  1. Posting this in the other thread also but I want to say thank you to @BDBfor making this happen! Grateful for all the support as I keep fighting epilepsy. I’m hoping to one day make enough $ to move to Indy and be close to a lot more basketball to help me have fewer seizures! Another surgery for my implant scheduled for next year. Behind me are the 269 jerseys I have so far. Indiana looks like a beautiful place and I can’t wait to live there one day! My twitter is @358jerseys4hope and I look forward to keeping on chatting with y’all and coming to a game if I can afford to get there. Thank you for helping me and so many others overcome epilepsy everyday!! If you or someone you know is struggling with it, please let them know they’re not alone! 🙏🏻🏀

  3. According to Paul Biancardi he is in Bloomington today and tomorrow along with JHS and the Montverde coach. Also visiting Maryland and Virginia. Obviously would be a huge addition.

  4. Not joking, if you Google image search "2023 Bradley Dunlap" one of the top results is this: I gotta say, the guy looks a little rough. But maybe that's what IU needs. A shooter who will walk on to the court with a black eye and a cig hanging from his mouth.

  5. I'm trying to get on board with this (and I have never been terribly down on Kopp, I think he had an okay year and is a good guy to have for 15 minutes a game off the bench), but, looking at the game logs, I'm having a hard time seeing when the bulb went on. He didn't score at all in the tournament, missed a lot of shots against Iowa, was not existent against Illinois. Was solid against Michigan and Purdue, but I'm not seeing anything to suggest next year will be better than this year.

  6. I’m putting in a crystal ball pick for IU. Based solely on a gut feeling.

  7. If TJD stays he still gets major minutes at the 5 and sharpens his skills everyday in practice against an All-American.

  8. Fingers crossed on this but I think we have the best recruiting assistants as a group as we’ve had in a very long time and that includes Walsh. Plus I think Woody can close. This will be a huge summer of recruiting, locking down ‘23 and getting the foundation laid for ‘24 and even ‘25 to an extent. I think we will know a ton about where we are headed by November.

  9. The fact that we even got him on campus for a visit is exciting. Big time.

  10. I didn't know he's so young, still only 18 years old. Sounds like handlers have been whispering "NBA" to him, saying college was a rest stop on the way to riches. From Yahoo Sports: "Bates was long considered to be one of the best NBA prospects in recent history, but after a disappointing season with Memphis, that has been in doubt, with some draft experts unsure if he’d even be a first round pick after questions have arisen around his athleticism and decision-making ability."

  11. Respextfully, I honestly couldn't disagree more. What end of the year improvement do you see that makes you think he's going to make any sort of leap next year? I'm not trying to trash a Hoosier but let's be real he's a "sharpshooter" that just isn't an in game scorer (I imagine he is an amazing practice player and for whatever the reason doesn't connect in the game). He is not an above average rebounder or defender and he can not create his own shot. He went 2-17 over the final 3 games and had zero points in the final two games. Just look at the box scores for the last 4 games we played.

  15. Not trying to be rude and I really do see what you are saying but to me those are the stats of a pretty good role player (if he had averaged that over the entire year, not his 7 best game stretch of the season). I just personally don't want one of the true team leaders to be even that (the highlight stretch of his year was that 7 games: 8ppg, 3 rbg, 1 assist, <0.5 steals/blocks in 30 minutes per game). He disappeared in the games at the end of the year that matter the most and even missed a couple of absolutely clutch moment free throws. I love the hussle but I don't think there are a ton of plays he's making that are the type that aren't getting recorded on the stat sheet. I just can't think of many good teams from the past few years in ncaa/ big ten who has a year long starter that identifies as a team leader that has that stat line (especially without being an above average defender. While he may not be a bad on ball defender, it's not like he's a better defender than an average big ten wing player).

  17. You hit the nail on the head with this post. Give me the great college player that wins you games, but lacks some of the "potential" the NBA wants but doesn't really benefit their current college team. Good athlete and skill over elite athleticism. Ideally you have a good combination of both, but I'll take the TJD/Bacot/Gillespie/Tshiebwe types over the uber athletes that haven't learned the game yet.

