  1. A Dr raises some good points here- https://www.theepochtimes.com/whos-really-being-hospitalized_3963392.html?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=ZeroHedge We have always known the #s are unreliable. I think it was a mistake to over promote the vaccines as stopping / lessening transmission and a 98% effectiveness in preventing Covid. They obviously do lessen the severity and therefore deaths but they clearly aren't as effective as originally advertised at prevention or minimizing transmission. Would have been much more helpful if the CDC and others set clear expectations from the beginning. Boosters, especially if the formula hasn't changed to account for variants, don't seem to make much sense to me at this point.
  2. Heartbreaking that 50+ dogs were left behind 😢
  3. Its going to take awhile to get the lights back on in New Orleans.... Energy provider Entergy Corp has been surveying the damage since Monday and has found 207 transmission lines spanning more than 2,000 miles have been knocked out by the storm, according to WSJ.
  4. Been a bit since I've checked in on this thread. Thought I'd share a quick story about my German Shepherd. 2 weekends ago we took him to the dog friendly Weko beach for a walk along the Lake Michigan Beach. He is not much of a water dog, or a walker, but he went along with it. Thinking the exercise and 90 degree day would have tired him out, we stopped at the Haymarket Brewery afterwards. They have a large outdoor area where dogs are allowed. It was busy and after a short wait we got our table. Had our pizza and beer. There were at least half a dozen other dogs there all laying down, some under the tables for shade. Our Jack never sat down once. He was standing at alert watching all the goings on and everyone that walked near us. Was neat seeing the working dog side of him in action.

  6. Iowa game notes- https://hawkeyesports.com/news/2021/08/27/game-notes-iowa-vs-indiana-2/ I hope we blow this up- 7: Iowa has played 22 straight games without surrendering 25 points, the longest streak in the nation among Power 5 teams. The Hawkeyes ranked No. 1 in the nation in 2020 in defensive yards per play (4.3). Iowa ranked No. 2 in the conference in total defense (313.8) and scoring defense (16.0), No. 3 in rush defense (107.6) and No. 5 in pass defense (206.1).
  7. I'm excited to get this season under way. I think a key will be stopping their run and establishing our running game. If we can do that, I like our chances.
  8. I've done the Meyers Briggs as well as a couple others many years ago in my corporate days. Don't recall what I am. These are incredibly useful for high school Jrs looking to see which colleges may be a good fit, college freshman trying to decide on a major, and or other young adults trying to decide on a career path.
  9. Great to see First Line Brewing honoring the fallen- https://www.instagram.com/p/CTF0n7frFHG/
  10. I hope so. Avoid the drops and the stage is set for a big season.
  11. I'm not saying not to get vaccinated- especially older and at risk groups. It is more a point that if you have natural immunity, there is a much lower benefit to you from a vaccine and that should be weighed against the risks. Were you making the same argument for the Flu vaccine? Look at the stats- https://www.lifesitenews.com/opinion/scientist-delta-variant-more-transmissible-not-more-deadly/ The CDC’s latest breakthrough numbers, as of July 25, show 6,587 fully vaccinated people with COVID breakthrough cases. Of those, 1,263 people died. The vaccine didn't help them NBC News contacted health agencies in 50 states and the District of Columbia to collect information on breakthrough cases, citing a lack of comprehensive data available from the CDC. Data collected from 38 states showed more than 125,000 fully vaccinated Americans tested positive for COVID, and 1,400 died. Hmmm, Incomplete and inaccurate data... 6500 vs 125,000 break through cases! Hope that is not driving lockdown decisions. The Delta variant that everyone is so worried about may be 20x less lethal than Covid. Virus evolution 101 according to Brian Hooker, Ph.D., P.E., Children’s Health Defense chief scientific officer and professor of biology at Simpson University. Anyone concerned that getting so many vaccinated may be leading to more vaccine resistant strains? https://childrenshealthdefense.org/defender/vaccinated-people-key-role-evolution-dangerous-covid-variants/ Early signs are that the Delta wave is peaking yet new restrictions are just starting. I went in Costco this week only to be given a mask and told that they are now mandatory. When natural immunity counts equally as vaccine (as it does in Europe) I will know the science is outweighing the politics.
  12. I think most people knew this. Now we have confirmation. Natural immunity 13x more effective against the Delta variant than the vaccines- https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/08/having-sars-cov-2-once-confers-much-greater-immunity-vaccine-no-infection-parties
  13. Enjoying some nice thunder and lightning now here. Quite the light show. Grass is going to be growing good

  15. "The Pac-12 appears to be the conference "driving" the new alliance, per ESPN." Hope this was because the feared being raided by the B1G. Kudos to their commish for showing some leadership.
  16. Kudos to his parents for getting a tax deduction on their sons food. That has to add up to a sizeable amount!
  17. Past the Delta peak? Time for lockdowns?

  20. Love it! Welcome Jalen and congrats to the IU coaching staff. #5 class in the nation !!!!
  21. I just heard some Dr from John Hopkins on the radio talking about this. He brought up something I hadn't heard before. He said the vaccine may be more effective with the second dose given 3 months after the first instead of 3 weeks. Would probably cut down a lot of side effects as well. And that children may only need one dose. And Moderna should be approved as well in a couple weeks.
  22. Terrible situation in TN w 10 dead and dozens more missing due to flash floods from as much as 17" of rain in 12 hours https://amp.tennessean.com/amp/8227696002
  23. The alliance it is... Not sure how much teeth it will have. Is the alliance going to stop an ACC team from moving to the SEC? I think the administrators chickened out on a bold move and played it safe. I think the Pac 10 and ACC benefit from this more than we do.
  24. Shortly after leaving home to go to IU for the fall semester, a deer ran into my front quarter panel and bounced off. Just minor damage. Aside from that, I'm amazed I haven't hit much with the driving I do. For many years, I was putting on 25k+ miles per year. Only other incidents I can recall are birds getting hit.
