  1. As a low risk-high reward prospectā€¦ I was sold on that volleyball spike/block that bounced 13 feet after smashing the floor. Kidding aside, you never know until you know. What I know is that you always recruit athletes with major upside. Sometimes you end up with an OG Anunnoby or Victor Oladipo, and worst caseā€¦ a guy that doesnā€™t crack the rotation and transfers after two years. Either way, sign me up for the potential and sell me on the work.Ā

  2. Not upset by thisā€¦ Dusty still has a lot to prove. I hate how we always latch on to guys because they had a big run through the tournament, and especially if they have any ties to Indiana. Dusty could very well go on to have an amazing career at Michigan, but Iā€™m not sure about it. We fell for that with Archie and he was out of his league as soon as he stepped foot in Bloomington. Iā€™m not saying we donā€™t go young again, but I feel like the next move will be for a seasoned veteran.Ā

  3. I canā€™t speak for Sparks, but it seemed like CJ and Caleb regressed from their freshman seasons. I think under the right coach and circumstances, they could potentially flourish. It appears that Woodsonā€™s version of IUBB isnā€™t focused on developing the rosterā€¦ just the top of the roster.Ā

This is from another boards insider. Take it however you want-Iā€™m not saying itā€™s true or accurate.

First thing's first, congrats to the IU women on the 4-seed and hosting opportunity. Tough draw, but they call it madness for a reason. Secondly, love you guys and this community, but goodness you're not shy about using the private message feature. Sorry for ghosting many of you but easier to just post publicly.

And, now that I've effectively buried the lead, Woodson is back next year with a couple caveats and interesting details:

    - Meeting Tuesday happened as scheduled and talk was future of the basketball program and specifically how Woody fits in that plan

    - Though Dolson and BoT disagree about it happening now, consensus was that this isn't the bridge hire they'd hoped for and this is his last year barring some miracle B1G championship or FF run next year that would make for bad optics.

    - Woodson was given the opportunity to retire and go out amicably but said no and that he thinks he can use the portal to put us in a better position to transition to another coach after next year.

    - Dolson laid out expectations for portal results and win/loss results next season that would result in letting Woody go; just my opinion but it sounds like Buckner, boosters, etc. got him the 4th year but Scotty Dolson has his finger on the eject button and Woodson knows it. Fully expect him to announce a "planned retirement" next year so he can go out on his "own terms"

    - For what it's worth, Dolson did put out feelers and got positive feedback on interest from 2 of his top 3 potential replacement candidates; think we can get May with a text message, Pearl has serious interest but wouldn't make a move if his team makes a FF run or wins a natty.Ā

    - I think we as a fanbase/board are higher on Dusty than the administration/BoT; sounds like they're only interested in a homerun hire, win now guy if they do move and risking a third straight miss isn't something they're willing to do and just because he has IU ties and made a good tourney run, feeling is May isn't a guarantee at this level.

That's what I've got that I'm able to share comfortably right now. Not what myself or anybody on this board probably wants to hear. Moral is one more year is 95% likely (everyone root for UCONN in the S16, and a miracle!) It's kind of messy internally and they're trying to move on to get IU back to a top tier program while letting Woodson ride into the sunset having left the program in a good place and "stepping aside" for the good of the program. ??

I agree about Dusty May. He might very well be one of our own, but that hire would scream Archie to me. Indiana needs someone who has credentials nationally, and who can both recruit high school stars and portal prospects alike. A couple of decent tournament runs at a place that doesnā€™t demand much wonā€™t cut itā€¦ or at least I hope that ship has sailed.

  5. Weā€™re going to be looking for a new head coach in Madison. The juniors, or seniors to be next year is a big class of 6. At one point there were 14 in that class, but some transfers and natural attrition ran its course. Watching the Cubs not being able to get over the hump this season is a big part of why things didnā€™t work out. They lost 12 games by 8 or less, 9 games by 6 or less and actually had the lead in 8 of the 12 games with under 5 minutes left in each of the 8 respective games. Lots of tension at Madison, and some with unrealistic expectations. Itā€™s clearly not what is used to be, and is no longer viewed as a great jobā€¦. hasnā€™t been in some time. But, they have a decent six man senior class coming in that should make them a tough group.Ā

My Braves have been banged up all year...Ā

Benter has dealt with a calf strain, broken bone in foot, and had 103 degree temp yesterday to work through. He missed the Attucks, LN, Ev Christian games.. and was NOT 100% against Jenn Co.Ā

Colby Hall has been out for 3 weeks with an ankle sprain, he played big mins yesterday... be missed the Providence, SW Hanover, and Sullivan games.Ā

Micah Sheffer was out a month with a broken vertebrae.Ā

Now... we get 2 weeks to get right before Wapahani.Ā

I like their chances. Theyā€™ve had a great run with this group.

First off, congrats to @btownqbĀ for his alma-mater Braves making it to the 2A State Championship game.

