  1. Imagine the package the coaching staff can put together. Hi I’m mike Woodson. Legend here, played in nba, know what it takes to get there, and stay there. oh that guy? That’s just Thad Matta. Oh the new player development guy? Spent 15 years in the league. Dane fife? 2002 guy. Izzo guy. Indiana guy down deep. Kenya and yasir? Deep roots all over country. the attraction is back. There’s no way this could have gone better in woodys first 2-3 months. No way.

  5. Sounds like Woodson's staff is doing a really nice job with recruits. Interesting that this is the first time I've really heard a recruits family comment on the living quarters. That's always something you hear with a place like Kentucky but it's nice to hear that IU put on a favorable impression. I assume where the players live is pretty new?

  7. Was in Meijer tonight and noticed the first Football magazines have hit the rack. I recall at the end of last season we discussed having a HSN member Fantasy football league this year (bragging rights only). Everyone still interested in that? I believe @KDB even offered to be commissioner. I'll leave it up to the majority, but my preference is PPR with a cap of 12 teams. If we get more interest than that, we could possibly explore a second league. I prefer PPR because it helps balance the field for those with later draft picks and makes a lot more players viable plays each week. The roster construction I prefer is 1 QB, 2 RB, 2WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DST, 1 Flex. and 6 bench. But, I'm again open to suggestions from others. I just think a a 3 WR setup in a 12 team league thins out the position too much. Who else out there is interested? Going to keep a running list of those interested. Taking it to 24 spots in case we have enough for 2 leagues. If we have more than 12, but less than 24, we can evaluate if it makes sense to have smaller leagues. If we are sitting on an odd number, I would be willing to enter a team in both leagues to ensure everyone that wants to gets to play. 1) @KDB(commissioner) 2) @5fouls 3) @Steubenhoosier 4) @rico 5) @PAHoosier 6) @btownqb 7) @Billingsley99 8 ) @Hoosier51 9) @Parakeet Jones 10) @ledies22 11) @bluegrassIU 12) @Indykev 13) @dgambill 14) @KoB2011 15) @tdhoosier 16) @Seeking6 17) @Leathernecks 18) @B_A 19) @BeerBQ 20) @mrflynn03 21) @NotIThatLives 22) @Sagamore 23) 24)

  8. Man...that IS nice. I didn't dig too deep but I had the impression they are privately-owned/not part of the university. I think that would allow IU athletics to lease rooms for student athletes without worrying about running afoul of the rule on athlete housing being available to other students. Strikes me as a way to level the playing field with wildcat lodge...have a private individual or company with a lot of resources that loves IU build a really high-end student housing complex knowing that a significant percentage of them will be leased to IU student athletes each year. If that's what happened, it sounds like a real win-win to me.

  9. No doubt. I lived in McNutt in the late 70s. My brother visited one time and said, “man, you live in a tenement”

  10. Besides winning I wanna see some passion and excitement just like we see with IU football. I feel during CAM’s tenure everything was so boring and robotic.

  12. He's the top ranked player from Indiana in the class of 2023 and IU's first offer in the class. But an injury and a move have taken him off the radar a bit. Here's the latest on elite point guard Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/2023-5-star-point-guard-dra-gibbs-lawhorn-enjoying-life-in-utah-as-return-to-basketball-nears/

  18. I don't see a scenario where the Celtics give up Jaylen Brown for anything less than another star player. They're not giving up a 24 year old all-star that averages 25ppg just to get rid of Kemba's contract. Someone will take Kemba's contract. As @dgambill, there's always someone willing to take a bad contract. It's been done with Wall, Westbrook, Chris Paul, etc, etc. But if the Celtics move Brown, it will be to bring in another star that just fits better with Tatum.

  19. Stuck out to me as well. They live in complex across the street called Evolve. Nice to hear a family say all facilities are nice but these are next level. Makes it nicer hearing them saying that after visiting Missouri and Illinois too.

  20. I want to see it in action first...but I was getting tired of seeing the same teams in the 4 team play-off. I see a conference commish has already whined about playing in cold weather due to the on campus scenarios. Originally I thought 8 would be the number and then someone talked me into 16.

  21. 1st rd 2021 pick, Rozier and either Bridges or PJ Washington for Myles and Aaron. That moves the needle for me and would be hard for any of the teams above to beat IMO. Then combine your two late lottery picks and move up if you love someone. If not, this draft has good talent through the mid teens so Indy could get two really good players. Now of course if the Knicks came offering Barrett and something else that intrigues me.

  22. Heard rumblings about Workhorse (WKSE) or WWE (WWE) entering the Reddit picture. If you’re a more traditional investor, KemPharm (KMPH) is a biotech on the rise. Good pipeline of drugs either soon to be entering the market and in development, and very cash heavy. Will be added in the next revision of the Russell 2000.

  23. No one thought someone would take the John Wall contract....the Chris Paul one..Russell Westbrook. They can move him....they just may have to take an equally bad contract in return...or maybe they give the Knicks who have a ton of cap space a young asset and a pick to do it...if dumping him is the priority.

