  1. One of them you know how they fit in your program the other you have no idea. One is a gamble while the other is more of a sure thing. Lance Jones didn’t ask for anything NIL-wise and just wanted the chance to show how capable he was on a bigger stage. You’re telling me Edey getting a big NIL payday to stay versus Ware getting one to come to IU are the same?
  2. To me, there’s a big difference between NIL opportunities for existing players versus using NIL to “buy” players. NIL isn’t supposed to be used to entice recruits/transfers to come to your school but there’s no way to police that. Purdue isn’t in the business of “buying” players and I don’t think that’ll change. Edey has certainly done well for himself no doubt about it. Not sure what you mean re “up their NIL game” in other areas? Our NIL is more than competitive.
  3. Sure it’s one of the reasons but you also have the randomness of a single elimination tournament that can skew things. A lot of luck plays into it and obviously I wish we had more tournament success but we’re still a damn good program even with our tournament failures IMO. What’s wild to me is how differently Painter/Purdue would be viewed if the fluke UVA ending didn’t happen. Is he any different of a coach now because of the randomness that lost us that game? No but one Final Four under his belt would change the view of him drastically which is wild to me.
  4. Catchings isn’t a legacy maybe you’re thinking of Harris?
  5. Curious how many trips past the S16 would be acceptable? Even if he had brought multiple B1G championships?
  6. From a Purdue fan’s perspective, my guess is IU would’ve let him go after his 2013 and 2014 seasons. I think they would’ve gotten antsy and pulled the plug. I think it’s clear now that those two years were an anomaly and far from the norm and it worked out that Purdue gave him the benefit of the doubt when he was going through his divorce.
  7. I think it’s a little of both tbh. I think early on Painter went for more of the higher-rated guys and missed (I’m thinking guys like Zeller and Dawson) without a great back-up plan and adjusted his approach a bit. I think he looks for great cultural fits and gets in on guys earlier than other schools do (think Kanon Catchings) and has them sold on Purdue before they blow up in the rankings. And I think he’s better about not wasting time on lost causes too. After Tyler Zeller said no, he didn’t waste any time recruiting Cody and knew it’d be a waste of time to recruit Langford. We’ll never be a program that spends big money in the transfer portal because Painter will use it to supplement/round out the roster not completely rebuild it like so many programs are doing these days.
  8. Purdue has a ton to sell right now and has for years. Solid program, solid coach, solid NIL, solid resources, etc… Not sure how that’s hard to admit.
  9. I think that’s just wishful thinking on your point and not based in reality. Would it hurt some? I’m sure it would but Painter has developed great relationships across the state which wouldn’t change even if you brought in a good coach. There are only so many scholarships to go around and the state typically produces a number of P5 players. Look at how many good players he’s landed from outside the state. His recruiting footprint goes well beyond Indiana. His 6-man 2024 class only has 2 guys from the state.
  10. He’s a 3 but likely growing into a 4. He’s put on a lot of weight/strength at OTE Academy and looks solid. My guess is two years in college.
  11. I’m guessing he’s more of a 3/4 and would be behind guys like Heide and Catchings (though Catchings will likely leave early for the league). But he likely wouldn’t get a ton of PT his freshman year.
  12. Quotes like these always make me laugh. Why should you “never lose a recruit to Purdue?” We’ve been the better program for a good period of time and I think most unbiased fans would agree. TKR, Gillis, and Furst don’t seem to mind playing with Edey. Why such sour grapes?
  13. Because Painter can give examples of how he’s utilized successful players like him? Furst and TKR just happened to coincide with one of the best big men to ever play the game (and one that was ranked in the 400’s so no one could’ve predicted how good he’d be). They’ll both have a much bigger role next year.
  14. I could see that. Painter isn’t one to pressure a guy to commit but with only one scholarship for ‘25, Sisley may feel like he doesn’t want to miss his chance to commit. Will be interesting to see.
  15. Who knows? I’m getting similar vibes to the TKR recruitment here. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if he picks Purdue.
  16. Some doozies in here (I had some bad takes too haha).
  17. You hit the nail on the head here sir, well done! He’s been a solid defender off the bench for us and a solid role player but his offense is non-existent. I was off on that one.
  18. Yeesh haha. But I’m a big Teri Moren fan and it’s nice to see a former Purdue player doing well albeit with our rival haha.
  19. How many losses in a row will this be for us? Yikes this rivalry has completely flipped lol.
  20. The guy is one of the best PG’s in the country and clearly made a huge jump from last year (one in which he was freshman All-B1G).
  21. Feels like he’s desperately doing whatever he can to try to stay relevant. I liked him when he was an analyst on games but he’s gone off the deep end a bit.
  22. Ehh he can’t resist… it’ll come back I’d imagine.
  23. Feel free to ignore big guy. Not that difficult.
  24. I’m guessing most (if not all) folks here think Dakich is a nut job? The guy was trying to throw shade at Rapheal Davis on Twitter and they’ve been going back and forth. What a hack.
  25. Purdue doesn’t play anything like they did a decade ago. They aren’t nearly as aggressive defensively and are way more of an offensive-minded team now than they were earlier in Painter's tenure.
