  1. I have connections at LaLumiere so hopefully I can get some intel on how this recruitment will shake up.

  3. I'll throw this in here because it's kind of NFL related. For those that don't know Colts owner Jim Irsay gives away tens of thousands of $ each week on twitter contests. Welp after years of entering I finally won. Going to take a group of disadvantaged East Indy area men/women to a great meal down the road. I also chose His Place Eatery at 30th and Shadeland because owner is Caleb Jones (IU Tackle) parents....wanted to help out IU or him too. I know Irsay gets some heat on stuff but his philanthropy is unmatched in NFL owners world. Indy is lucky to have him and his daughters.

  4. This is his second visit. His dad has said very positive things in the past. He is probably my favorite recruit in 2023. He had me at competitor, tough D, and floor general. I also would be very happy to get a top player from Illinois. it is fertile recruiting ground that is nearby that we can hit hard. I would love to see an early commitment his junior year so we can go into next summer with a top player (or two, e.g., Kaleb Glenn), and leverage the momentum. The pied piper effect.

  5. It is that time of year again. Help me in trying to raise awareness for those with Mitochondrial Disease. As most of you know my 14 year old son Ayden was diagnosed with Mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome when he was a little over 2 years old. At that point he had been searching for an answer for close to 18 months on what was going on with his body. We were told to enjoy each day and that he would not make it to 3 years old. The Dr at the Cleveland Clinic told us that he would start to lose his sight and hearing, then use of his arms and legs that his body would shut down anything not needed for survival. His organs would begin to shut down and he would go to sleep and just not wake up one day. On January 11 2010 we were given a death sentence but by GODS grace and a miracle Ayden is here and doing amazing things. We are entering a new chapter in his life and one with much uncertainty. When kids with Mitochondrial disease hit puberty and hormones take over some crazy things can happen. Many at that age end up being in wheel chairs or needed some type of assistance for mobility. I want to thank GOD and all of HSN for all the prayers over the years, and for the platform that you have allowed me to share these things. I just read something that really gave a great analogy to what people with Mitochondrial Disease go through on a daily basis. It says that it is like having your smart phone battery getting really low. Some of the apps work fine but some slow down, don't function properly or at all. The Mitochondrial of the cell is what give the cell power and these Mito warriors have issues with that. For Ayden it is usually fatigue, low muscle tone, constant body aches, and low immunity. Please help me to make more people aware Of Mitochondrial Awareness. Please feel free to take a look at https://www.umdf.org/mitochondrial-disease-awareness-week-2021/ to more about this terrible disease. This week I wear green for MY HERO, MY SON, MY MITO WARRIOR AYDEN!!!!!!!!!! Thank you and GOD BLESS

  6. I feel ya, my friend. I hate it and really thought we would be over it by now. And taking a break in Brown County feels like heaven to me now. This isn’t COVID-related or anything, but thought people would like it and maybe lighten the mood around here a bit. I posted a headphone amp for sale on Craigslist and a guy reached out to me to come and see it. We exchanged phone numbers and started texting. He had a 317 area code and I was like, “wait that’s familiar.” The guy moved here to NYC three years ago from Zionsville. Also lived close to where we did by Luna Music before we lived downtown. Both he and his wife went to IU - same as my wife and I. He apologized for not having his IU hat on today. Hell, he might be on this board! Just thought that was one of those small world things.

  7. I'm really interested in seeing what we have in Jordan Geronimo at the end of the season. I'm not expecting him to explode from Day 1. But, by the end of the year, I think there will be a buzz about him, not only among Hoosier fans, but possibly across Big Ten country, and as a player to keep an eye on nationally going into next year.

