  1. I liked CTA as a person and I think he wanted very badly to succeed here, but everything I've read or heard since CCC has been here suggests that he was in way over his head. Wanting to get it done is nothing compared to having a plan to get it done. I have no idea what our record will be this year, but I am absolutely convinced we will be a significantly better football team.
  2. Manual exposure with a self is the best way to go. Have to get the shutter speed high enough to get the corona properly exposed. I took a few quick shots during totality but didn't have time to really dial it in. I was also responsible for looking out for four grandkids so I was a little distracted. Kids really got into the totality part, the rest, not so much.
  3. I can't believe she was married to Dario Franchitti. Never forget her running down pit lane barefoot in the rain after his last 500 win.
  4. I have to say that my hatred for all things Purdue is mitigated somewhat by the likeability of Coach Painter. From everything I've seen and heard from him, he is a first-class guy. I like the way he coaches, the way he builds teams, and the way he conducts himself in post game press conferences. That being said, I hope they lose the next game.
  5. I graduated from Westfield in 1966 in a class of 66 students. Lived in or around the area all my life. I don't recognize anything anymore.
  6. I actually enjoy watching a Purdue guy and an Illinois fan go back and forth on an IU board. Incredible! But, I guess after the season we are having I guess it's better than nothing.
  7. I just re-read "Black Noon" by Art Garner about the 1964 race. I cannot recommend it highly enough, especially for anyone who remembers racing from the 50's and 60' s. The background material about drivers and owners alone is worth the read. "Al Unser Jr: A Checkered Past" is also excellent. The behind the scenes stuff makes these bigger than life drivers more human. For hard-core fans, Track Forum is a great sort of information. One poster, NIF I think is his username, provides great insight into the technical side of things from a crew members perspective. It's not a place for the faint of heart. Those guys can get a little rough.
  8. IUPUI is no more. Just IU Indianapolis now.
  9. Purdue has enough talent to win it all with the right match ups. They can also be an early exit with the wrong ones. All depends on the draw.
  10. I fear it is humps all the way down.
  11. I just want the top teams to quit looking at IU as a week off.
  12. One of my favorite places in the world is at the top of the grandstand in turn four. Great view of the entire speedway and the skyline of downtown Indy. Nothing much better than a beautiful spring day at IMS (and a few cold ones).
  13. I probably should have included all of the greater Indy area as fertile ground for recruits. Give the proximity to IU, I would think CCC will be a frequent visitor to the area.
  14. Having lived in the community for over 40 years, I completely agree. For those who don't know, Carmel has the biggest high school in the state and their athletic program is second to none across the board. Their football team is always in the conversation for the state big school championship. Not relevant here, but Camel's girls swim team has the longest consecutive state championships string in the nation. I wouldn't scoff at anyone coming out of Carmel.
  15. Now there's a name I haven't heard mentioned in a long time. I went to school with him one year in junior high school. He's definitely on the list of the five best shooters I've ever seen.
  16. I have grandkids who are constantly underdressed for the conditions. They have never experienced what it is like to be caught outside by some kind of problem unprepared. They don't understand layers or wearing gloves. It has to be a generational thing but ,growing up on a farm, it drives me crazy.
  17. The narrative is definitely different with CCC. He seems to understand the psychology of the game as well as the mechanics. To me, there is nothing about him that is similar to our previous coach.
  18. Understatement of the year.
  19. All true. They are among a handful of programs who are the gold standard of college football. But beating them starts with believing you can. I wouldn't want to coach a team that went into any game thinking it had already lost.
  20. We significantly upgraded our non-conference schedule and a consequence of that is you can get your a$$ beat on any given night. Most of these games were closer than we would have liked but they made the team work for the win. I believe has made the team better. I'll withhold judgement on what we can or can't do until I see a few games with us at full strength.
  21. After reading the last few pages, I have concluded that young men should be very cautious with girls they don't know who they just met in a bar. Consent is a very tricky deal these days. Human nature being what it is, young men and young women make bad decisions, especially when alcohol is involved. In this case, something traumatic took place or maybe it didn't. I don't know what to think.
  22. Football players can usually find new girlfriends, if you know what I mean.
  23. I always took the opposite approach and said I didn't want the other team to score, at all.