  18. That's a great point about taking one year at a mid major. But with the NIL, why not have them walk on and give them a one year NIL deal? It subsidizes their cost of tuition, and they could still earn a scholarship if they play above expectations. Lots of potential to get creative.

  22. i could definitely see you being right, but i think i'll have a lot higher expectations if Bates and JHS are good enough to push him out of the starting lineup. i, for one was hopeful and excited about Kopp, but will admit that i think he hurt us last season. if he is a superstar this year, i'll be ecstatic, but will still admit that i was wrong and not claim i was in his corner!

  24. Glad its this weekend. Coach and the team can focus on him solely. Next week is Little 500, so this weekend works better. It would be great if JHS tagged along for the visit. I think if he wants to commit, we will make room for him somehow. Man the lineups this year with him would be stacked, and next year WOW.

  25. This is where I want that current available spot to go. Saw him on tv recently; very good rebounder and knows how to score inside. IU could use that as I’ve seen too many missed shots up close. Plus can’t hurt on Evans next year if two teammates are already here.

  27. It's good to meet everyone here that loves college hoops like I do and I've been following Indiana a lot more lately since we have family there and I would love nothing more than some sort of way to move them to that area. Primarily because it's a cradle of basketball and so close to so many teams. But also because of how I've gradually become a bigger and bigger fan of IU basketball over the last couple years. This post will be kinda long but I felt compelled to share my story here because I've been incredibly depressed lately esp with the season winding down and feeling like it's hopeless to be able to properly move forward in life and get my family to Indiana. When I was 2 years old, I fell from a 2nd-story window and hit my head and developed epileptic and subsequent spectrum disorder symptoms, causing me to convulse while fully conscious and a feeling of needing to constantly be moving and pacing in order to not move my arms so much. I was made fun of in school for doing my best to control my convulsions and the teachers could tell that something was odd, though my first grade teacher did not understand well and frequently would embarrass me in front of the class while I was trying to control my movements and not distract the fellow students. I have suffered from problematic epilepsy since 2008 when I began to develop memory issues and a loss of the ability to use language and math for minutes on end and then developed severe epilepsy in 2012 with serious loss of consciousness and major seizures with full convulsions and the condition continues to become more and more troublesome. Constant seizures are a way of life and as such I am not properly able to provide for my family and overcoming these episodes has proven incredibly difficult, but I am very fortunate in that I have had some amazing support through these last several years. As I became increasingly saddened by my struggles, I decided to reach out to those who help me get through my day and relax, focusing my thoughts on something constant that can ground me and make my episodes less frequent. The sports world, particularly college basketball has been that constant that keeps me calm when other things can’t. To my amazement, after I began writing to the schools and created a twitter handle, I started to get jerseys in the mail…it was a magical, overwhelming show of compassion that brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. Even though I still don't have an IU jersey yet, I want to thank you dearly from the bottom of my heart, I am eternally grateful to your program and fanbase, and I would love to keep this rolling and gain an even greater ability to connect with people who face the struggles of epilepsy. After I started to receive jerseys, it gave me an idea. The outpouring of kindness from these schools is nothing short of a miracle for me. To date, I have received 269 of the 357 D1 jerseys, now 75% of the way there. I am attempting to unite all of college basketball to raise awareness for epilepsy and what these schools do for so many who are fighting through it, especially in terms of research and students who move on to help individuals with epilepsy try to live a better life, or in some cases they constantly save people’s lives on a daily basis. It has been wonderful to see this idea come to fruition and completing this collection is going to help so many others to learn that their struggles can be overcome with the help of the efforts of these schools. Ultimately, as I receive the remaining jerseys and gain enough financial ability, my goal is to be able to move my family to Indiana and go to games in the area since there are so many close by. Sharing stories, meeting other people impacted by epilepsy, helping them stay positive, and being courtside at games all over the place (you never know where I might pop up ;-). Especially at IU & Assembly Hall, one of the most important cradles of college basketball I want to help people not be afraid, and to educate other people that aren’t impacted by epilepsy about how to support those who are. This would be a dream come true and I hope that there is a way to make this happen one day! My twitter is: @358jerseys4hope I'd love to have you follow me and interact as much as possible!! From my 2 brain surgeries a few years ago: Still recovering in 2022 but trying to help people stay positive: Y'all are awesome and I continue to become more and more of an IU fan. I think the team is gonna be quite good next season! Hopefully I can watch a game in person over there one day! The Big Ten atmospheres look so much more vibrant than our Pac12 ones here and there is just so much more college basketball close by! I'll make sure to be active here as it seems like a really fun group!

