  1. I like that Xavier Johnson just tweeted don't let the NIL distract you from the main goal!

  4. I'm not saying it will ever go this far but could you imagine the loot Watford would have made after his shot just by charging $100 for a shot out to Hoosier fans using Cameo? The real time stuff is going to be amazing and maddening to track over the course of a season. End of the day though. They win and play well....more $. They lose and don't.....people will be less likely to spend $.

  5. That's why I avoid that stuff like a COVID sundae with anthrax sauce. I can barely understand my own kids, let alone someone else's.

  6. I'm guessing what we'll see for the most part are players doing influencer deals with companies (ie, promoting products on their social media), players doing local appearances, sponsoring summer camps in their respective sports, and players using their likeness to create things like YouTube channels where you get a rev share on ad clicks from the platform. There are literally kids the same age who nobody every heard of making tons of money by building YouTube channels.

  7. We have plenty of time to figure out point values but my only wishes are PPR (prefer 1 point) and QB's passing TD's are only 4 points not 6. We have bonuses in one of my leagues for 100+ yards receiving/rushing or over 300 for QB throwing. I'll go with whatever the masses want just throwing this out there.

  10. I knew it was bad over there but not this bad. I cautioned our little friend who shows from time to time the damage that not getting guys to the league early would have. Anyway. Kofi Cockburn leaving Illinois. Has name in draft still....but if he returns to college it won't be at Illinois.

  11. Absolutely! I'm connected with the director or marketing for Twitch on twitter and LinkedIn, and he literally just posted on LinkedIn about NIL and athletes using Twitch. That will be a big platform for these kids.

  12. That's one small step for...me, I guess. I've studied and dabbled in the market over the last 10 years, but always on a cash basis. Earlier this week, I pulled the trigger and applied/converted one of my brokerage accounts to margin. I have zero intention of using the vast majority of that leverage. I mainly just wanted to be able to trade on unsettled cash. Well, everything finally re-settled today, and I pulled the trigger on my first extremely small but successful short sale. I've never done any hard drugs, but damn....that has to be what it feels like. Creating money from nothing....Even if it is just $1.60.

  13. Agree with you on the QB TD point value. 4 definitely works better than 6.

  15. I'm all for not getting fancy. I like my fantasy football like Purdue nerds like their whoopy: missionary and through the pee hole of their onesie pajamas. I like standard, 1/2 point or full point ppr.....anything beyond that makes me dizzy and feeling overstimulated. 😕 Example of 'fancy' rules: points for return yardage, defensive position player points, 2 starting QBs (especially in a 12 man league), 3 flex positions, etc. There may be some newbies playing, and we need to remember that most free online ranking services don't take into consideration leagues that are set-up with previously listed fancy rules. This would put newbies a great disadvantage. JMHO...I'm playing regardless. Thanks again @5fouls for putting it together.

  16. Thought some of you might be interested, I got this last night in my inbox (of note, interesting they point out continuing to support IU instead of just the athlete directly): Dear XXXX, Tomorrow launches a new and exciting era of intercollegiate athletics for our students and for you as loyal Hoosier supporters, as our students will be allowed to be compensated for the name, image and likeness (NIL). This is a right that all other college students have enjoyed, and I am excited for our student-athletes that they now have this same opportunity. In anticipation of this rules change, we have gone to great lengths in recent years to educate our students about their NIL rights through dedicated programming and third-party partnerships with Opendorse and Altius. I am particularly appreciative of the enormous efforts that Senior Associate Athletic Directors Rebecca Pany and Jeremy Gray as well as Director of Social and Digital Media Lynnea Phillips have made to prepare for this new landscape. So what does all this mean, and what opportunities will exist for our students and for you? These new NIL rights mean that our students will be able to use their name, image and likeness to enter into agreements and be compensated while still preserving their eligibility to compete in intercollegiate athletics. Among the types of NIL agreements that they can enter into: • Traditional Endorsements + Social Media – They can be paid to endorse a product in any medium, including social media. • Appearances, Autographs + Camps – They can be paid to make appearances, sign autographs, or conduct camps. • In-kind Deals – They can receive “free” product for a photo, autograph, or social media post. While this is a seismic shift in the world of intercollegiate athletics, there are still some very important things that you need to know that have not changed. Among those are: • These new NIL rights do not refer to pay-for-play – Compensation cannot be contingent upon athletic performance as the basis for the deal. • These NIL rights do not allow for compensation to be contingent upon initial or continued enrollment at a particular school. • Your support of the Varsity Club means as much as ever – while you, as donors, will have new opportunities to enter into independent agreements with our student-athletes, your continued support of the Varsity Club remains critical as we provide for the outstanding educational and athletic opportunities for our student-athletes in the same way we always have. I invite you to review our IU Athletics NIL Policy, as well as this set of Frequently Asked Questions that may address items that I have not mentioned. If you are interested in connecting with a student-athlete about an opportunity beginning tomorrow, the FAQ highlights different ways that you can make direct contact with them. As always, thank you for your continued support of our student-athletes and IU Athletics as we collectively move into this new era! Go IU! 17. I hope people around these kids have taught them about taxes because they will have to pay them. Also heard someone bring up if a kid signed a contract with a company for 2 years but the kid decides to transfer. Will that player have to repay some of the money by breaking the contract.

