It’s hard to say because the Net is so convoluted, but if we hold home court and win those games, we’re 21-10 and 13-7 in the league. Hard to imagine with that record we wouldn’t get in the NCAAs.

Changing it to home wins instead of losses vs. Neb, PSU, NW (which I think is what you're saying) on Torvik, we still aren't in. We're listed as the 10th team out (instead of 16th out currently).

I also want to add, there is nothing wrong with what Woodson likes as long as you realize that about yourself and act accordingly.  I would have all the respect in the world for Woodson if he basically came out and said, "You know what, Mike Woodson loves Indiana University and Mike Woodson loves coaching.  However, Mike Woodson doesn't love all the other aspects that a college coach has to do outside those two things to be successful the way the game has gone these days.  Therefore Mike Woodson am is going to retire early so that someone who does love those things can build on what we Mike Woodson and others have done here to set the groundwork for NIL and the modern approach.  Mike Woodson will be available to help that person continue to grow this place that Mike Woodson loves so much."

If Woodson came out and said something like that at Senior night, much respect and standing ovation from the crowd and he still gets to be Woodson the hero.  If he holds on for whatever reason and doesn't change up the things he isn't doing for whatever reason he isn't doing them though, he is going to tarnish his legacy.  Brad Stevens knew he didn't like the college life.  Jay Wright has said the new game isn't for him.  Other coaches have expressed similar thoughts as of late.  And I get it, some of this really sucks from my POV as well.  It is the reality though.  So if Woodson isn't 100% bought in to what it takes, he needs to be self aware enough to say he isn't the guy.  And that reasoning would have nothing to do with his coaching ability, it is all about preference.

That off ramp is available, I would love to see him take it.

Great post. I really wish this would happen but think there's less than 1% chance it does. If it does, see my expected revisions above in bold...

Listening to Woodson’s post game. I don’t understand his infatuation with XJ. Am I watching a different player than he is?

I initially thought it was so he could maintain his "excuse" for this season's underperformance, but I've shifted to he really believes that if we had X all year we'd be a solid tournament team and he feels validated by the 3-0 record w/ X's return while disregarding X's performance/impact on the result.

OMG... Both Bardo AND Hummel doing color commentary for the Purdue-Illinois game on Peacock...

I think it may come to blows...

Just turned it on and heard this and thought I was hearing things.

Also, immediately saw Edey get a "spectacular block" where he didn't even touch the ball...

It was a simple question...Would ANY coach have survived with that record at IU...I think we all know the answer...

You need to watch this video then determine for yourself if Scott Dolson would trade Mike Woodson and Bruce Pearl...

I realize that this video was after Woody's first year, but "sticking with the plan" and "no timetable for success" are kinda the root of Scott Dolson as an AD...He cut his teeth under Knight, and I think he understands that every coach...Every coach, can have a year where things don't go as planned...He was a manager on the 85 team, so it's not like he's never seen IU finish under .500 in Big 10 play...

He was also the AD in Woodson's 1st season when he went 9-11

    <Sigh>

If you look at starting lineups, this year our prevailing starting lineup is Cupps, Galloway, Ware, Mgbako, and Reneau and with that lineup, we're 8-8...That group is also our top 5 this year in minutes played per game...they combine for 173 starts at the D1 level...

The team we played yesterday's starting lineup had 414 starts at the D1 level...Purdue? 397...Illinois? 445...

Even Ohio State's most prevalent lineup has 302 starts under their belt...

Leal and Walker are bit players, but I know you threw them in to prop up your argument...But it doesn't...

So the facts say, yes, we're an inexperienced group...But don't let facts get into the way of the "Fire Woody" argument...

agreed.  with the new college game of NIL and transfer portal roster turnover is gonna dictate a lot of new faces every year.  young team just can't be an excuse any more.

    XJ 6 years

    Galloway 4 years

    Leal 4 years

    Walker 4 years

    Ware 2 years

    Reneau 2 years

    Gunn 2 years

    MM 1 year

    Cupps 1 year

These are the players who played today and to me that is a lot of experience

If anyone subscribes to KenPom (I don't anymore) they could settle this by looking at the age (or experience category can't remember the name) that weighs the experience by minutes played and ranks the teams.