  28. I know you’re not saying this but I wanted to comment on Kopp just because his name came up. People like to lump Kopp in the liability camp with Stewart. I am going to predict that Kopp will be huge for us next year. You saw a glimpse of what he can do down the stretch. He finally got in the flow and he and the staff figured out how to optimize that. The light bulb went on and IMO he will build on it. I predict he does well next year and this whole board will be pretending that they were all in his corner the whole time. The kid is a pure shooter. But people forget that your shooting percentage is contingent on a number of factors, including the offense getting the right shots and in the right position. The guards have to get you the ball in the in the right flow where you can get your preferred shots up. IMO, Kopp wasn’t getting the right shots earlier in the year. As the team got into synch later, he became an asset and his role seemed to get figured out in terms of getting him shots in the right flow and where he can excel. We talk about needing shooters but we’ve got a kid who can flat out shoot. I think he’s the most overly maligned guy we have and it’s not realistic. I am looking for Kopp to be huge next year. He’s found his role and his teammates and coaches have figured out his game. I’m not saying he will average 20 PPG. I’m saying he will hit huge timely shots and, just as importantly, spread the floor for the offense.

  29. I like both players a lot but you seem to really be planting your flag in the Race camp and diminishing JG. But what you aren’t taking into account is that JG was surging later in the season and Race struggled later. It’s not out of the question that JG will capitalize on his momentum and improve a lot. He brings dimensions that Race doesn’t in terms of athleticism and stretching the floor. The spacing may be very useful to running our desired offense. If you look at a team like Arkansas, those alignments are brutal to deal with on both ends.

My buddy never reached his ultimate so he spent a few years in minor leagues. Has always said it's the best reflection ever. 35. I agree... It's home for him...we saw how Al Durham prospered in the Big East by pretty much doubling his FT attempts (although shooting the 3 at a much poorer percentage than he did here)...dribble, drive, hit the floor worked for him... Curbelo has a limited outside game, but his mid-range and drives to the hoop will work for him in that league... But you're absolutely right...make the winning basketball play and don't worry about the SportsCenter highlight...Same thing I used to gnash teeth about with Devonte Green... Mike Anderson values defense and taking care of the ball...that'll be the first hurdle Curbelo will have to overcome...

  36. I hear you and like JG’s potential, but I don’t think he has anything on Race other than athleticism. I would personally take Race in a shooting contest all day at this point in their careers. I mean Race averaged 11 and 8 with a steal and a block, and was honorable mention all league. How many games has JG even done what Race averaged? Hint: It’s 1 time ever.

  38. It does not matter who is better on April 15th. The question will be is who is better in October and November and has JG progressed to where he can play the 3 like he wants. That is the question and that is if JG is even back at IU.

  41. Thank you so much for sharing your story. As an IU fan, I can honestly say I'm disappointed that you have not yet received a jersey from Indiana. Hopefully, someone at IU quickly receives word of your post here and jump starts the effort to get one delivered. If you ever do achieve your goal of making Indiana your home, dont limit yourself to college basketball. There are still many areas if the state where high school basketball remains a religion. There are some truly historic high school venues in this state, with fan bases second to none.
