For several reasons I disagree with you. But to keep this short and sweet, I would hate it for a kid who COMMITTED to IU and RECOMMITTED to a new coaching staff have his dreams killed because a kid WHO CHOSE TO GO ELSEWHERE decided he might have made a bad decision16 points

If this would happen this offseason, then I think it's even more unfair. The players haven't even had the opportunity to show improvement to this coaching staff. Don't get me wrong. I'm okay with trying to recruit the best players possible when there are open schollies. If that means a starter from last season doesn't start next season, so be it. My point is that the program has 13 scholarships to use. All 13 have been awarded. Is it good to take that away from a kid that committed to IU straight out of high school and stuck with it through a coaching change. Keion Brooks had a chance to commit to IU out of high school ad didn't/ He also had the same free agency opportunity that Xavier Johnson and Miller Kopp did after Woodson was hired. And, he didn't make the move when the spot was available. Neither he, nor any other player, who had those opportunities should take a scholly from someone who previously made that commitment,10 points

I am so ridiculously excited about the future of this program!7 points

I watch a little NBA. The game itself can be entertaining. Unfortunately, some of the off-court stuff and personalities are borderline revolting. I don't care how much you donate to charity...money can't buy you class. Tweet a cops picture and threaten said cop with violence? No class. I've got no use for a person who does something like that regardless of how talented they are. So yeah...I like the college game a lot more than I like the pro game. Seems odd since all the best college players have a goal of playing in a league many college fans find relatively unattractive.6 points

I think we have squeezed all the juice out of this particular line of discussion - let’s redirect back on to Woodson.6 points

Like him or not whatever the case...funny thing is people are super psyched to have a national recruiter who is linked to some of the most physically gifted and talented players in the country...including elite point guards and the first guy these people want to recruit.....a local 6’0 point guard that while talented and incredibly driven would put us right back in the same box we just broke out of. Why bring in Woodson and Yasir and Kenya if we want that level of recruit.5 points

This is all speculation, but the conversation of a guard moving on very well may not be centered around one of the guys who made clear they are committ6to Indiana regardless of coach. There is one scholarship guard on the roster that I can't recall hearing from since the season ended...4 points

i won't name names because i think it is inappropriate, but i would be very happy to have a guard leave and Brooks come in.4 points

I agree with this as well. I dont want anyone to go to make room for Brooks. I'm good with what we have. This team will do some damage. After this season Its wide open. No more caring the Tim Prillers of the world, dead weight.4 points

You mistake me for an NBA fan. I rarely watch until the playoffs and even watching the playoffs I don't do often. However, that doesn't blind me to the fact that the NBA is much more popular than college ball.4 points

Agree. I actually think lack of athleticism has been a much larger issue the last 4 years than having too many athletes. Who are all of these ultra-athletes that IU has had? Phinisee isn't that athletic, Galloway isn't, Leal isn't, Hunter isn't, Race isn't, Durham isn't, etc., etc. IU hasn't had a super athletic wing since maybe Troy Williams. I'm not sure where this narrative I've seen posted a lot recently came from that IU needs "basketball players not athletes"? We haven't been a very athletic team in about 5 years when we had Bryant and OG.4 points

Damn right! One of the best lines I ever heard from a controller to a complaining pilot... "All due respect sir, but you've got one aircraft to worry about. I have 15."3 points

Are you going to set up a control tower at his house so he can learn that the pilot is not really the one in charge?3 points

And that's the sad part about it. A couple of the players who would be at risk are there because it's Indiana... Just like their coach was back in 1977...3 points

You miss my point. Quinn (1) was not a great shooter, (2) did not have a great assist to turnover ratio and (3) was more valued for his defense. No one is saying Phinisee is the 2nd coming of Quinn Buckner here. I'm simply saying there are ways to contribute without being a star on the offensive end.3 points

