  1. I've been in it for the same amount of time. I agree 100% with your frustration because I've gone though the same experience. There is NO excuse for the Indiana football team to be a historically bad program. But, yet here we are. I'll concede we probably can't compete with the top four or five teams in the conference, but everyone else should be fair game. And, absolutely no excuse for Nortwestern, with their academics, being consistently better than IU.
  2. I think the CTA experiment is over. It's just going to drag on for another couple of years. We are the walking dead. It won't really damage the program because right now there is nothing left to damage. We have time to put a plan together to make IU football relevant. The question is do we have the will to do it.
  3. I like the way you think. That team was surprisingly good and set the table for what was to come. Can this one do the same? Maybe, just maybe they can.
  4. To me, it has to start with both lines. No decent skill position player would want to play behind the offensive line we have had the past two years. Coach Wilson at least understood that. To me, building an offense has to start there. The same with the defense. Our secondary has way too much pressure put on them to make plays after the line loses containment. As long as our line play remains the same, it's going to be rinse and repeat year after year.
  5. I also want to say that I appreciate this board as a place where an open and honest conversation can take place about difficult things. We all come here for IU athletics but we also all have other things going on in our lives. Thanks for listening. It helps.
  6. Both of our children would be among those living under a bridge if not for us. We worry constantly about what will happen to them after we are gone. We are going to set up a trust that we will provide for them for a while, but we don't have the assets to take care of them for as long as they may need.
  7. Appreciate your comments. It is difficult but it is also family. You don't love them less because they have an illness they didn't ask for or is no fault of their own. We have taken a twelve week support class and participated in local support groups and have learned so much about mental illness. It is truly misunderstood by the public. Sadly, nothing will change until our society quits treating the mentally ill as an inconvenient nuisance and starts treating them like human beings with value.
  8. I have a mentally ill step son, schizophrenia, and my wife and I have been trying to deal with it for about thirty years. I also have a daughter who suffers from depression if not bi-polar disorder. We have done everything in our power to help both of them. The current laws make it really difficult to get information from the people who treat them, if you can convince them to get help. My daughter has five kids who we love very much. We support them financially and have had them living with us at various times. The youngest is a five year old granddaughter who is the most precious thing to me. As much of a problem as this is from the outside, it is that much worse when you have to deal with it from the inside. As a country, we don't prioritize helping the mentally ill no matter how much lip service we pay to it. There was an article recently in the local paper about Jim Irsay's struggles with addiction and the family's problems with mental health. The point was that it is just as hard for wealthy, famous people as it is for the poor. It is not!
  9. I got a good chuckle out of the rant. Nobody in power now wants low gas prices. Driving up the price to reduce consumption is the current energy policy. As I've said before, the wealthy don't really care about the price of gas. The poor on the other hand have to make difficult choices and often have to do without something essential.
  10. I never got banned, but then I never posted tweets. I tried to follow people I liked and unsubscribe or block everything else. Even after doing that it was so toxic that finally gave up and deleted my account. I never started with Facebook for the same reasons. That and privacy concerns. Anonymous platforms seem to bring out the lowest common denominator of humanity.
  11. It's not about those of us who don't endorse the lyrics or that genre of music. It's about what connects with today's kids and what makes them feel like IU is a viable destination. We all want the best talent so we can't really dictate the terms by which we acquire that talent.
  12. I agree with everything you said but recognize we could be looking at a three win season considering how we have played. I will gladly take any win we can get.
  13. How money gets allocated is always going to be questioned depending on priorities. Mine have always been need based. But everyone has the right to prioritize according to what matters most to them. Personally, I think the cesspool has gotten worse.
  14. The first two games have not instilled much confidence in me. But Saturday is a new day and a new opportunity to be the team I hoped we would be.
  15. Saw Mellencamp at Market Square Arena In the early '80s when he opened for Heart. I actually felt sorry for them because all the energy left the building after he finished playing.
  16. NIL has changed things completely. A large check can change a kid's mind in a heartbeat. Not saying anything like that is going on here, but.....
  17. I absolutely get that. But going forward we can't hope to have a drive at the end of the game to win. Watching the game, I could not believe we were down by 1 for a good part of the game. They seemed to be doing everything but scoring. That kind of effort won't win us many games unless Illinois is way better than I think. I like our potential on defense but the offense didn't show me enough to think we are headed to a bowl game.
  18. I really felt like Illinois lost the game more than we won it. I'll take it because sometimes that's the way a game goes. But I thought that for most of the game they were the better team.
  19. Just goes to show that he is really good at something.
  20. A few years ago I was having trouble getting a reading on my home BP monitor. I decided to go to a walk in clinic to have it checked. When they took the reading it was 240/135. They sent me directly to the hospital where it took three hours to get down enough so I could go home. I didn't have a headache or any other pains. I still don't know why it spiked and it has never happened since. The attending doctor wrote in the notes that I had a headache even though I told them every time they asked that I did not. It was disconcerting to say the least. The worst part still is not knowing why.
  21. We are not selling immediate playing time anymore, which is a very good thing. The next step is selling kids on being a part of a team that contends for a national title year in and year out. A great season this year will help with that. I think we have the talent and depth to make some noise this year. We have two really good players already committed and an opportunity to add to that before all is said and done. I'm going to worry too much about kids we don't get.
  22. Those guys scare me. I read but don't post over there. They make the IU forums look like church socials.
  23. Lots of cynical speculation on Track Forum but no one believes it will have anything to do with starting a team. Most think it will be a "Tony" centric announcement. Perhaps something to do with the museum. He tagged several racing series so we'll see.
  24. I agree. But if the skill set didn't fill a need maybe we will be better off looking somewhere else. CMW seems to have a plan and we can only take so many of the same type players. Anyway, those making the decisions are way smarter than me.
  25. Man, that's not what I expected. All were wearing seatbelts and the air bags deployed.... how fast were the cars going to be fatal for everyone? I hope there is a reasonable explanation for her car crossing the center line.
