Am I to understand correctly that we owe Tom Crean for this one? Tom Crean gets fired from Georgia, Mike White leaves for Georgia and we get Malik.

Great addition. Congrats to Malik and his family. Congrats to CMW and the staff for another big time recruiting accomplishment. The funny thing is, when other programs land a top level recruit they don't seem too worried about who that may impact and cause to leave. I never read anything from Duke, Kansas, UNC, etc. fretting over who may decide to leave if they add another five star recruit. The question I ask is - if a current player decides they can't stay on the team if IU adds a great player, does IU really need them? Another question would be, what Power 5 conference team will you transfer to where you can just step in and be a starter getting lots of minutes with no competition for other great recruits if you don't think you can compete at IU?

The significance of this beyond today cannot be understated. There is a genuine shift taking place.

According to reports, the Monteverde coach also came with Malik and JHS on the visit. I hope Woody got some quality time with him to talk and try and further that relationship! Would be nice to know if they got a chance to sit down together while Malik and JHS were checking out the campus with the Assistant coaches.

First, so pumped about the commitment! Second, this is the type of recruiting I've been begging for! Crean could do it for a time, but never consistently and Archie could never really do it after his initial class. But the way you win in college basketball is by stacking classes with multiple players ranked between 20-75 in their classes. We now have 3 of those guys in the 2022 class and add that to Bates last year. Add 2-3 more next year and then we have 6-7 on the roster. Stacking classes like that minimizes the impact of a guy like TJD leaving early or an unexpected transfer, etc. The last 6-8 years we've been one man teams with just average players surrounding that one guy. Now, we're beginning to stack talent.

Just bumping this totally appropriate, totally relevant thread... It's been what, OVER AN HOUR since anything newsworthy happened? That's way too long. Hopefully something happens to/with this program that stirs conversation.

Interesting tweet from Mo Creek. He's also been tweeting the last several days about being on his way to Bloomington. Could be nothing, but thought it was interesting since it's a slow point of the offseason.

All things considered, I hope we stand pat with what we have right now, assuming Trayce comes back... I personally wouldn't want one year of Dennis if it means we sacrifice possibly 3 more years of Geronimo or 4 more of Duncomb... But, In Woody I Trust...

Several things that are grounds for optimism & high expectations: 1. CMW proves he can get impact type players. No comparison to the CAM results. 2. Multiple high ranked players in a class - greatly reduces the impact if one is injured or doesn't play up to his ranking. 3. With the Monteverde players accustomed to playing high level team basketball, they should be adapt more quickly than big fish in a little pond recruits. 4. Perhaps not the quickest route, but I much prefer this approach to building the program to over reliance on portal guys.

Wait a second....Woody is 64 years old and never coached in college. I thought he was a terrible hire, that IU can't get anything right, and Woody can't recruit? Where are the Jeff Goodman's, the fans of other conference teams who were slapping their knees, and others, who assured us of all of that?

obviously TJD is gonna get feedback before making a decision on returning, however, my in-laws were at the dog park in B-town over the weekend and Race and his girlfriend were there with their dogs. They talked for a bit, Race said TJD might be coming back. I think there is a legit chance he returns.

No major inside info, but there's no doubt the coaches had some time together. Mutually beneficial. The Monteverde coach wouldn't travel to B-Town without some 1:1 time with CMW.
