the truth the IWU women's team is very good and run some of the best offensive sets I have seen lately. Had great player movement with a lot of ball movement with off the ball screening. The pace of the game for both teams were great and it was up and down the court shooting 3's and they actually hit layups. Also the game itself was fast pace with no tV timeouts and no refs looking at the monitor every 5 minutes. I think IWU hit like 15 3's tonight and all 5 starters could shoot the 3.

  27. We need to get our coaching situation resolved as soon as possible or we won't be in position to recruit anyone. If Archie is coming back the athletic director needs to let it be known. If a change is going to happen it also needs to happen quickly. Archie will be considered a lame duck coach and schools will use that against him in recruiting.

  28. Unfortunately I don't have a fence. That is a good idea though!

  29. Just an idea. I live in down too. Bought some 1x1 furring strips and 2" wire fencing and made lean too's. If you have a fence it could be an option possibly. I just stapled the fencing to the wood. Hard to see in the picture but my wire mesh goes to the top of my fence and I stapled it to my fence.

  31. Actually ...that’s true because it would take an amazing team to beat them ( shanandoah is about as good a group of 8 rotation players as far as playing a as a team I’ve seen ) but you stand zero chance without competent bigger players ...no way Blackford will match with them if they hit in semi state .....I don’t have time to check but I bet he’s undefeated against teams without a 6’5 or taller player on the roster

  34. I'm not sure he would've kept bringing those low character guys in long term. I think he knew he only had one year of EJ and DJ and needed to strike while the iron was hot even if that meant adding some questionable pieces. We had a real shot at the FF that season.

  36. I am at the point that the only words that matter are Win Games Now. I don't want a coach that's eyeball deep in the muck but I am perfectly OK with a coach that plays in the gray area.

  37. My issue with Sampson is not the phone calls, it was the character of several of the kids he brought in. Particularly the 2 from Chicago.

  38. I'd take my chances with another Sampson. If that been any other administration in charge of that the whole thing would've been swept under the rug.

  39. And that's fine. I totally respect that. I just don't want to see people like you on here complaining in 4-5 years when we're still stuck with the next Crean or Miller because some weren't willing to take a chance with a Drew or Pearl.

  41. Iirc the Drew family as a whole was strong in their faith. I have a buddy whose brother is or was at one point on the Baylor bench and then on to Gonzaga. The way he met Scott was through Athletes in Action, a faith based sports group. Certainly not any sort of guarantee that he wasn't cheating or isn't a sleeze bag but I think IU fans really tried to rub dirt into his soul over the Perea rumor, which happened to be an assistant.

  42. It is so weird. I had a staff member ask me in late-December of 2019 if we would have to wear masks and I laughed. And there’s this - currently, one of my faculty is in New Zealand for his wedding (he’s from there). He and his wife landed and were immediately escorted to a hotel for a mandatory 14 day quarantine. No exceptions. Food is delivered to them. The crazy thing is no one wears masks in NZ anymore he said. They look out their window and talk to people on Facetime and it’s like COVID never existed. I think masks are here to stay for at least the rest of this year in many places.

  43. My best friend son is the manager of the women's team at Indiana Wesleyan and my friend doesn't think he would leave. He views coaching more as way of pastoring kids because he is a license pastor. I have no problem with anyone being to religious.

  44. Effort is a huge reason we don't win more games. Along with the lackadaisical way we pass and hold the ball. How many terrible and lazy passes do we see go the other way for points. If we averaged 7 TO's a game, that would translate to 3-4 more wins immediately. And if we playeds 100% every game and not just when we want, there is another 1-2 games.

  45. Archie has to get this team into the NCAAT. I really want him to survive this and for IU to excel. But the PG and guard and lack of shooting are killing IU. But in all of that is basketball IQ. These guys do not get it that one cannot turnover the ball like they do. And they have to put in full effort on defense. And assist each other on offense. Is all that up to the coach? Heck yeah it is. Get some smart (older) players out there. Replace the PG now. Not the coach. Replace the coach and some on the team will transfer. There goes the chance for them to get old again.

  46. This list is a big reason why I’m in favor of giving Archie a 5th year. That tier one list is incredibly uninspiring to me.

  47. I think I have decided I would got for a flyer and hire Keith Smart and pair him with a former veteran college HC. I also would try to bring in Micheal Lewis as an assistant and try the former IU guys to see if that can turn it around. We have tried other avenues and it hasn't work so why not try this to see if it will make a difference.

  48. That's a highly underwhelming list, and IMO, not worth making a change at this point. I wanted Beilein after WVU, not now. Matta's health is a major question mark, and the rest are pretty meh.
