I don’t disagree with that statement. UConn is/was that good. But Purdue still has plenty of returning talent and incoming talent to be worthy of lofty preseason rankings. Think about MSU’s preseason ranking this year and Purdue brings back at least as much talent (if not more) next season.

Overall, Purdue’s guards proved themselves against tough defenses both during the tournament and throughout the year. Sure UConn and others shut them down from time to time but the “Purdue’s guards will struggle against athletic teams” was struck down overall.

I mean it’s dumb to do rankings this early before the flurry of portal activity but Purdue has earned the respect/kudos to be ranked high next year. They return a lot of production and bring in a really good recruiting class.

I think Painter will get them back to the NC tbh.

Recent rumors he may come back actually. NIL check would be enormous.

I’d argue they proved it against everyone minus UConn. UConn was just on another level. They held up fine against a solid Tennessee defense.

He’ll get his chance next year but he has seemingly regressed since his freshman year.

Perspective I think. After so much heartbreak for us it was awesome to finally slay the non-F4 dragon/demon. You guys haven’t had that same dragon historically.

Bama hit 19 3’s against us and still lost. They can be fun to watch but rely a ton on the 3-ball. Purdue very well may have to win a shootout tomorrow night.

True but we maybe played a B- type game and still won by 13 with Smith having one of the worst games of his career and us turning it over a bunch. Edey only taking 2 free throws and still going for 20/12 shows how dominant he was.