  18. I like the NIL as well. They should be able to cash in on their own likeness. As for the psychology, I think the players are already somewhat conditioned to the open marketplace simply through the recruiting system, where some players get great/numerous scholarship offers and others do not. It will certainly be interesting to see how this evolves. I like that IU is willing to work with the players to give them every advantage that the can.

  20. Yeah. We had been sitting on 22 teams for about 10 days to 2 weeks, so Kev and I decided we each would field a second team to fill things up, if necessary. But, if we end up getting others that want to join, our 2nd teams will be replaced.

  22. Believe what you want. He was always a Duke lean and now that he’s got the offer it would take something crazy for him not to end up there. It’s just a matter of time.

  23. Quick Update. Although we are no longer going to promote the two remaining openings, as it stands now, IndyKev and I will be fielding teams in both leagues. If someone asks to join before the draft, we will try to accommodate (up to 2 spots). KDB and Kev are starting their discussions on league structure and should have something for us on that soon so that you can begin thinking about your draft strategy. Using a deck of cards (red/black), I split the group into leagues as follows League Indiana @KDB(commissioner) @5fouls @Steubenhoosier @btownqb @Hoosier51 @KoB2011 @tdhoosier @Seeking6 @B_A @BeerBQ @mrflynn03 @Indykev(second team) League Hoosiers @Indykev(commisioner) @rico @Billingsley99 @Parakeet Jones @PAHoosier @bluegrassIU @ledies22 @dgambill @Leathernecks @NotIThatLives @Sagamore @5fouls(second team)

  29. Hey all- Have not posted for awhile, but I think NIL is going to be huge for Indiana and recruiting. Indiana is not going to pass a State law covering NIL, so they will not have to follow State rules. IU and Wisconsin are the only ones who will not be following State law. I don't how much advantage if any this will be, but Indiana has been really blazing there own path. Indiana was the first school in the country to have a task force related to NIL. They have an incredible system set up and ready to go which will have the Kelly School of Business supporting it, and of course Opendorse, to tailor content for each athlete and choose a plan for each athlete. The Indiana Daily Student wrote a piece on NIL which is really informative on just how far ahead of the NIL game IU is, and as they say, they are doing it for selfish reasons: Recruiting! Remember, IU's fan base is huge and in every State! https://www.idsnews.com/article/2021/06/legislation-or-not-iu-is-ready-to-give-athletes-competitive-brand-building-edge-nil

  41. Already seeing IU players online selling themselves to Rep. for companies. I still wouldnt want an 18 or 19 year old kid as the face of my business. A talking head thinks more product swapping will take place more than money changing hands. Like come do a tv spot for my dealership and i'll give you a car lease for a year, things like that.

  44. IU's hires were not all swings and misses Davis was a called strike right down the middle and he was injured slapping himself on the head. As he lay prone on the ground, the catcher hovered over him and said 'Help is on the way'. Enter Sampson, After taking 3 pitches outside the zone to run the count to 3-1, Kelvin got ejected by the umpire due to a rules interpretation by arguing strike 2. Dakich was announced as the pinch hitter for Sampson only to be removed when there was a pitching change Crean fouled off 9 straight pitches, Many of them were dribblers around the plate, but a few were ripped down the line, One, in particular, appeared to be a sure home run, but it fell in the 'zone' just outside the foul pole. With the count 3-2, and Crean worn out and beat down from all his efforts, Archie was called off the bench to save the day. He responded with one of those huge swings that misses by a foot where the batter falls down on the follow through.
