  1. I just share what I am told. Not trying to lead people along. Isn't that what message boards are for? If he goes to Bama, so be it. I'll continue to share what is told to me. A lot of it comes from players on the team. We will know this afternoon. I still have hope.

  2. On Friday I was still hearing good things. Stayed away from all non family things until Sunday night. I was as shocked as everyone once I checked a few messages. I text a friend that confirmed NC was gone. We coukd not have been in a better position to land him. Like others have said almost every thing I hear from outbid state recruits are from people close to Indiana basketball. In state multiple outlets for info. Hate to lose him but I won't stop posting what I hear and I always say what I think at that moment. If it changes so be it.

  3. Perspective. Since Mike Woodson was hired: 1. Reclaimed 5 players from the portal, including pre-season All-American, TJD. 2. Retained Kenya Hunter 3. Added former Hoosier and elite assistant Dane Fife 4. Hired Yasir Rosemond, who has already brought in 2 ATL-area recruits 5. Retained commitments from Logan Duncomb and CJ Gunn 6. Has rebuilt numerous bridges with former Hoosiers 7. Swiped Tamar Bates from Texas upon departure of Shaka Smart 8. Landed Kaleb Banks 9. Landed Jalen Hood-Schifino 10. Landed Jakai Newton 11. Portal add: Xavier Johnson 12. Portal add: Michael Durr 13. Portal add: Miller Kopp All this in just one off-season. Noah Clowney would have been nice to have, but we are rolling…and the season is a week away. LFG.

  5. Easy to get a consensus when there's only two people on their basketball board!

  6. Either way, I have full confidence that this staff will pull a solid big out of the portal to go along with Durr and Duncomb next season.

  7. I challenge this entire premise, insiders should not have some magical shield that makes them immune to criticism. we had people telling us for weeks Clowney was going to IU. Yes, he’s a high school kid and high school kids change their minds. but when you make definitive statements, while knowing these are high school kids, you are setting yourself up for criticism. It is what it is, no one knows the full story but if you pass on wrong information it’s going to get called out regardless of what led to your info being wrong. Obviously no one needs to go for the throat and be an asshole about it, but if you attach your name to definitive statements as an insider, I don’t think it’s fair to expect no one to question you when it doesn’t hit.

  8. I don't know who Cavanagh is. But makes sense. Players thought Noah was coming. That's about as good of intel I can get.

  9. We appreciate you and your info. Thanks!

  10. The problem in these situations is always that the insiders here are connected to the program, not to the player. So their inside info is only as good as who they are getting it from. If people inside the program feel good about a recruit, it doesn't actually mean that the recruit is coming, just that the staff feels good about it. The real info of value comes from the player's camp. We rarely have that here. Edit: I don't mean that as a knock on any of the insiders, just that I always take what I hear here lightly for that reason.

  11. I agree...the guys who are bringing information to this board are doing the best they can. They aren't just blowing smoke. Kids change their mind all the time, its not the posters fault. If it bothers you that much, then don't come here to read about what is happening, especially since you apparently don't believe it anyways. I am thankful for the guys who give their input and intel into this board.

  12. Relax guys, Clowney just found out that TJD is coming back next year and didn't want to play behind him.

  13. Justin Smith played at Arkansas for Eric Musselman you're right about Smith's role in the Arkansas offense though lol

  14. So if we don’t get Noah, we’ll move on to the next one…..I have WAY more confidence in our ENTIRE coaching staff, their abilities and what they individually bring to this program than any from the previous group. I will continue to say this till I’m blue in the face,……. as soon as a desired recruit decides against committing and playing for this storied program, I could care less about him.

  16. I want to be very careful here, I don't mean this to criticize the people that bring info to the board, and I hope all of those people continue to post as always. With that said, I challenge the premise that we actually have "insiders". By no means am I saying those guys are lying or anything like that, I believe they hear things, etc., I just don't think those things are all that real or close to the actual team. I share this every now and then, but when I was in the Celtics PR Department it was at the advant of fan websites, blogs and forums. So part of my job was to monitor that stuff, and I would literally gather around my desk with co-workers every so often and laugh out loud at what the so-called "insiders" on those sites were posting as if it was fact. Again, I love our posters that bring info, and I believe many of them have some type of connections and hear things, but I think those things are much more removed from what is really happening. It's like the telephone game and guys are pretty far down the line.

  17. Fife is awesome. I think he will be well suited to be the next coach as the program is finally on proper footing. He is a coach's son, and has been around Knight and Izzo. He is loyal to Woodson. His personality is great for a coach. He is very thoughtful about his craft. In the interview, I really liked what he said about rebounding (how we shouldn't get outrebounded and that he got that from Izzo). He pointed out free throw shooting is vital because the games are tight. Overall, I think Fife compares very favorably to guys like Jon Scheyer or Hubert Davis who are taking over high profile programs. He is going to be well set up here, and we can even benefit from his exposure to Izzo.

  20. I get the impression you are mad at yourself for getting overly excited over rumors. My suggestion, just keep your eye open for commitments. I got irritated when the southern Indiana kid who is going to be a freshmen this year picked Purdue. I stopped reading this particular forum so much because at the end of the day, I cannot even remember the guy's name off the top of my head. Getting worked up over this stuff just is not worth it at all.

