  1. I will be in Hilton Head in August. Was supposed to go last year but got cancelled. Also I will put it here but I finally found a job and I start on May 3rd. I will be a courier for Quest Diagnostics on Indy.

  2. What can you tell us about coach Woodson in terms of his recruiting style and his personality? “He obviously is super confident. He’s super confident in himself and the staff. I picked up on that from our first conversation. He had a lot of energy and was really amped up about talking to me. Just being able to talk to me for the first time, I could feel that. As far as his recruiting style, I don’t think it’s a recruiting style. I think he’s real. He’s straight up with you, which I appreciate. He knows I can help him and I know that he can help me. That symbiotic relationship is exciting for me.” - Miller Kopp This answer really caught my eyes! We have a legit coach now!

  3. Mike Woodson's lone promise to Tamar Bates sounds a lot like the way Bob Knight once recruited, and probably the way Knight recruited Woodson. “Coach Woodson stressed to me that I will become a better man" And that was the main thing Bates needed to hear. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/tamar-bates-mike-woodson-promised-to-make-me-a-better-man/

  4. Look at the roster as it stands now? All kidding aside, compare it to every other big ten roster. Why (beyond we got used to sucking) do we think we can not compete for the top? Not saying it will happen. But we are not over matched by anybody in this conference, talent wise. Getting all these new guys in sync, with a new system is a reasonable concern. But talent wise....I do not see us mid level. We have players. I think we got used to not being good, and just lowered our hopes.

  5. A recurring sentiment about Coach Woodson.

  6. I am trying to wrap my head around just how different the roster now looks. I have to be honest; I DID NOT see this coming. Especially not this quickly. Well done, IU!

  7. I really hope fans are allowed back next season. TJD deserves to go out with a season full of packed houses. Health and safety #1 of course.

  10. Hunter has not been very good at playing basketball at Indiana, at all. Kopp has over 3 times as many career points scored. I guess I don't understand how someone that avged 13p 4r and shot 39% from 3 and is 6'7 could be a bad thing?

  11. Dare I ask.......TJD, are we done yet?......🤔

  12. You are going to have to earn your minutes 9n this team. Competition is only going to make them so.much better.

  13. Love this commit! Coach Woodson is showing he knows how to build a roster. And the age of Archie-ball is over. I expect very good-shooting Indiana teams in the future.

  15. Difficult to keep expectations low at this point with everything that has happened in just a few weeks but it is necessary to be realistic. New coaching staff, new players, and no idea how it all fits just yet. A lot to be decided but it is looking really good to be a Hoosier fan. What you can reasonably expect is a faster tempo, more/better three point shooting, a more physically talented team, and more position flexibility. The fact IU, as of today, has a full roster is a stark difference than what we have seen the past four seasons. The competition level at practice should be excellent. Never understood why Archie would self-impose a roster limit (basically penalizing his program) every season. Maybe you don't always have 13, but we have seen what happens when you go with 9 or 10 and have a prolonged or season-ending injury.

  16. As others have joked....once Woodson figures out this recruiting thing we might have something. Haha. To change our roster over this quickly and to do so not just with bodies but top transfers and top 50 recruits? Can't say it enough how impressed I am with Coach Woodson so far.

  17. Indy is getting ready to have 200,000 for the 500. Dolson said the tailgate fields and stands will be open for football. A new prez at IU who loves sports!!!!!!!!. Shouldn't be a problem. Finding cheap tickets anymore will be.

  21. This is the paragraph that jumped out at me, This is what is going to help make Mike Woodson a home run hire. Not to pile on Archie, but this is something he lacked. “He was just like, ‘Our relationship is going to go far past IU,'” Bates said of Woodson. “He said, ‘Our relationship is going to last for the rest of your life.’ And it’s the same thing with the entire coaching staff. It wasn’t just the assistant that led my recruitment. It was all the coaches who talked that way.”

  22. revisit now that we pretty much got NW's best player? A stretch forward to fill the remaining glaring hole we had left on the roster? We are now at least 2 deep at every position. And we can interchange 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 X/Lander Rob/Bates Stewart/Galloway/Leal Kopp/Hunter/Geronimo TJD/Race/Logan We look good on paper, but now Woody will need to show how he can develop and game plan at the college level. I think we just moved up to a top 15 team in most preseason polls and to the top 3 or 4 in the B1G, but all that is meaningless because it only matters how we finish. Trying not to be overly optimistic, but I think our floor is 20 wins. I think we will finish the regular season ranked and get at least a 5 seed. Somebody stop me from drinking the Kool-aid! I'm sounding crazy! ....Or am I on to something?

  23. So we have 4 SRs (Thompson, Kopp, Phinisee, Johnson) that all have 2 years of eligibility left if they want it? About time. Forget get old, stay old. Get good, get great, get unstoppable, stay unstoppable.

  24. Hearing there may still be some roster management to be done. I am still hopeful we can find a place for Kyle Mangas. I think he can help the team big time next year.

  25. Are shooting % continues to go up,dare i say we wont see 20% from 3 anymore for a game....Kopp strikes me has a Brian Evans type player.

  27. This team in a rebuilding Big Ten just went to top 5 in the league. Top 15 in the nation. Well thats it. What do we do now. Full up. Long summer of waiting.

  28. As of now... if you give Woodson's hire anything less than an "A" you are just purposely being negative.

  32. It’s nice to have a staff that can identify the holes in our roster and then actually get a player to fill it. This program rn feels like a complete 180 from a couple months ago.

  33. With this latest, and probably last, addition I expect us to compete for a conference title and be in a position to make a run in the tournament. The margins between finishing first and fifth, and making a deep tournament run and not, are so slim that it is hard to put an exact finish spot or what round we will make as an expectation for me. I believe Woodson and Co. have come in and put us in the best position we could have hoped, and I think roster management and recruiting were probably the biggest question marks for Woodson coming into the college game.

  38. 36% from three for his career. Tremendous free throw shooter too. It’s going to be so refreshing to hopefully not self destruct with inept free throw shooting. 2.9 boards per game for his career. At 6’7, he can work on getting that number up a bit. He always impressed me when we played against him.

  42. Alright, just finished watching the highlight tapes... Are we really comparing Phinisee to this kid? Phinisee is not on Bates’ level, “tough on defense” upperclassman or not. He just doesn’t have that kind of frame, athleticism, or shooting ability. We’ve seen what Phinisee is... He’s just not Big Ten starter material. But the nice thing is that there should be no preconceived notions or misplaced allegiance to the upperclassmen with the new staff. Whoever wins the starting spot in practice will get it. My money’s on X and Bates.

  43. There is a huge need for creating better young men in this world! College is suppose to be about teaching you and preparing you for life. Kid that is that good a basketball player will be great with just about any good coach. But what better to prepare you for life and nba then a man with the life experiences of Coach Woodson.

  44. I am trying to keep the horses in front of the cart. Some of you have the horses in the barn and eating oats while i am still standing at the cart, in town, on another continent. I honestly expect us to be better, we can't really get much worst. I will wait and see how it plays out. What offense and defense we run. Do these guys have the BBIQ to learn it quickly and then translate that to the floor at game speed. Can we put the ball in the bucket? On paper we should be really good. But i have heard that same line, in this same forum, in every off season to be drawn in to that trap of excitement again. So i will wait and see. Lets see if Coach Woodson is this coaching god everyone seems to think he is. I just want to see player development. Passion on the court. Smart basketball. The W/L will take care of themselves if we get that.
