  1. This is the perfect situation for Woodson IMO. For whatever reason, the freshmen we landed are not getting much fanfare. Duncomb more than held his own against Furst when they played, his ranking shows they are closer than many of the fans of your team would want to admit. I think, even with the loss of Franklin and Durham, that the talent we have coming in for next year is a big upgrade. The news has been slow around here lately...seems like the program is just quietly humming along right now. I really like this team on paper. We may not be a national title contender next year, but I think Indiana is going to win games. And for the coach and players, it seems really quiet for once. They are going to have time to get the team in place. I do not like the lack of things to talk about, but I love what that could mean.

  2. I love how our recruiting script has flipped. We have an attractive style of play with personable coaches who can relate to kids. The style of ball is appealing and not tedious and boring. Our staff is obviously extremely aggressive and relentless on the recruiting trail. Notably, we have three assistants who are outstanding recruiters. Any of the three could be lead recruiter types at big schools. Yet we have three! And then they have an accomplished NBA coach to pitch. Times have changed.

  3. Responding to your post, but mostly to the fan base. I've been quiet about this, and it very well may get me laughed at. Hecklers, Joe_Hoopsier says piss off. 5-7 games last year could be in the win column with a couple free throws, 1-3 more made TOTALLY OPEN 3 pointers, 2-3 made bunnies. The system wasn't terrible, players WERE put in situations to win games, but the players didn't finish those 3-9 points scored over 40 (sometimes more) minutes of play. We didn't lose 8 games buy being blown out. My point is, the talent level is here. The additions (players) are icing on the cake. I'm sorry that the atmosphere at IU (adim) had created a situation where coaches and kids would check out mid season. It's hard to understand (read that as - admit to) that an equal amount of ass kickin with back patting is required to make young boys, into great men and WINNERS!. I finally, since CBK, think there is an adim behind the coaching that will accept what it takes. OH, with a great former player (and man) making sure that ALL stake holders have their requirements met. I've now spent my 6 month character limit (pisses my wife off!, see never shuts up), but that is how I feel.

  4. National title contender? Why not? The pieces are there to make a run. If UCLA could do it this past year, then we definitely could ... assuming the team gels and picks up Woody’s system quickly. I hope this team thinks they can. Little too early to tell, but if they ever feel like they can’t then somebody isn’t doing their job. And I know you’re tempering expectations and not wanting to look crazy for thinking we could go from what we had last year to the complete opposite, but I absolutely think they can.

  5. I know it's still early but you would have to go back to 1968 and 1908 to see league wide averages this low in MLB. As a league baseball is averaging .233 Is it pitching? Batters focusing on exit velocity over putting in play? Probably a combination but when you get into all time lows....something is very wrong with MLB players in the box. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/bat.shtml

  6. I can't even keep up with the offers right now. Basically just going to sit back and relax on recruiting. Woodson and Staff are basically offering any top 30 kid between 6'8 and 7'0 who has legit NBA talent who can shoot, are versatile....and don't mind playing defense. What a glorious and simple concept.

  8. I’m pretty sure the extra scholarships was just for 5th year seniors this year. I don’t think that’ll be the case going forward even though everyone who played last year got a free redshirt out of it.

  9. TY for the info. And from that article I have come to the conclusion that Cleveland getting no-hit twice in the same year means nothing. Love me some "Shoeless" Joe Jackson mentions.

  10. Give me someone like Flip over him. I personally think his 5* ranking is more on potential. Don’t get me wrong, he’s solid and may eventually turn into a beast, but I like a guy like Flip who will be more polished stepping foot on campus Day 1.

  11. The Tribe has tied the record... No team has been no-hit 3 times in a year...

  12. This will be the 4th year in a row and the only 4 years in the history of MLB that there have been more strikeouts than hits. Boring baseball is walking to first, walking to the dugout, or trotting around the bases... Something has to give...and I don't think Rob Manfred is the guy to do it...

  13. Wade Miley no-hitter against the Indians. 3-0. He reminds me of Tom Browning in the way he pitches. Works quickly and throws mostly in high 80's to 90/91 mph....in and out...up and down.

  14. Good interview with Devonte Green on Assembly Call that I recommend. Very interesting how he talks about the differences between Archie and Crean. He said that Crean pretty much only focused practices around development and drills while CAM mainly did 5 on 5 scrimmages. He also talked about Archie’s tight leash (my words) and how he didn’t like the packline because he believed it was ineffective against good shooting teams who stretched the floor. None of those statements are the least bit surprising as much they are a confirmation of many fans’ thoughts about the last 5 years. When I look back it’s really surprising that he stayed because his style of play and CAM’s system were like oil and water.

  20. I had to read this sentence twice to believe it. And, then I read it twice more because I liked it so much. With Thursday’s showing, Lodolo now owns 40 career strikeouts while still having not issued his first free pass.

  21. This is one thing I learned from playing baseball in college that you can't do. Our coach was full of BS, and once guys got on campus, they hated him because he lied to them during recruiting. The players were actively recruiting against the coach when recruits would visit. If you lie to recruits, it might help recruiting, but it isn't going to end well. Have to love the honest approach this staff takes with recruits.

  25. Little bit of news. IU and Purdue have both been in contact via phone calls within the past week to his Dad/coach. I’m not super familiar with the recruiting process. I’m inclined to think they’re not recruiting him as of now, just watching. Still, it’s exciting news for this Greene County native.

  28. Maybe. He hasn't helped himself with all of the injuries. He's missed a ton of time over his two seasons. I'd also say those same things haven't seemed to hurt Nesmith. Sure, even Nesmith would probably get more time elsewhere, but when he plays he impacts the game and has scored in double figures several times the last month or so.

  31. Sad to see that Aaron Nesmith has passed Romeo Langford in the Celtics rotation. Langford still plays some, but Nesmith is ahead of him. Nesmith plays just as hard defensively but is way ahead of Langford offensively.

  38. I'm okay with the mask mandate until the world has better control over Covid. I also understand that other people may disagree with it. What I don't get is why people have to fight it and flaunt the fact that they are fighting it. If I go to a store that requires shoes, I'm not strutting in there barefoot just to make a point. Given what the world has been going through, why would we fight a mask mandate harder than we would the No shoes, No shirt, No service rule?
