  1. the Hoosier Hysterics guys interviewed TJD over the weekend. A few interesting tidbits… - During his slump last season his back was hurting him very badly - he was playing in pain, couldn’t move as quick or jump as high until later in February. And before the first Purdue game he was up all night PUking (pun intended) 🤮 - It was his and Race’s decision to suspended the guys for the NW game. 😯 - He said he is going to come out next season shooting. Especially in the early games to get his confidence up. 🤞

  2. I am changing my vote even though I might be susceptible to criticism of recency bias. I am going with Oladipo and Trayce. As @tdhoosier mentioned in another thread, TJD was on with the Hoosier Hysterics. I just love this kid. He is a tremendous leader and his career stats will be off the charts in terms of scoring, rebounding, and blocks. I will add to tdhoosier's tidbits. When Trayce told CMW he was returning, they scheduled an in-person meeting in Indy. TJD came armed with ideas and plans for effective summer work. CMW loved it and said it was exactly what a leader should be doing. The thing about the NU game suspensions was riveting. CMW initially knew about only 2 guys who broke curfew. TJD and Race talked with the assistants and they wanted them all suspended. The point was he wanted all of them working as a team for a common goal. On the rules for drug tests, TJD mocked the policy of the first flunk, you have to call your parents, second you get 2-3 game suspension, etc. TJD wants a guy gone after the first one. His point is about everyone rowing in the same direction. He loves CMW. He knows CMW and the staff want the best for him, as a person. He said CMW is not really a yell at you kind of coach, but at halftime of the UM game he basically said "do you guys even want to play or not." TJD told Race, "We are winning this game, I don't care [what it takes]..." He is excited about playing and wishes they had games now. He said in some prior years, players were burnt out at the end of the season, but no longer.

  3. JHS's HC at Montverde says his most immediate impact in college will be on defense. The director of his AAU program says he's a good defender on-ball, and he can guard 1-3. A Rivals scout said that he's developing a reputation as a shutdown defender.

  4. Favorites... Vic TJD But I respect and admire Juwan Morgan. That guy was tough as nails and worked his way into being a really good player, in tough situations. High character guy for sure!

  5. Steph Curry is an all time great. With that said he's caused the number of ill-advised 3 point attempts by elementary kids to increase exponentially.

  6. I'm not sure why everyone thinks Galloway is a finished product? Dude would be a monster if he can fix his shooting, which was showing signs of improvement before the wrist injury.

  7. I really, really like Banks. I don’t expect much this year but he seems to have all the tools to develop into a stud eventually.

  8. I do think we will have primarily a nine man rotation. My remaining four guys would be Duncomb, Leal, Gunn, and Banks. Duncomb to me is a poster child for a guy who needs to redshirt unless there is an injury up front. I think he will be a very good player, maybe as soon as '23-24, but right now he could use more time in the oven. Leal is heart and toughness. Everybody loves him and for good reason. He can play in a pinch, but for the most part he will provide culture, leadership, attitude, etc. A lot of fans have misread his skill set and have assumed he is a pure shooter. That's not really his game but anyone can get better. He's a tough kid with big shoulders who is nice on the back end of the roster. Gunn and Banks are two guys I like for the future. Length and quickness. The future of this program. But right now, they have a ton of players in front of them and they need to add muscle. Either they come in and won't be ignored ("I won't be ignored, Dan" (from Fatal Attraction)) or more likely they will get glimpses of PT to get ready for the following year. But, man, it would be great if one or both started draining shots at a rate that we can't ignore.

  12. Hey! I actually had not. Thanks for asking. He is going to Presbyterian College in SC. Small D1 school in the Big South conference. I think a great fit for him. Personally I could never be a walk on when I could go to a lower division and play, but he wants the year round training and to see the inner workings of a D1 program to prepare him for a coaching career.

  13. Jalen Hood-Schifino, true, has not yet arrived on campus, but he was the primary ball-handler for the HS National Champion. He is coming in similarly ranked to Bates, but his build is already college-ready whereas Bates was “a little light in the butt” (Woodson). Hood-Schifino also has another advantage coming in as a frosh over some in the past: his game is steady, solid and others centered (is very content distributing, not needing to make the highlight play). The schedule and level of competition JHS played was against mostly D1 committed players, not typical HS players. And the elephant in the room: 5-star players want to play in year one. If there is to be a wait your turn, earn it approach, regardless of how ready a player is (Bates showed flashes but was not quite ready last season), it may be tougher to get a commitment from such players down the road.

