  1. Made it up to 90 degrees today, with a heat index of 103, humidity in the 80's and a dew point of 78. No heat advisory issued. I'm certain we've had heat advisories in the past when the numbers were lower than this.
  2. Spencer Torkelson is finally starting to perform like a #1 overall pick. Eight home runs in the last 12 games and just had his second 4-hit game in the last two weeks.
  3. Been a rough week for the NWS when it comes to tornado warnings. Last weekend, there was a spotter a couple counties away from me who reported a cone-shaped funnel almost reaching the ground, with a strong signature on radar, and no warning was ever issued. Then this afternoon, this happened near Crawfordsville and somehow slipped through the cracks.
  4. The Tigers are so freaking bad...haven't won more than 2 in a row since Memorial Day.
  5. I can't believe it's 2023 and we still have tornadoes touching down and doing damage before a warning even goes out.
  6. MLB should schedule those games for later in the season then. It doesn't mean they need more games with each other.
  7. That number was in the 70's before, or almost half the schedule. Playing the same four teams that many times gets pretty stale after awhile.
  8. Eventually, it won't even feel like we're playing conference games anymore. We'll just be playing games. I guess it's not the end of the world, but beating Purdue and Michigan twice is a hell of lot more rewarding than beating USC, UCLA, Washington and Oregon once each would be.
  9. Teagle is already pissing off the helicopter parents and I'm here for it. He's had the kids in the gym at 6 a.m. treating it like an actual practice: working on screens, cuts, ball reversals, basic fundamental stuff. He's made it clear he's not interested in whiny parents or armchair coaches, it's his program and if the parents don't like it, they are welcome to remove their child from the team. We won't be good this year but it's so nice to see this kind of hard-nosed leadership again.
  10. It's been weird where I live. In June everything was going south of us, and in July it feels like everything has been going north. No damage here last night, although we did get a severe thunderstorm warning (the typical "60 mph winds" that are probably more like 40 mph). NWS crews are looking at Portland and the northwest side of Fort Wayne for possible tornado damage. Also, I want to give credit to weather forecasters, who hear all kinds of insults when they're wrong but crickets when they're right. The forecasts this week were spot on, and July/August storm systems are hard to predict because the jet stream is all over the place.
  11. Anyone else get a rude awakening from last night's storms? Finally got slammed after a week's worth of storm cells skipping us/fizzling out.
  12. I remember a season where the Tigers went 15-4 against the Indians and finished 1 game ahead of them to win the division.
  13. The Tigers scored 10 runs tonight, which for any other team would be like scoring 25, and still managed to lose to the Royals. Woof.
  14. .316 OBP isn't very good. The Tigers have the worst offense in baseball and have 4 guys with a higher OBP than that. Luckily he hits home runs or he'd probably be in the minors by now.
  15. Does anyone at ESPN do any research anymore? The Tigers took Max Clark with the third overall pick, and mentioned he was the best player to come out of Indiana since Bryan Bullington, who played for IU. Except, Bullington didn't play for IU, he played for Ball State. Probably written by someone who was multi-tasking this article and a story about what Wemby will have for breakfast tomorrow.
  16. It's crazy how badly Archie Miller flubbed that class. He had all the hallmarks of a low-energy recruiter while he was here. He must have had an amazing interview that was totally out of character for him when he applied for the job.
  17. It's a threat when you have the worst offense in MLB and your pitchers are under a ton of pressure to not give up runs. Even though everyone wants to see a no-hitter, winning the game is more important.
  18. I know you'd rather see pitchers throw until they drop, but the score was only 2-0, the Blue Jays had a mini-threat going and Manning was starting to labor.
  19. 9th* no-hitter in Tigers' history. *Actually the 10th, even if the record books don't show it.
  20. That's nothing...you should see how much it takes them to score a run.
  21. I'm shocked (well, not really) at how many articles ESPN has been putting out referring to him as "Wemby." I can't recall any player, in any sport, getting that kind of treatment before even playing a real game.
  22. Lmao, 23 again this week. The Pirates are still below them despite sweeping them last time they met and having 5 more wins.
  23. I'm not sure what their record will end up, but I have a hard time believing they'll go into February with only one loss again.
  24. I think a lot of non-Cardinals fans are enjoying this. At this point I'm honestly curious what it would take for them to drop any lower than 24 on ESPN's power rankings.
  25. Hoping against all hope that the $32 million Cabrera is getting this season will help overpay for a couple bats next season.