  8. Lander is going to be an interesting one to follow. He'll definitely get a chance to show what he can do, but I do wonder how quickly that chance will come and what it will look like next season? It does say something that he hardly played at all on the Bahamas trip. I know the new staff has a lot to get up to speed with since they're completely new and there are new players, etc., but it does seem to say something that he hardly played. On Galloway and Leal, I completely agree. I like both and am glad both are with IU. With that said, it says a lot about where the program was and Archie's recruiting that a guy like Galloway as a freshmen was starting at times and played nearly 20mpg. Again, i think he has the chance to be a really good player, don't get me wrong, but at a healthy, contending program (Michigan, MSU, Villanova, etc.) a guy like Galloway as a freshmen is sitting and learning, mostly getting mop up duty, not starting playing 20mpg.

  9. Proven? Sure, masks, social distancing and vaccines. Especially these three together. I know you are not a fan of any of those, but they do work if people use them. Look at deaths, hospitalizations, and positivity rates in states that don’t embrace them. Idaho is at 43.7%, Mississippi at 34.4%. Deaths are surging in these places, and the hospitalizations are crushing healthcare workers in many regions. The states with the lowest positivity rates, hospitalizations, and deaths are all NE states that embrace masks, social distancing, and vaccination. The states struggling largely embrace individual freedom over a healthy society. The densest, most populous city in the US (NYC) has a positivity rate that’s been hovering between 1-4% for the last six months, currently at 3%. Everyone knows we got hammered in the beginning, before we knew what worked. Made a lot of mistakes, but after that initial surge, our rates have been VERY low. Why? Because we have been very strict about wearing masks indoors, social distancing, and we have a high vaccination rate. Our population density means we are always packed together - in buildings (mine has 75 units sharing an elevator), on subways, on buses, and on sidewalks. You would think that would make controlling spread difficult. There are a lot of us, but we mostly decided to make some sacrifices for the greater good of the people around us. Life is vibrant here - sidewalk and street dining are packed every day. New restaurants and stores are popping up. We go about our lives as we did before, w/o much worry about COVID. Outdoor dining has transformed neighborhoods, many more people are out and about biking, summer streets were extended year around (streets shut down to car traffic on weekends). We do mask up indoors, but that’s just smart. Subways are packed, but people wear masks. This really isn’t rocket science - we don’t have to scour the internet for fringe treatments and studies to prove our pet theories, if we simply do these things. History also tells us this is how many plagues and pandemics are ultimately ended.

  12. Just frustrated by it all. It just feels like it will never end. I guess almost 2 years of hearing the same things on repeat wears you out. I am a fan of the social distancing though. The weather cools off soon. Think I will go to Brown County SP for a day and leave the phone behind.

  13. I'll just say this... Last year the predicted order of finish for the top 8 in the B1G by Lindy's was... Wisconsin Iowa Illinois Michigan State Ohio State Rutgers Indiana Michigan Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports had them like this... 1. Iowa 2. Wisconsin 3. Illinois 4. Michigan State 5. Rutgers 6. Ohio State 7. Indiana 8. Michigan 9. Purdue 10. Maryland 11. Penn State 12. Minnesota 13. Nebraska 14. Northwestern Actual order of finish... Michigan Illinois Iowa Purdue OSU Wisconsin Rutgers Maryland MSU Indiana Penn St Northwestern Minnesota Nebraska Notice anything? Based on the 2019-2020 standings, they had totally ignored Michigan...Who had brought in Grad transfers Mike Smith (PG) and Chaundee Brown (SG/SF) and landed an impact Freshman (Dickinson)...The other crucial parts of their team (Livers, Brooks, Wagner, and Davis) were already there... Purdue was underrated too.... I'm just saying...we've added 3 grad transfers that addressed need (shooting, frontcourt depth), and what I think is an impact freshman...Plus the maturation/development of the players we already had here...I see a lot of parallels... I guess the wildcard is Coach Woody...And I'm very optimistic on his ability to coach college kids and win at a high level in the B1G... I say underrate us at your peril...

  17. I would say all three won't play much if they can't play d. They all have capable offensive games, but if they can't keep anyone in front of them, then they'll be riding the pine. Lander has to take it to the hole WAY more. He seemed to force threes or pass every time. I understand he needs to improve his shot, but I don't understand why he was only using his speed to pass.