  14. Good post. I feel the same about Jalen Hood-Schifino. Maybe he will be as amazing as some say. He'll start, make the all freshman team, and get Big Ten or even national honors. I'd like to see him play a dozen college games first. Until then, it's just hope and wishful thinking. He doesn't even know his way around campus yet.

  15. Gold and Black fellas have whittled TJD from 6’10 in shoes, to 6'9, to 6'8, and now down to 6'7... If it was up to them, he'd end up being the basketball version of Eddie Gaedel...

  18. I buy onion buns(any bun you like will work) and roast beef from the deli. I like boars head. I butter and toast the buns and warm up the roast beef with a little bit of beef stock in the skillet. Cheese sauce(can adjust but keep ratio) 4oz sharp cheddar 4oz American 1/4 cup half and half Stir on low/med low heat until melted Arbys red sauce(I spice to taste but spice measurements should be close) 1 cup ketchup 2 tbsp apple cider or white vinegar 1/2 tsp honey 1/2 tsp paprika A little garlic and onion powder Salt 1/4 water 2 tsp Mayo You can make and reheat sauce or cook and let simmer 5-10 mins. Just need to let flavors come together.

  19. So they took my new granddaughter to her first horse show this weekend...had to get up early, and it seems she's just not a morning person 🙂 And once they got there, she chose a nice nap over saying "hello" to the horses Babies are just the best...

  20. I'm confused by this. It seems our roster is more then set. I don't really see anyone transferring now, they wouldn't even get immediate eligibility, plus.... there is no min crunch for our Top 9. Sorry, but JG future is at the 4. He needs to be playing 14-16 mpg and developing, he is the only one I could see transferring... and he has already said he is back. He needs to watch Grant Williams.

  21. Came home to some pretty heavy growth of our flowers and herbs. The terrace irrigation system and late May sunshine works wonders when you are gone for 10 days. Almost didn’t recognize a couple plants. It looks like it’s going to be even more of a jungle this year. I planted several tender lettuces from seed and we now have way too much lettuce. My wife bagged some up for the neighbors last night. Haven’t planted tomatoes or peppers yet, and am not sure I’m going to. The tomatoes take up so much space and get really busted looking towards the end of summer.

  23. One other note: Reneau and JHS are both savvy defenders, very advanced for HS seniors. That will help both of them get time early.

  26. I think you have to go Zeller #1 and then probably Yogi #2. With that said, I think people sleep on Thomas Bryant a ton. A lot of that is probably because he isn't an Indiana kid, but the dude was an absolute stud and we don't win the Big Ten or go to the Sweet Sixteen without him. I'm an Oladipo guy too, and he might have been the most talented player in 12-13, but Zeller was the most important player from 11-13. He was the game changer.

  29. This...and leadership...tough for a freshman to be heard in a lineup with a lot of upper classmen, but I seem to remember a freshman guard who led IU to a final 4 with a pretty experienced cast around him...
    2 points
  30. I think this is a reasonable lineup, but I also haven't seen enough from Woody personally to say that I don't think he'll start freshman. We just didn't have anyone worth starting last year that wasn't an upper classmen; we tried Galloway a few times and he just seems to be better and have more impact coming off of the bench. Bates just wasn't ready, I'm really not sure who else we could have gone with?

  31. I think he'll be ready to play defense at a college level and be able to adjust more slowly on offense. My personal expectations are that he starts next to XJ but is a secondary ball-handler and scorer, averaging something like 8-10 PPG and ~3-4 assists. In an ideal world, Bates takes a jump and JHS is clearly the 5th scoring option out of our starters, but even if not I don't see him being anything higher than our 4th scorer which is a great situation for him to come into as a freshman IMO.

