  1. The bolded part is why people give Purdue fans crap. Cooper would be your highest rated recruit this year, higer than anybody last year, and the 2nd highest in the previous class. He would have been the 11th highest rated recruit ever for PU on 247. He's also from Indiana, and has family ties to PU. Purdue didn't back off of him. He lost interest in PU. It happens to every school every year. Let's just call a spade a spade and not pull the PU backed off card.

  3. The guy that came to mind for me, obviously, was Carsen Edwards. He literally might have made more money his senior year with NIL, coming off that insane NCAA run, than he did as an early 2nd round pick. I think if you’re a guaranteed first rounder you still go, but this adds some complexity to the equation.

  4. Not only the money, but being a borderline late 1st or early 2nd round pick, you might be more willing to stay another year because being a 2nd rounder could "hurt" your brand at that point. While the difference financially between late 1st and early 2nd isn't that different anymore, there is still some perception value there.

  5. Yeah I personally want no part of him on the Pacers but that is definitely the minimum his value would be IMO.

  6. Stuff like this is what I can really support. Treating it like a business. Thanks for posting the intel. I said this a few pages ago but I think there's a chance there might be some unintended benefits of the NIL as well. Let's say your a borderline draft pick in football or hoops. Would you stay in school another year, make your $, graduate,etc....instead of going the undrafted route to the pros? So many really good football players leave a year early because their families have zero $. This system might make those kids think twice about heading to the pros if they can make good $ in college.

  7. She's expected to make $2 million or more this year. She's also very smart. Here are some (but not all) of the Instagram names she registered, so "Fan Pages" don't clutter her brand. She did this 10 months ago. This is what running a company looks like.

  8. I wouldn't think that would be about Cooper since there is a timeline for when he'll commit.

  10. I completely understand why Ohio State is top three, but then I look at their projected starters and ours and can't figure out why we can't be in that same upper echelon of the conference next season?

  11. UK giving pay raises enticing "student-athletes" with their facilities and educational prowess is going to happen anyway. If it makes those orange and blue bastards cry a little....well, that makes it at least somewhat enjoyable. Also, with all this conversation about Cockburn.....what ever happened to old Isaac Haas?

  12. To be honest i am with you on this. I don't want the Pacers to waste anything substanial on this guy. He would have one foot out the door in record time if he was traded to the Pacers. On 76ers boards they think he wants to get to L.A. and the fact that he just bought a house there means they might actually be right. Also he is pretty much the same player as he was as a rookie with minimal improvement, so I would say no thank to a trade for him.

  13. Oh..no doubt it's going to take either another all-star caliber player or starters plus picks to get it done. I fully understand his value (potential) in being a 24 yr old multi-all star/multi all-nba defensive player that is like 6'11 and can handle the ball, pass, and defend 1-5. Personally I just don't think this guy LOVES basketball like you want your star player to LOVE the game and the process of maximizing one's ability to reach greatness. This guy is about the NBA lifestyle...loves what the NBA avails to him. I don't get the sense this is a guy that will ever be as great as he could be if he put in the work. I'd just rather make different moves if we are going to.

  14. Yeah, I wasn't advocating for the Pacers to trade for Simmons. I was just saying Brogdon and a 1st rounder for Simmons 8s not an unrealistic deal and the Pacers, if they wanted him, would not get him for less than that.

  15. Yep. Guys like Troy Williams or JB Jr come to mind. Again I have no clue what dollar amounts kids will make until this thing is up and running for a couple years.

  16. I look at it like this. Big fish small pond. Let's use TJD. All-B1G, possibly National Player of the Year candidate but even if you go to the nba you may be just a 2nd round pick based on your skill set, age, size etc It might be possible that you are worth more with the media attention, spotlight, name recognition in college basketball playing on a stage like IU or say a Duke/UNC/UK/KU where you are still on sports center, still getting lots of viewers and lots of attention in media and can see $$ benefit where you are. If you go to the NBA right away you might end up in the g-league or on two way contract or sitting on the bench maybe getting 4-5 mins a night. You may have your salary but little to no marketing ability. You go to the NBA and now you are little minnow in a huge ocean compared to the sharks like KD/LEBRON/CP3 etc. You aren't getting a State Farm commercial....but at IU....maybe you get an Indiana Farm Bureau spot on the radio, internet, or local tv. Maybe not the best example but you catch my drift. Of course if you are good enough to be a lottery or a lock for 1st round pick your game and you are probably ready to make that jump...but if you are a second round guy who isn't assured what your future with the team will look like for a couple years until you are ready to contribute...maybe hanging around and cleaning up and building your brand a little with the NIL will benefit you!

  18. I wanna preface this by saying I want our lineup as constituted ( that we never got to see because of injuries last year ) to have at least half a season because I think as far as small market lineups go brogdon lavert Warren Turner sabonis could be dangerous enough to have a shot. IF we made a trade though, which I don’t want , I’m with kob and BG on this one …..Simmons value even after the mess in the playoffs is at minimum brogdon and a first. I also think that as you all pointed out brogdon warren and lavert aren’t perennial all stars but they are all one level below that and they all slash and shoot from all spots on the floor …subtracting one of the three , in this case brogdon , for a player who only shoots open lay ups and short shots adds extra touches for the other two. Ben’s defense and passing could make for an interesting starting five and yes he can’t shoot the three and our other four wouldn’t be three point specialists but they are all four capable enough they have to be defended on the arc so it’s not like defenses can sag and pack against it. I think it would be interesting to see Simmons and sabonis play together when they both pass as welL As they do

  25. Same. My despise for Cal is surpassed by my hatred for all things Illini. It's their whole operation. Getting smacked by Loyola, losing assistants, transfers.....Coach Squarehead has his work in front of him. From what I've been told besides the Miller, Kofi announcements....there might be one more this summer too.

  29. I don't go anywhere near anything that's heavily Reddit-ed period. Those things have the volatility of 3 of 5fouls' ex wives. The stock I shorted is actually KMPH, which I mentioned above. Been long on it for about 6 months. But, it has an extremely reliable daily pattern. For the past 3-4 weeks, it takes a morning dip, hovers about 5-6% down until 10-11AM, then bounces. It's actually freaky how reliable it is. It's probably people doing exactly what I did. And yes, no big plans on using any of that leverage on a significant basis, I mostly just wanted to see the mechanics of it. All I really wanted the margin account for was being able to trade on unsettled cash without worrying about good faith violations.

  31. So the signals say us right? Going to have to get used to this idea of consistently getting 4 star recruits....as well as flipping Ohio St commits....and getting transfers from Florida St, Texas A&M, Auburn, Michigan....haha. Whole new world. Thank you Tom Allen and Staff! Now it's our turn as fans. That stadium better be sold out this fall. Tell your friends and neighbors. Just go buy tickets.

  33. More than likely. I hate that Cal is using Illinois as a feeder program though. 2 top recruiters and more than likely Kofi.

  34. This is probably what made Kofi withdraw from the draft. He probably wasn't going to be drafted high so now he can go to Couch Burning U and make some money and work on his game to maybe improve his draft stock.

  44. I'm not suggesting actual donations. If I'm a booster that would normally donate a million bucks to the athletic department, that no longer seems like the best way to help my team win. Now, instead of doing that, I create a website for IU fans. I put that million dollars towards paying players so that I can put their pictures on my site, maybe have them come into my chat board once a month and answer some questions. Those things will help build my site. I doubt I will recoup my million, but that was never my goal. I'm not suggesting a not for profit company, I'm suggesting a company that is set us as a regular old for profit enterprise, but that will most likely fail at ever generating a profit. There's not a law against being a bad businessman.
