  1. To me the fans at the game yesterday who booed Johnson was embarrassing. Even though he was not playing well there is no need for that.

  2. I'm loving all the positive energy after a P5 win.😝 Holy hell, it wasn't the best game but we won and if you can't see the improvement in defense and shooting compared to the last few years, I know a couple guys named Harry and Lloyd from Rhode Island that will sell you a parakeet with its head ducked taped on while they drive a dog van to Sunny Aspen in winter looking for a Readhead named Samsonite. Holy shit, where's the Tylenol. Honestly, what the hell do some of you expect?

  3. For those banging on XJ, you know that attitude that this team hasn’t had in the last few years, that kind of edgy, bulldog sort of thing? Yeah, XJ has that, and so does Parker. It’s refreshing to see, and I’m ok with Parker getting a tech while sending a bit of a message. Elsewhere, i think we just need to improve our offensive IQ a bit. There were some really dumb shots and decisions made - multiple deep 3s taken early in the shot clock, the sloppy TOs, etc. The plus is that these can be cleaned up/fixed this season, so let’s see what this coaching staff can do. If anything, I’m excited to see how this team develops during the rest of the season. Kind of an ugly W, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good W.

  4. I like this post. I have stopped coming here as much and try not to post much due to the wrong posters dominating this board, but I think you make a great point. There are people who think if you say anything negative you "aren't a real fan." There are people who are always negative. I consider myself a diehard fan who is generally guarded/pessimistic with my expectations/outlook. One thing that annoys me is when everyone gets super excited when we beat terrible teams easily or when we beat a lower level P5 team that is .500 and declare Woodson has gotten us back! Then the same people turn around and act like we are terrible when we lose to a good team. Gotta consider we who play each game. Unfortunately we are an average P5 team. Are we headed the right direction? I sure hope so. I think so personally. Am I ready to say Woodson has turned us around in less than a year? Of course not. Do I think we would have had very similar results thus far with CAM? Yeah, I do. Do I wish we still had him? Of course not. Just my opinions and I will watch every game and cheer for Old IU regardless.

  5. That entire sequence was absurd. The T on Stewart was awful. I also thought it was really weird how earlier in the game Race was called for an awful foul, and Brando went on and on about how these are veteran refs and they'll T him up so fast and for even the slightest thing. It was really weird and Brando was saying it like it was a good thing or something.

  6. What I saw today was KL being engaged, laughing and congratulating his teammates on time outs. I know that this is a forum to discuss and debate, but it gets old really fast hearing the same stuff from the same people

  7. Fun to see IU win a game in person. Been a while for me. Went to the Colts game too. Just think Scott we could have bumped into each other and not known it. 😋

  8. Imagine how much better we will be when we get Tamar Bates, and Galloway back. A bunch of Negative Nancy's think this team sucks. Honestly, I'm asking those negatives, what are your expectations? This team will mature and I believe will surprise us.

  9. Jesus Scott, how have you not figured out that its an Internet Fan Forum. FFS, we all know we can't affect anything. But we come here to discuss what is on our mind concerning IU basketball. We like to bounce ideas and thoughts off of other fans to see if our thoughts and ideas have merit. No one is right or wrong most of the time. We all understand that. Most of us can separate sports from life and a loss or a win doesn't affect our day to day lives. Maybe stop telling people how to post or how to be fans. either Discuss the topics or ignore. You don't need to tell everyone they are wrong or how to be part of the group. I am not trying to be an ass but man, it gets tough always reading you telling me or anyone we're bad fans or idiots for posting something on here. We're not you man. We don't think like you and probably never will. Just enjoy the discussion or move on and ignore it.

  10. Hard to improve much when your best PG is essentially Devonte Newkirk.

  13. Excellent point and post... Dude, you're on a roll...having a "right" poster, @NCHoosier32 and a "wrong" poster (me) compliment your posts in 2 pages is quite a feat!

  14. You congratulate yourself on a win for 2 minutes, then spend the next 48 hours pouring over the things you did wrong until the next game. It's how winners get better. You don't pat yourself on the back for days on end until the next game. You say great job guys. Now, where can we get better? XJ, stop shooting a 3pt shot 5 seconds into the shot clock when we have better shooters on the floor, go downhill and dish. Stewart/Kopp, stop standing around and watching basketball, get yourself open and ready for a shot. TJD, stop holding the ball out away from you with 1 hand and making one handed baseball passes. Rob, stop dribbling the ball into the floor and do something productive and get to the hole or the elbow where you're a much better shooter. Lander (in practice), get your ass in front of your guy and play lock down defense or you will never see the floor during a game. I would be more concerned if everyone on this board was super happy with they play we have seen so far instead of happy we have some wins but concerned with what issues we have seen.

  15. There's only 12 teams in the country (out of 360ish) shooting that percentage so far this season. So, that's hardly an indictment against the team And, for the record, we aren't exactly chopped liver. 49 out of 360ish is what, something like the 86th percentile?