  18. Some people get it! Oklahoma Restaurant-goers Donate to the “Giving Wall” to Feed Hungry Several restaurants in Oklahoma have adopted the practice of what’s been called a “receipt wall” or “giving wall” to help get meals to those in need. Here’s how it works: Customers and even do-gooders from other states can prepay for a meal and leave the receipt for it on the wall. Then, those who are hungry but don’t have the funds can come in and choose a receipt from the wall to receive their free meal. It’s believed that the practice first began at the Miami, Oklahoma-based hot dog joint The Dawg House. Owner Jennifer White taped the first receipt up on the wall to help those who had been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and those who were homeless — the wall was plastered with receipts for meals within eight hours. By April of this year, more than 600 free meals had been donated at The Dawg House. Seeing the need, other establishments like Hi-way Café, Montana Mike’s Steakhouse, and Zack’s Café got involved. Beth Hillburn, the owner of the Hi-Way Café along Route-66, recounts a couple who came in three times within the last week of a month — when funds are typically scarcer for those who live paycheck-to-paycheck — apologizing for using the receipts. A week later, she says, they came back and donated to the wall because their economic situation had improved.

  22. I’ll add the traveling Vietnam Wall memorial. The wall itself was a moving site, but the scene surrounding it even more so. You can’t help but feel the pain when you see some of the toughest looking men you’ve ever seen reduced to publicly sobbing on the ground at the sight of a name carved in black granite. There is also something admirable. Individuals from all walks of life: corporate execs to outlaw bikers, every race, religion, ethnicity imaginable….if you wore a uniform and know a name on that wall, there was only one word used….”brother”.

  24. Took a look at the Cincinnati message boards. They by and large seem to be very confident, borderline arrogant, that they are going to win this game by a comfortable margin. I see a lot of citations of their stats and how their offense and defense ranks, completely disregarding that nearly all of those stats come against far, far inferior opponents than teams like IU or Iowa face day in and day out. Cincinnati is a really good team, and they may very well beat us, but OSU, PSU, or Iowa they are not. I think for the first time in my life as an IU football fan, I can say this will also be the most hostile crowd any of the Cincinnati players have played in front of in the last two years.

  25. Vegas is not trying to predict who wins. They create a point spread they hope drives 1/2 of the bets to be placed with one team and 1/2 of the bets with the other team. If the bet money is evenly split then Vegas is a no risk sure winner because of the juice (vig) they get. They don’t adjust the spread during the week because they think a team has a better chance to win or lose but rather to help drive more bets to a team that “needs” more bets in order to balance the action towards the desired 50/50 balance.

  26. I gave my wife 3 choices for her birthday, the IU UC game, Colts vs Rams game or whatever she wants. This weekend I will be the DD going to about a dozen wineries. Not that it is a bad time by any stretch but its not choices 1 or 2 for sure. Going to try and get her trashed at 1st winery in Nashville and trick her into tailgating in Bloomington.

  32. Just an observation from last year... I thought Galloway was a much better on the ball defender than Leal, even though at times he was overmatched... I thought Leal did a good job in the passing lanes and anticipation though that didn't really fit into Archie's defensive scheme from what I've read... Coach Woody seems to embrace both good man up defense and playing for turnovers...it will be interesting to see how he uses each kid...

  33. I don't see us going 11 deep. Seems to me that if Leal wants playing time, he is going to either have to take it from Kopp or Stewart. If Galloway wants it, he is going to have to shoot.

  34. I agree completely and my post was aimed at no one at all. I just believe its a valid assessment of where were are this year. New Coach, new player and some returning player from a less than successful team the last couple years. 7th is right about where i expect us to be. I would love to be a top 4 team this year but i won't be surprised to be more around the 6-8 spot.

