  1. I don't remember Comar. But I do recall reading about a similar position under Sampson (maybe) which was filled by an ex-college coach. I don't remember his name.
  2. Modeling is important. I don't think you teach these things in the sense of a classroom in this case.
  3. Adding to what Scott says I think it is helpful for the players to know that they are playing for something bigger than themselves, that past players have been successful, that they have the support of past players.
  4. Woodson will gives us a chance to keep TJD. He can sit him down and tell him put your name in the draft and get some advice. But I've watched you play and viewed your tapes, and they are going to tell you XYZ. Is what I can give you is daily instruction to make you a great NBA prospect Also, we will be playing an NBA offense. You will get to show the NBA teams what you can do. I also know that you really love school and playing for IU. I played four years for IU, and I loved it, too. I still do love IU, and my daughter went to school here and played volleyball. She loved it. I got to play in the NBA for 12 years, and I was a head coach in the NBA for 9 years and an assistant for many more. But this is your last chance ever to play for IU. I'll support you in whatever you decide, and you are always welcome back to see us. There is a lot of talent on this team. Franklin and Lander are very talented, and I think they would both thrive with Woodson's coaching and NBA offense. We have some other players who are good pieces. This hire will be big news because it's Indiana and it's new. Sports writer's love to talk about this. Lots of free pub. What is Indiana doing? Is it like UM? Is this the trend in CB? Will it work? Buckle up guys and gals!
  5. I think some of the delay may have been defining Matta's role. Maybe they thought of him as an associate head coach like Phil Martelli, but it was decided that this was not the best way to do it. That may explain all the smoke we saw about Matta and that he was hired as HC and flunked a physical. He may not have flunked a physical, but this was a distorted view of the plan for his new position.
  6. Look recruiting is going to change drastically. The NBA is going to change the "one-and-done" rule and probably eventually eliminate it. This will change what coaches like Cal and Coach K do. They will now have to develop players (I'm not saying they can't do that but that it's a change.) The NBA has the 2-way contract and that will be a viable alternative to college for many top recruits. Recruiting will then be about finding and developing the "borderline" prospects and mixing them with 3 or 4 year players. Remember we have the state of the art tech on recording and reviewing basketball games courtesy of Mark Cuban, who is certainly a well known name as a leading NBA owner. How many teams will have a former NBA coach as HC? Very, very few. And our history. Isn't the "hurryin' Hoosiers" the ideal name for this new age of college basketball? What about marketing these players? We have some things going for us there, also.

  8. You guys are a bunch of "fuddy duddies". We keep doing the same thing over-and-over and failing. Now Dolson does something out of the box to revive the program, and all you can do is whine. Weren't you listening when he said he wants a "cutting edge" offense" that would attract aspiring players. The landscape of college basketball is going to change rapidly. Soon athletes can be paid for their images, etc. Why not hire an NBA coach who is an ex-player to teach NBA offense and handle athletes who are no longer strictly amateur? Why hire a great former coach to help oversee the transition?
  9. I know we're all very disappointed that we didn't get Stevens. Any other coach seems like a let down. Bummer. But look at it this way: We almost hired away the successful head coach of one of the 2 or 3 most iconic pro teams in all of U.S. history. Yeah I know "close" only counts with hand grenades, atom bombs, etc. But Dolson and IU almost did something that pretty much all of the fan base, NBA insiders, media, etc. thought was impossible. If Stevens would have went to IU, that would be an all-time shocker. Combined with Dolson's handling of Archie's firing I'm real sure we have the right guy in the AD position (or VP of whatever). So the saga continues.
  10. The only really specific thing about a new coach that Dolson has said is that he wants someone who will run a "cutting edge" offense. One that fans and players would like. The rest of his statement indicated he was talking about NBA offense. That would tell me that Musselman much more likely than Beard.
  11. Bad for Brad. BILLIONS for Brad! OK. I think I'm dreaming. Brad said he wasn't taking the IU job. Then the server blows on this site, and we're off for a few days. I come back and all of you say Brad's coming. So am I just dreaming or are all of you on drugs? I noted that Dolson said he's hiring a coach who will implement a cutting edge offense that's fun to watch and fun for the players. He referenced the NBA (Sorry IUScott). That would probably eliminate a lot of candidates. If Brad comes, can this site's server survive? Stay tuned!
  12. I'll say! Gave up only 7 runs in 4 game. IU not going to lose many games if they keep this up.
  13. Thanks for the article, Rico. The Cubs were built on great pitching. The hitting was good, but it has never reached its potential. This year the pitching staff is not rated very high. But could change. The guy to watch is Aldozay. If the pitching isn't there the Cubs will be selling.
  14. Should've watched the whole Reds game! Much less agony that way.
  15. CJ has an IU tee shirt just like mine! Who'd of thunk it?
  16. Well he did get to play quite a bit as a frosh. Certainly more than Lander has. He was injured as a soph., but it wasn't anything that was chronic though didn't get to practice as much as he would've without the injuries.
  17. I'm from NE Indiana and I remember Bavis, and his story is a tragic one. However, he had a great HS and college career. In HS he played for the Garrett Railroaders which was a small school. There was another 7 footer on the team as well as an excellent guard who I believe went to Florida. Many teams stalled against Garrett because of their size and skill. Garrett was a local and state power house for a few years in mid-60's.
  18. These 2 teams would be a good rematch for the state championship.
  19. Gee would could finish a couple of places ahead of MSU and still not make the NCAAT.
  20. It was Lowery who made the pass. After the game in the fashion of a real leader, he said it was all the shot, the pass was nothing.
  21. I read that Juwan the first undrafted player to start in a playoff game in his first year.