And, congrats to Mid-Southern Conference foe Scottsburg for making it to the 3A Championship.

Finally, congrats to the Jeffersonville Red Devils, for a great season that fell 1 point short in the 4A South Semi-State Championship.Ā Ā

The Fouls family is visiting my wife's parents in the South bend area this weekend, and my son's birthday is this weekend as well.Ā  His birthday wish was to watch some semi-state basketball, but since we were not home to watch one of the locals, we went to Elkhart for the 4A North Semi-State instead.

Morning session featured Fishers beating Crown Point.Ā  Fishers led comfortably most of the way, but Crown Point did cut it to 5 with couple of minutes left before Fishers pulled away again at the end.

The second morning game was Mishawaka vs. Fort Wayne Wayne.Ā  One of the strangest games I've ever seen.Ā  Mishawaka controlled the first half and led by 9 at the break.Ā  Wayne proceeded to open the 2nd half on a 20-0 run and cruised from there.

The Championship game featured a fantastic 1st half that ended in a 36-36 tie.Ā  In a reversal of the morning session, Wayne was on the short end of a big run coming out of the half as Fishers scored the first 10 points of the 3rd quarter.Ā  Wayne threatened to get back in it a couple of times, bit never could get over the hump. and Fishers ultimately won by 8.Ā  Ā Some ref had to make it about him by assessing a technical on Fishers with 0.3 seconds on the clock.Ā  The Wayne players had already walked off the court.Ā  I'm not sure what the ;T' was for, unless it was the Fishers bench stepping onto the court to celebrate before the buzzer sounded.

    Players of note we saw:

    • Dikembe Shaw - Sophomore wing for Crown Point.Ā  Extremely athletic with raw skills that could become something if developed.Ā Ā
    • Jevon Lewis - Senior point guard for Wayne.Ā  Small, but oneĀ of the quickest players I've ever seen.Ā  Took some bad shots, but wreaked havoc, and dominated at timesĀ defensively, especially in the morning session.
    • Chase Barnes - JuniorĀ wing for Wayne.Ā  My favorite player of the day.Ā Ā Ā Smart, good handles, super-sweetĀ mid range pull-up game.Ā  Scored over 20 points both games, but did miss some crucial free throws in 4th quarter of Championship,Ā  I really, really, liked this kid's game and hope he gets a chance to play D1 somewhere.Ā Ā
    • Cooper Zachary -Ā  Freshmen PG for Fishers.Ā  Did not have big stats in either game, but starting at PG for the best team in the state speaks volumes.Ā  Watching the kid dribble and shoot in warmups was eye-popping.Ā  Probably on 5'9 or 5'10 at most, so probably needs to grow 3-4 more inches to reach full potential.
    • Jason Gardner Jr.Ā  - Freshmen guard for Fishers and son of former Mr. Basketball.Ā  Came off bench, but showed flashes driving to the basket.Ā  Needs to improve his shot to approach the success of his dad, but I expect that will come with time.Ā Ā Ā

    Ā

    Ā

Jasonā€™s dad showed us the door back in the late 90ā€™s. We were a very good team, but he was by far the best player on the floor. We went to the Seymour semi state, and watched Scottsburg get revenge on GC. Scottsburg did not sub one timeā€¦ all five starters played every minute of the game. Iā€™ve never seen that, but know that they only played six deep all year long. Theyā€™ll lose almost everything next season, but theyā€™re making the most of it. Iā€™d say BC and Scottsburg have a strong chance to win it in their respective classes. What a fantastic run by Jeff! They will be very, very good next season. I heard that the Washington kid might very well look to join Sherron and the Red Devils next season. That could be scary for the HHC!

He will do better somewhere else, book it. Ā It wasnā€™t going to happen here and that is damning to player development here. Ā

I agree. Although we havenā€™t been consistently good in some timeā€¦ IU is no longer, or I should say can no longer be a place to fully develop. IU, along with any other program that spends big money on players, will look for instant impact, whether it be from top tier high school players or the portal.

  9. Going into the season, CJā€™s development was going to be paramount in order for IU to have a successful year. I have watched from afar and donā€™t understand how Woodson hasnā€™t been able to help this young man. I was told multiple times heading into the new school year that the most improved player during the offseason was CJG. I mean, you can see the raw abilities, but he needs reps, and IU(now/portal era) is no longer in the development game.Ā

    NIT bound?Ā Ā

They should, but theyā€™ll probably turn their irrelevant nose up to it. The NIT was always good for young teams in the past, but the current landscape screams no, primarily due to constant roster turnover thanks to NIL and the portal.

Until thereā€™s a different coach I donā€™t see that happening. Woodson is stubborn and thinks he knows better.Ā

Itā€™s the entire program. The philosophy and their inability to escape the past.Ā

Edit: But a coaching change would be a step in the right direction.