  24. I don't really see how else the Celtics are getting off of Kemba's contract if they aren't willing to make a big move like that. How else are they getting someone to take over $30m/year for Kemba? I just don't see them running it back, could be wrong. I agree with @BGleas that Turner isn't that much better than Williams, but I do think Brogdon at point at Warren as another wing scorer to replace Brown who isn't nearly as ball dominant would fit better. Then with Williams and Turner you just have added depth and can make sure you always have a shot blocker on the floor, since neither of those guys can really play more than 30 minutes.

  25. I don’t think the Celtics are coming off Brown for anything less than a superstar (Lillard/Beal). Could be wrong and that could have changed under Stevens but under Ainge I don’t think it would happen. I mean I’m sure he was part of the AD discussions a couple years ago and it didn’t happen then. I’m starting to wonder what real trade value Myles Turner has in all honesty. You’ve heard about him in trades for last 3 years...to everyone and yet Pacers haven’t moved him? Part of me thinks it’s the Pacers trying to manufacture trade value for him by linking him to every team.

  26. If Tamar Bates was from Indiana he’d be way more hyped. I think it’ll work to our/his advantage, and I couldn’t be more thrilled that he’s in an Indiana uniform.

  28. See this is where I go a little sideways with you. Trying to be complimentary of my team without saying one word about your team....yet you can't resist taking just taking a little shot downplaying the Cubs comeback. Pretty impressive juggling act you have going on. Good start to the series for us Cubs fans. Hopefully we get Hendricks back over the weekend.

  31. Bloomington is a strange place this last 10 years or so. The levels of $ I've seen down there over the past decade keeps getting bigger and bigger. Places like Evolve are almost normal or expected to some. Little bit nicer than my 338, 395 Varsity Villa....our senior we stepped up big and moved to Elkins. Sorry to derail. This kid would be an impressive haul and get us back in the door at La Lu which I don't mind anymore. Top 25 out of state talents who love our tradition and blown away on first visit. Not bad Coach Woodson!

  34. I definitely think that's a championship caliber team if they're not already one. I'm really interested to see if the roster tweaks they've made plus Doc Rivers is enough to make the Simmons/Embiid combo a championship combo, or if they need the type of shake up you mentioned.

  35. This would be a huge get. Top of the list for me. If we can nab a kid with this skill at La Lu I think it will be a great benefit for the future from that area

  37. Exactly. Is it harder to win a title in Utah, Indiana, Milwaukee, etc., etc., than it is in LA, Miami or other prime markets? Sure it is. But at the same time, the Knicks haven't been a contender since 1999, the Clippers have never been a contender, and if I'm being honest the Celtics have only been a true contender for about a 3-4 year period (2008-2010/12) since about 1987. Those are three of the most prime markets in the league. The bottom line is that you need smart management, an owner willing to go all-in when the opportunity is there, and of course some luck. The Pacers were unlucky with injuries to Granger and PG, but also have not had an owner willing to go all-in. I don't know if I believe this necessarily, but PG's side of the Pacers story is that he wanted to stay but his breaking point was when the top PF in the NBA (PG's words) called him and said he wanted to join him in Indiana and when PG brought this to management they wouldn't pull the trigger. Again, I don't know if that is true, but it does sound like something Pacers management would do. You put PG with say Anthony Davis (assuming that is who PG was referrencing) on that Pacers squad and you're contending during that time period in the East. To win a title in the NBA you have to be smart and lucky, but regardless of the market it also requires an owner willing to spend when the team is close and an opportunity arises.

  40. Guy on another site said Mercer was exactly like Archie. Where do these fans come from? Obviously another planet. Mercer is 72-47. That's including ONLY conference games and only a loaded non conference last year. Just saying he hasn't had a lot of give mes the last two years. We were 22-9 and then disaster struck. Losing 9 of our last 13. 13 games isn't a very big sample size.

  41. Not only did he graduate from Bloomington North but he was a member of the 1976 Indiana All-Star team with Mike Woodson. He played 4 years at Oklahoma scoring over 1,000 pts. His coach in college? Dave Bliss.

  42. Wow - I do not see any scenario where we are not a serious player in college basketball in the near future. Just wow!

  43. I massively endorse this hire! Armond Hill was an assistant on Doc Rivers staff with the Celtics when I worked there. Just a tremendous person and a great coach, especially in the area of working with players individually and guiding/mentoring. Love this hire. I'll repeat again, I was extremely discouraged by the Mike Woodson hire and was very vocally against it. But after cooling off and digesting it for a few days after the announcement, I came back to the board and said that what Scott Dolson was doing seemed far more strategic in terms of building a pro-style program that the top players want to be apart of, as opposed to just lazily "hiring an IU guy". What Dolson has done here, and in turn what Mike Woodson is executing is a clear and direct plan for putting IU back on top in college basketball. How can players not be sold on joining a program being led by Mike Woodson, Thad Matta, Armond Hill and Dane Fife, and that's before even getting to the other two assistants who by all accounts are great recruiters, etc.
