  1. I look forward to the first portal announcement that doesn’t use the words “with that being said.”
  2. Man, Duke is getting gutted. I read that this is their eighth departure. Power is someone we recruited so I wonder if we reach out.
  3. I like Reneau in the post on offense but his defense and rebounding wouldn’t be good enough, as of now at least. He can also improve his passing. Ballo from what I saw (not a ton, mind you) can come out and hunt screens. That might be a clever way to give Reneau space inside. But on D he can be essential.
  4. You would have enjoyed the short shorts we wore in the 1980s. 🤦‍♂️
  5. I had been a backer of hers but mainly because the last president was incompetent. However, and I don’t have any dogs in these fights, I do know enough about large business and leadership to know that this isn’t good leadership. Good leadership can find compromise and creative solutions to resolve competing interests particularly in a university where exchange of thought is critical. This will bear watching but I wouldn’t call this a ringing endorsement of her ability. We will see if she recovers.
  6. Regarding Indiana State, I posted this a couple of months ago, but I think they probably would have finished third in the B1G. Granted, it was a pathetic league this year, but after Purdue and Illinois, I think they were better. They got totally screwed by big school bias in the tourney. The proof is basically that all their starters are switching out to big schools. So, by definition, they had big school talent. Kent and Larry moved to Texas. Duke and a host of other big schools mentioned with Avila. We know about Conwell. Etc.
  7. I was pounding the table on Conway as early as anyone so I am not going to walk it back now. I truly think he’s the perfect starting two guard for us. Tough kid, plays hard, good shooter. I think he would go to the top of Woody’s favorite players if we were to get him. If Carlyle and Rice were a package deal and were sold on being a combo, then that’s smart recruiting through because you get two dynamic guys in here. But I do think Conwell would start and Carlyle would have still gotten heavy minutes in a rotation since he can come in at either guard spot. If we want to really go for it, that would be a very strong team. I do hope though that Woody can get the bad shot selection out of Carlyle. Let’s get back to smart Indiana basketball. Woody is part of that. We should have enough depth to deal with that. It makes the players better for their own good.
  8. I would be surprised if that’s it. Rabjohns is saying that other schools recruiting him are using negative recruiting to show him IU’s numbers with guard shooting. The actual data is what we have to overcome.
  9. Good point about the freshman wall. It is a real thing. Let’s be honest, playing heavy minutes as a freshman is a tough adjustment and you can anticipate a big jump with experience. How much easier is almost anything after you’ve been through it.
  10. I followed him pretty closely last year since I saw him as a portal target. In a nutshell he had a bad back his sophomore year that really hurt him. Also, Gard was VERY down in his defense. Openly. I would not have been in favor of him as a starter as some sort of panacea. But, as an 8th or 9th who can come in and shoot, he’d be an asset I think. I like the size. If his back gets healthy I think he can be solid in a role situation.
  11. Nice. Off the bench with his length as a sniper, absolutely. Fills a role.
  12. RIP Whitey. Very innovative manager. I am not a Cards fan, but he was great. Didn't he swap Todd Worrell (righty) and Ken Dayley (southpaw) in right field and on the mound at one point? I have a recollection of him thinking outside the box like that.
  13. Might be as simple as getting a starting or more prominent role at Cincinnati.
  14. We need roster spots. All signs pointing to us adding to DL. I’d say multiple guys. We’ve probably got money lined up for the best mid major guys with production.
  15. Could easily see him to 36-37% with progression. More importantly he’s dynamic and creative.
  16. In one of his pressers, he named four new backs as doing well and then referred to being impressed by the “new guys.” Also said he was pleased with the group. Impressive statement because he’s demanding and prickly in a great way. Also said McCulley needs to pick it up.
  17. Wow RIP. Just saw him giving condolences on Isenbarger a few weeks ago.
  18. Malone can stretch the floor at his size. Not super athletic but big with good shooting form.
  19. @Andrew and @DC2345 is Blazi out of the mix? Did we offer? If you Google him and see his social media he sure doesn’t seem locked in. I could see him scaring coaches off. We have no idea how he is in a meeting. If he gave me a flighty vibe, I’d pass. But if he seems serious, the athleticism could be interesting with maybe a redshirt.
  20. If I’m Conwell, I’m thinking I am starting at IU. Woody would love him. Tough kid and will go get some boards too. Competitor. Recruit like Knight. Get the right talent and have them compete. He had Edwards, Jones and Meeks and still brought in Reynolds, Greg G., Pat G and Leary one year and then Bailey. Cignetti is doing it. We have like 7 fairly proven running backs and more receivers. Battle it out and let’s go.