  32. That's where I'm at. I believe JHS is starting from Day 1 for a couple reasons. First...I just think he's our best option to change the dynamic of the team opposite of Xavier. Secondly...and I'm not saying CMW would do this but showing highly ranked recruits they play right away isn't a bad thing. He'll get his minutes right away whether he continues to get those starter minutes is up to him. I'm sure people will ask about Malik (ranking, starting, etc) and to me he's just a tad different. He's been used to waiting his turn his entire high school career....while knowing he's getting better by playing against better bigs. In our case that's TJD. Malik will get his minutes too....he's got a built in 17-18 mpg a game just in backing up both Race and Trayce....and that's before TJD gets called for 2 fouls in first 4 minutes in any given game. Team is deep, getting more and more talented....but I'll say what I said yesterday. I just have a hard time believing everyone will return after the summer. It's just not what college hoops is like anymore.

  33. That's pretty smart and dedicated of him I'm sure he's going to pave a great path for himself. Lots of time, sacrifice, abd dedication and few good breaks here and there and you may just find yourself on the bench of another young up and comer.

  34. Yogi is #1 for me - primarily because he was a mainstay on both of IU’s B1G championship teams during that timeframe. Cody is #2 - his commitment was, in my opinion, the biggest in quite some time for IU. That recruitment put us back on the map and lead to several others coming to Bloomington(Yogi specifically). Loved the entire 2013 class, and can’t remember another class where each of them ended up in the NBA. Bryant, Morgan and OG were all great players at IU. Lots of love for Crean’s first two classes as well. Those guys were grinders. VJ3, Jordy and Watford gave us some great moments and were warriors. I felt like we could’ve made some more noise had VJ3 not went down at the end of the season. His leadership was missed during that tournament run, and who knows, maybe we knock off the eventual champs… again. Noah and Romeo were extraordinary talents that could’ve benefited from an additional season, but who am I kidding? They did what was best for them, and I can’t blame them. Vic and Troy were two of the most athletic young me that I recall wearing the candy stripes, and Vic is near the top for me. I felt like Vic hurt his image to some by leaving the Pacers. I don’t really care about that, but others apparently do. He was the guy, then decided to make a business decision. I don’t blame him though. The Pacers have had some great teams, but never have been the type of organization to take that last step to add(spend) the last piece. Sorry, but definitely Yogi and Cody. 😂

  35. So glad they overturned that. It's also cool to see a guy like Wiggins seemingly has found the perfect home for him - he's an incredible talent but just not going to ever be "the guy", but man is he a GREAT complimentary player.

  38. I don’t understand the last dig at Tamar, but to each their own. JHS is ranked higher in a better class and has 30 lbs on Tamar. JHS is ranked ahead of guys like Blackmon and Yogi, where as Bates was about where Hollowell was. I have no idea what JHS actually will do next year, but it’s not fair at all to just say “Tamar bad so we can’t ever count on a freshman” when every freshman that was actually in JHS’s range has started and produced their freshman year at Indiana.

  39. No no. Questioning is reasonable. Designing a role is real. There's way to handle this stuff in an adult manner. From what I know... I doubt Mark Galloway would allow himself to be a bafoon towards CMW. Too much respect for everyone. Maybe I'm wrong. I'll choose to see it as all parties involved needed to talk, see where we all stand... and lets roll. If it happened to begin with. Lets be clear. This is ULTRA off season stuff though lol

  40. I think this is a fair post, and I’m certainly one that does expect JHS to be a starter and be one of our four or five best players. The biggest differences to me in JHS and JG are 1) I’ve seen JG has a ways to go as a college player to be a top 5 player on a high level team 2) there’s a much bigger opportunity for minutes in front of JHS just based on what’s returning than their is for JG and 3) the likelihood that a 5 star guard comes in and contributes when he’s in a position to get big minutes is relatively high, the likelihood that a guy double his minutes from the previous year when the guys he was playing behind are still there and a 5 star freshman comes in seems low. And that’s not even factoring in Banks who could be an unfairly forgotten guy in all of this But again, you’re right, we are putting expectations on JHS and he hasn’t proven anything yet.

  41. I really liked Robert Johnson, I feel like he was underrated in a similar way to Marshall Strickland. I will say Juwan Morgan as my second favorite... (all kinds of honorable mentions: Jordan Hulls, Will Sheehey, Victor Oladipo, Cody Zeller, Christian Watford)

  42. Now that my son is going to be a D1 walk on, I'm saying Daniel Moore and Matt Roth. Nah, on a serious note, I'd have to say Yogi and Cody.