100%. A huge reason we haven’t been able to finish at the rim is lack of athleticism. Can’t beat our man off the dribble, can’t finish above the rim, can’t alter shots...can’t push the ball and finish fast breaks even with 3-1...few and 1s. Get abused by Ayo, Carbello, Livers, Waggoners, Iveys, Geo Bakers and so many others from past years. Having some actual size in the backcourt 6’3 6’5 6’5 and player like Xavier who can breakdown a defense as opposed to guys like Rob or Al is a huge upgrade. Count me happy!!3 points

I really don't want anyone to leave from current roster. I don't know maybe it's loyalty. Maybe it's I think all of them have the ability to contribute in some way next and upcoming years in a couple instances. However I understand Woodson needs to get his roster the way he wants it as quickly as possible. Our previous coach was hamstrung when taking over. Don't want to see that happen again.2 points

Sounds like Woody is not content. Man was brought here to do a job, and hard decisions are going to be made. Some of which, people may not agree with at first. I would be happy with the current roster as is, but I also realize there are a few players that just aren't good enough2 points

I’ll save my breath. You clearly have this recruiting thing down. Wake me up when the kid has an offer from another power 5 school or better yet a B1G school. I do think he is a great player but let’s not mistaken “interest” for an offer. Nothing wrong with mid major basketball. That’s incredible! So it’s not disrespectful to be of the opinion that is the likely avenue.2 points

While I'm not sure why there are pages of debate and hand-wringing over something that hasn't happened and probably won't happen, I tend to agree with your take. I think a contributing factor to Archie's recruiting problems was that he held scholarships open indefinitely for guys like Brooks and Kaufman and let both of them him-haw around until we couldn't get anybody else. and then, of course, they went somewhere else. Fife hinted at this in his media availability, but if kids want to play basketball for this prestigious program, they need to make a decision about their scholarship offer while it is available. If not, then we move on, get somebody else, and win without them. So until somebody voluntarily leaves, which certainly may happen, my opinion is the roster is full and the kids who passed on their offers are out of luck.2 points

College basketball definitely needs stars, but it is more team driven then Superstar driven. How many fans of Lebron KD or Kwahi and PG have followed them from team to team. The NBA will always be star driven while college ball will be team driven. One is globally, because of the stars, and the other is regional because of the teams.2 points

I also played college basketball so I love that game too. Why not just stay out of the conversation then? For someone that doesn't care, you've been pretty outspoken and immersed in the discussion. We're having a conversation about national and global appeal of the games, and you chime in that your singular viewing preference is all that matters to you. So why even join the conversation? Just ignore it.2 points

with the focus on politics, constantly changing rules, "look at me" attitude, jumping from team to team, load management, selfish basketball, i'd honestly have a tough time deciding between watching frogs making love or the NBA if i would be forced to watch one. i know where Coach Knight stands with that, but i'd be a little torn.2 points

I'm beginning to lean towards.... XJ, Stewart, Bates, kopp, and TJD. I'm curious about how the three point guards situation plays out. I think Race's most important role will be when TJD is out of the game, but he'll still play 20+ minutes. I have no idea what to expect from Lander or Phinesee. Probably the biggest variables on the team. Lander's rating and Phinesee's freshman moments still have me wondering if they'll shine. And fair or unfair, much of what I think about Archie as a coach will hinge on what I see from them this season. I think Geronimo plays an important role off the bench. Leal and Galloway are still a year away. As is Duncomb. And I'm pretty meh on Hunter.2 points

If 3 Purdue cheerleaders were standing in a field at 8 o'clock and they were joined by 7 other Purdue cheerleaders at 9 o'clock, and 4 more entered the field at 10 o'clock, what do you have? 1) A herd 2) Piles of dung 3) Foul odor 4) All of the above2 points

This is where this whole process becomes uncomfortable to me. I realize that as we add players and someone's projected playing time changes, it could cause a player to rethink his situation. You simply can't play 13 people extended minutes. But, I hope that if any of the remaining players do leave, it's for a better opportunity. I hope they aren't leaving because they don't feel wanted any longer.2 points