As for the recruiting, could be we have zero chance with those top 2 or 3 kids for '25 and are not wasting time.  Maybe they have already eliminated IU and the staff knows.  Do we know if the staff was at any games on Friday?

We don't need any recruits. "Indiana Basketball at its best" happened on Tuesday night.

i guess its our fault they suck. yes its the fans, who give their money to guys like this. its the POS fans that make this team the worst team in the Big Ten. Stop giving NIL money to a losing cause until it changes. Football only NIL is up 500%.

You sure he's talking about the fans? There have been critics in the media and Woodson has been critical as well. I thought he was talking about Woodson when I 1st read it. What do others think?

Painter confirms this season is Edey's last. Since 16, 15, and 13 have been accomplished let's go with 14 seed to oust Purdue this year....although that might be difficult because it would require it to happen in Regional Finals.

Glad that he won't get/take 5 years to beat Calbert's B1G scoring record. (Technically, he could beat it IF he averages 34+ game and Turdue wins both the BTT and NCAAT for 12 more games which seems unlikely in its entirety.)

He'll end up top 10 for sure, probably pass TJD before the end of the regular season.

    Let me just ask this...

If Dolson were to entertain letting Mike Woodson go, would it be because of

    A) his overall body of work

    Or

    B) the record this year

    ?

    A) and B) in the sense that his overall body of work combined with the record this year is trending in the wrong direction. Overall body of work is averaging a ranking of 50 which is mediocre at best. .617 winning percentage overall isn't terrible but .509 in B1G isn't acceptable to me for an IU coach barring a massive rebuild that wasn't the case here.

My main reasons would be that we can't be trending in the wrong direction with a 66 year old coach and hope if he's given enough time he'll turn it around. Even if he does then he'd be ready or close to leaving anyway. I would much rather turn it around with someone else who can be here long term. Year 1 for Woodson and Year 4 for Archie are incredibly similar. JHS & TJD combined to get us a 2 win improvement in Year 2 and now in Year 3 any way you look at it it is the worst season of Woodson's tenure and arguably the worst season since 2010 (debatable vs. 2021 (Miller fired), 2011 (Crean 3rd season of massive rebuild)). The offense is as bad at it ever was w/ Archie and his defense has dropped 30-40ranks each year thus far.

Personally, it feels like we are losing the state to Turdue and if we don't get an energetic leader with an appealing style of play soon it will take a long time to recover on the upcoming recruiting misses that are likely to happen with Woodson in place and a cloud of uncertainty hanging over him (performance and/or age related, take your pick).

Lastly, I was watching the IU/Turdue game, my 6 year old son who has become a big IU fan and Turdue "hater". After the game started getting away from us he said to me, "Dad, my brain is telling me I should be rooting for Purdue. I "hate" Purdue and don't want to root for them. Why is my brain telling me to root for them?" Makes me sad that my son hasn't gotten to experience much reason to root for IU at all other than he likes them because I do.

FWIW, Rabby retweeted a post today from Adidas saying they signed this kid.

Based on latest intel, we are the only Adidas school listed that he was planning on taking a visit too.

Interesting. A reclass to 2024 and we land him it would seem our/Mike Woodson's PG problem may be over (for a year at least)...

When you lose at home by 14 to Penn St what do you expect? Being a 6pt underdog is probably about right. I hope it’s that close, because if it is, we just might have a chance to win.

    barttorvik.com has us at +7.1

    I agree with you.

A suggestion to whoever is the Men's basketball coach at IU. Make yourself available for interviews on the Indy radio stations. In the last few weeks I have heard Matta, Painter, May, Schertz?, Lewis but no Woodson. Even our football coach last year was on a show once a week.

Now multiply that by 100, and you'll be just behind all of the PUke posts....  :D

Find it wild that Turdue fans would spend enough time on a rival's message board to post 6.6k times and 1.9k times.

I've been here forever and have 1.9k posts and I know you've been around forever and have 2.2k
