We are going to need to shoot in the mid 30s as a team from 3.  And it would be nice to have 2 players closers to 40% on mid to higher volume.  Is is absolutely required, no, but it has been a glaring hole for IU for quite some time.  I know people don't think its that important, but to me its the biggest missing piece we have had for years.

I see where people saying guys like Rice or Carlyle are had shooters. I don't totally agree with that because there is more to shooting than just shooting 3's. I just look at Carlyle who went 32/100 from 3 which makes him a bad shooter. If he would have just hit 5 more to go 37/100 that would have made him an above average shooter. So hitting 5 more shots over a 31 game schedule is the difference from a great shooter to a bad shooter.

I don't expect to totally rebuild every year.  But unless you're looking at a sure-fire hit, if you're going to go with a kid's upside, why not focus on freshmen that enter the portal? True, they'd only have 3 years of eligibility vs 4, but you'd also have at least some actual knowledge of how their game translates at the college level.

Not every kid that enters the portal is going to be a one-year mercenary, and we just landed a backcourt of two sophomores that could potentially play multiple years.

I still want most of the team built through HS recruits. I think it is best to use the portal to shore up missing pieces and not build your team with portal players. I think it is easy to get portal players to come here when they know it is for a starting position. I think it is just easier to build your bench with young HS players who will be happy to come off the bench.

Driving, no, but the same plane that went to Laporte from Bloomington this morning at 6 am, landed at Indy regional (12 northeast of the city) about an hour ago...short drive to Greenfield...

Be looking for a flight plan from Indy regional to Huntingburg airport this afternoon

That is probably the Mount Comfort Airport which is probably 6 miles from Greenfield

3.5hr drive Bloomington to LaPorte-- 215 miles

2hr 55 min drive LaPorte to Greenfield- 170 miles

3hr 5min drive Greenfield to Heritage Hills- 165 miles

It's not even doable in a day.

Last week in the morning I drove from Indy to Kokomo and back to Indy. In the after noon I went from Indy to Salem then back to Indy. Actually was in Brownstown twice last week.

I still think we need to find a true point guard. Rice may be an OK part time at the 1, Cupps isn't even close to being a true PG (yet), and I'd rather have Gallo @ 2-3.

We've got the opening, just need to fill it. Seems like most of the attention in the portal is 2-5 positions. (we needed those as well, but I'd like a knock down shooter point guard)

Rice is a true point guard

Back at the subject, Goode would slot nicely into the current roster.  Would be tough for me seeing him play the 4 unless you're temporarily going small.  Looks like a natural 3 to me.  I don't remember Miller Kopp being a real effective 4 in IU's system.

I hate the idea of waiting a whole week to resolve this one, but I guess there are enough open spots to give him a week.  Just seems silly when he likely already knows.

I can see a rotation where Goode comes in for Reneau and we move MM to the 4 with Ballo. Later Reneau comes in for Ballo so you can have 4 guys rotating for 3 spots

Do you have a link to those stats one percentage of schools that don't use all 13 scholarships?  I would have guessed most schools use all of them.

I don't recall very many years where IU went through a season with an open scholarship but don't follow other schools to know if that's normal.

I heard  people talking about coach K didn't use all 13 scholarships

It was the circumstances. IU had insufficient guard depth and experience in 22/23 when XJ got injured. They had even less last season when he was injured again. Filling the 13th scholarship doesn't necessarily mean it's the last guy off the bench.

I know but if we get Goode and another big it wouldn't be the end of the world not using the last scholarship. If your 10-12 players are Cupps, Newton and Leal your roster is pretty good. It is going to get harder to fill all of your spots because players aren't transferring to sit the bench

So is Goode a higher priority over Anderson?

    Goode: 5.7 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 0.6 APG, 39.7 FG%, 38.9 3FG%

    Anderson: 12.8 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 1.9 APG, 48.2 FG%, 45.9 3FG%

Of course, Goode is playing against tougher competition, at least in conference.

Take it for what it is worth but on the other site Chris said that Anderson is looking for more playing time than IU can offer

I don’t think they can afford to lose game two though.

They have to win the next game. Also looking forward we still need a starting 2 and 3. I just don't think Neimhard should be a starting 2 on a playoff team