  35. I am a sucker for a real stitched on number authentic jersey. I would buy an IU one yesterday if I could. In general not only am I not impressed by the adidas shirt offers I find most shirts on fanatics are made cheaply. I buy all my IU apparel from Homefield: https://www.homefieldapparel.com/collections/indiana-university-iu-hoosiers-store I got one of the Watford shirts from them a few years ago and the quality is fantastic, plus super soft. I refuse to buy any IU gear from fanatics anymore. Also the Homefield company was started by IU grads. I would also state I bought some Nike gear this summer for an MLB game and the quality was quite good and that site is run by Fanatics so to me whoever the maker of the product is important.

  37. A had a previous home with a flat roof over one room. I thought I'd use a white coating to help reflect some heat. I'm sure it was better than the typical black coating but after a month it was all dirty from the water that would pool there and all the dirt and debris that accumulated. The bright white didn't last long at all.

  39. You forgot that he would play very few minutes avg 3 to 5 points a game 1 rebound .2 assists .5 steals etc. in his first couple years but somehow seeing an IU jersey turns him into an all American player dropping 30 on us wit 8 rebounds 7 assists 3 steals and shooting 7 of 10 from 3 point range.

  41. This game is huge on so many levels… *win this and Iowa is a faded memory. *the sporting nation does not completely believe the IU story. Win this noon game on ESPN and our defeat of the number 8 team in the nation will be nationally highlighted all day and night on ESPN, highlights/recaps etc *a win would solidify our recruits belief that Allen has the train rolling. There might be a little bit of doubt if we get smoked by both Iowa and Cincy in our first 3 games. Want the Florida/southern guys to feel they made the right choice and show the Indiana kids (HELLO Mr. Curry) that the last 2 years were not a fluke. *it will keep the mojo going with the team and program. *Crowds….47k for Idaho was exceptional especially when you consider that we were blown out by Iowa and there were very few Idaho fans in attendance (ie we did not depend on 12k from UM,OSU etc). Beating Cincy will help keep the students interested and with future single game ticket sales. I’m pretty confident our defense will keep Cincy contained but am concerned about our offense, especially Penix and the OL. What a 180 degree difference from years past when we could score a ton but were unable to stop anyone. Can’t wait for Saturday.

  44. Sigh. This is pretty much the deal with any paper or any legitimate study. There is a limitations section. Legitimate researchers are trained to constantly question their results. And often over-emphasize the limitations or issues with a study, so when it’s peer reviewed they may head off some of the critiques and comments. The peer review process can be brutal. So, the CDC must include every word in a press release, but Joe Rogan, Podcast Pete, or Tucker Carlson can selectively quote things and mislead the public and that’s cool. Got it. I have to admit, this thread is difficult for me. I work with researchers, some of the best in the world. I trust them. I do not trust Podcast Pete or on air personalities. In the end, science will be proven right, and the treatment of the day/week pushers will long be forgotten about. I get it, many people on here don’t trust science. But, damn it’s depressing. I also get that many people don’t trust politicians. I am with you. Am sick of them all. Mostly just sick of people constantly questioning proven ways to reduce the spread of this virus. I also just simply don’t have the time to scour the internet all day b/c someone is wrong on the internet.

  48. I do not know the individuals or much other than this just came my way from our men's prayer group wanted to share here as well to those faithful prayer warriors. A miracle is needed. We wanted to put a central place to be able to give updates and share prayer requests. I don’t ever want to deny our sweet boy the power of prayer over his life. Right now we have a pretty big need for prayer and miracle power at work in his healing. Hayes has a bleed on both sides of his brain. They are pretty severe a stage 4 on one side ( out of a total 4) and the other a stage 3. So far the white matter of the Brain ( what would determine if he has future developmental impact or not) is still really well intact, which is hopeful. Our nurse helped us know exactly what the prayer needs to be. She said be praying specifically that 1) the blood would absorb/ shrink 2) the swelling on his brain would be stable. 3)That there are no developments effects. In a lot of ways this feels like a “too big” to overcome issue, but We know we have a BIG God with big plans for this little mans life. We appreciate each person taking time to bring him to the feet of Jesus.