  21. In our neighborhood the adults hand out beer lol. I was in the double digits when I stopped counting how many offers I got when I was out with my little girl. Don't get me wrong...I appreciated the thought...but one has to wonder if I took one every time if I would have even ended up at home with the right kid....or the right home...or any kid at all?!! lol Florida does have the stand your ground law so that could be dangerous lol

  23. If someone's message is continually getting misinterpreted or a group of people the message is intended for isn't receiving it as intended, then it is squarely the responsibility of the one delivering the message. It's not our job to decipher what someone "actually meant". It's not our job to deduce what "done deal" is supposed to mean or not mean. Say what you mean, and mean what you say.

  25. Not sure what changed or happened but oh well. If there's one thing I'm not worried about with this staff it's recruiting. If a kid thinks Bama is his best route over THIS staff? Cool... Onto the next.

  27. I don’t get too wrapped up in info, speculation, predictions, etc. Even when things are called “locks” I understand that recruiting sometimes takes an ex-lax to get unlocked. Keep bringing the info everyone. Makes the board fun.

  29. I think we’ve learned now with Garland, Kaufman, and possibly Clowney, that you just never no until the end. But like everyone says, transfer portal fixes this right up. Really not a huge loss. Disappointing- sure. But nothing like losing out on guys in years past. IU has one of the best staff of coaches in college now. They’ll find one kid to replace him.

  30. Bright side and I think it may be a brighter side, it to take a grown man transfer with 2ish years of eligibility. People are going to want to come play for Coach Woodson. He's going to have no problem filling a roster. I'd probably prefer transfers over anyone outside of top 70.

  31. There are 3 levels of "Insiders" 1. Somehow some way connected to someone currently in the program. They probably keep things very close to the vest if they ever say anything that is given to them at all. 2. People that rub elbows with big money boosters. They pay big money to get as close to the program as possible and ask questions and then tell their buddies and it eventually makes it here, likely 2nd or 3rd hand. 3. Then those connected to said player. In state we may have a better chance at having a family insider. When these guys tell us what they are hearing, its likely 2nd, 3rd, or 4th hand from scenario 2. So lighten up and be thankful that we hear anything at all. Right or wrong.

  32. The burden absolutely falls on the reader. This is a message board not The NY Times. This is the internet. Again if people can’t handle speculation don’t come to the recruiting message board. Everyone who has visited this thread the last couple days, it is because they want to hear any early information they can get. Otherwise they’d wait til Monday. Also, Noah hasn’t committed yet. So people are mad about speculation and rumors that don’t align with the speculation and rumors previously. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  33. No one makes people get on this board. If you don’t want to hear the scoop, don’t get on. Stop complaining about the information that is shared on here.

  34. Nothing really changed. He loved IU but Bama blew him away and Oats has been winning big. Woodson hasn't coached a game yet. Need to win big this season.

  36. Kind of funny story I have about AH: Sometime in the late 80's I had an appointment with my doctor. He was an older guy who graduated from IU med. I mentioned that I was going to Bloomington for the game that night after the appointment. He said "I haven't been to the new fieldhouse yet" lol. I figured he didn't have much interest in the basketball program. Then he says he could get tickets if he wanted from a close friend he and his wife frequently went to dinner with. Turned out the family friend was Hilda Van Arsdale (Knight would have given her prime seats anytime she wanted them).

  39. Why do we have this same crap about info when a kid goes to another school? Kids change at the last min. all the time. If you have to complain about it every time keep your but off message boards. Edited for language: BGleas

  40. I just don't feel that anyone on here actually has real inside sources. If anyone on the inside of the program is actually talking to outside people about recruiting they should be fired.

  43. Would you be happy with 9/23 which is 39 percent which would have led the big ten. It is funny I saw some complain about the 3 point shooting in a scrimmage game. The difference is one more made in the game to be considered good shooting.

  44. Great post, pretty much agree with everything. Like I've said, I love our people that come and share information and I hope they all continue to do so. I think it's great! I just would recommend that they are more clear in their communication, etc. Then for the rest of us, I'd recommend we all understand that the "inside info" that we get here is more "info" than it is "inside". Even if you know a big money booster, the coaches aren't telling them much that is actually real. Again, I go back to my Celtics example. It all has to be taken with a massive grain of salt. But people that share info, please do not stop sharing. Most understand what you post isn't meant to be gospel, it's all for fun and enjoying this community.

  46. ...and I tend to believe that the sources here are probably pretty good ones. If this changed, it likely changed after the Alabama visit. Makes no sense it would have changed earlier and I suspect the staff felt very good about this recruit...at least until recently. That being said, I think Rabjohns is pretty well connected, despite the Darius Garland fiasco (which I'm sure made him even more careful). The fact that he's leaning pretty hard toward Alabama is impossible to ignore. Maybe it's a huge bit of misdirection, but if it is, sounds like Clowney has fooled a lot of people. Based on everything I'm reading today, sounds like IU made a tremendous impression and nearly sealed the deal...until Alabama got the last word. It is what it is. I'm glad the staff is swinging for quality and I won't criticize them for missing since you can't get them all anyway. Likewise, I won't criticize posters who bring perspectives at least somewhat close to the program when they are wrong and/or a kid changes his mind. Again...it is what it is. As I said earlier, I'm just ready to get past Monday and get to the season.