  16. Brown scored 6 points in 4 minutes, so his per 40 numbers are 60 ppg 😉

  17. I think Parker Stewart is a great shooter...when he's stepping into it, it's almost automatic... Our problem as I see it (and those with more knowledge of the intricacies of the game can chime in) is teams are going to dare our point guards to shoot while sticking to our 2 more reliable outside shooters...I thought both TJD and Race did a good job of passing out of the double team at the end, but could only find Rob or XJ with their man sagging 10 feet off of them...I know XJ's 3 numbers are good now, but with the tighter defense of the Big 10, that water will find its level... We have to get Stewart more than 4 shots a game...as of right now he's 27-54 from 3...right at 50% BTW, Illinois only beat the Irish by 10 in that dump in Champaign...

  22. When: Wednesday, December 22nd 7 PM EST Where: Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, Bloomington, Indiana TV: BTN Northern Kentucky Norse record so far...Coming off a season where they went 14-11 (11-7, 4th in Horizon)...Coached by Former Western Kentucky star Darrin Horn...Horn was at one time an assistant at Marquette under Tom Crean...Horn has also been the head coach at his alma mater, Western Kentucky, and South Carolina (208-134 overall)... Side note: Alice Lloyd must be one heck of a player Rotation guys stats... Look to be very guard oriented as they only started one frontcourt player, Adrian Nelson, last game...and he's only 6'7... No real standout but a balanced team...Picked 4th in the Horizon League this year... Highlights of their loss to DePaul... We should have an easy time here...they really don't have an answer for TJD and Race...Be a good game to get our guards squared away and work on running our offense...

  24. While I think you are too negative, you make a lot of good points here that I have a feeling the staff are making as well. We have to remember that most of these kids have been playing at least 10-15 years and habits formed during that much time playing don't get reversed overnight, especially when most decisions have to be made in split seconds. I guarantee the coaches are seeing the same things we are seeing and with time and repetition, we'll see things improve. For example, Lander is plenty quick to play good defense, but he is way too tight to his man too far out giving himself no time to adjust to the blow by. He is probably leaning too far forward to reverse quickly as well, but I'm going off memory there. Khristian, the players you face here are a lot faster than the ones you faced in high school. Leave a couple of feet between you and your man when you're 30 feet from the hoop and you'll have the time and space to prevent him from getting that half step on you for the blow by...kapish? You can bet a professional staff literally paid millions has mentioned something like this multiple times already. I think it's OK for fans to be happy with a win while discussing things that can be improved. I don't get the constant negative mindset though. It's the coaching staff's job to focus on and correct mistakes. I don't think it's even healthy for fans to obsess on every shortcoming. Just my thoughts here...there will always be things to be upset about. No need to dwell on them so much though...it's not like it's our job and we're getting paid to do that.

  25. I don't know @IU Scott, I went back through this thread and found very little in the way of actual "bitching." I see people commenting on what we need to shore up before conference play begins in earnest, and that may vary some, but I consider those simply opinions... If you've been around as many professional bitchers in life as I have, you learn to spot the differences

  27. It was garbage that he got a technical foul in the first place. He defended his teammate in a controlled way and the fact he got a technical foul on that call was about as bad of a call as I have seen in a long while.

  28. I'm not sure it's an expectation on my part, but more a feeling that if we could get one of the PGs to play the way Coach Woody wants them to play, we could truly contend for top 3 in the Big 10... We have a good inside game, reliable shooters, play good defense... Having kids come off the bench and contribute consistently and having a floor leader that runs the offense efficiently, and doesn't turn it over are the two areas we have issues... The latter especially manifests itself as frustrated criticism in game threads...

  29. Also, I will take my lumps with X this season. Guard play has already been identified as the greatest need by our coaching staff on the recruiting trail: 2022: Jalen Hood-Schifino 2023: Jakai Newton, Gabe Cupps

  31. Excellent post. At times, they don't guard Phinisee. His man would just ignore him and triple team TJD. It really clogs the floor when you have a liability on offense like that. He's not useless. He covered a bigger guy in Wesley. I think where Phinisee will save us when he is able to cover a guy like Ivey or other athletic guys who get downhill. The height difference is worth it. Ivey wants to attack off the bounce, and Phin needs to harass him on that. If Ivey hits some shots over Phin, so be it. We don't have many other guys who can cover a wing of that ilk. The trick on offense is you put Phin off the ball. If the other team doesn't have a guy who is beating us downhill, there is no law that Phinisee must play.

  33. Well ….brown wasn’t supposed to play till the 21 but the cardinals were down 30 so whitford threw him in ….played 3:30 and had six points on 2/2 shooting …ESPN announcers indicate he’s 4th all time in indiana scoring and one of the dip sticks says Larry bird is number 1. The other guy says he thinks it’s Damon Bailey and they argue about that the next 3 minutes

  34. Correct. We need a talent influx, 0% of people on here would argue that.

  37. Woody said before the season started of we could play good defense, we would give ourselves a chance to win. That’s what we did today and what our M.O. will be this year. It’s never going to be pretty this year so I’ll just enjoy the Ws however they come.

  43. On X, IMO, I can grit my teeth through the mistakes attacking the rim in transition. It’s when he takes shots, particularly threes, early in the shot clock that I get frustrated. I do think we’ve played our best basketball of the year he has been on the floor. He might not be the best, but he’s the best we have right now.

  44. He totally nullifies what he does well with his poor play. He does more bad than he does good… why in the hell is he shooting 9 3’s a game?! He shot more than Stewart and Kopp combined.

  45. It is so painfully obvious that this team is better with XJ on the court. He makes a lot of mistakes but he does things that nobody else can do on this team.
