  1. I don’t think it’s poor recruiting but more poor roster construction…and more importantly at the positions that have the biggest impact on the floor (PG ) but guards in general and having shooters that can space the floor or a dynamic athlete that can break down the defense and get to the rim. When we have had guards like that..we’ve been successful…we just haven’t had many of late.
  2. I’d be shocked if he is a first rd pick.
  3. Clingan can shoot out to the 3pt line…he also is able to move his feet and block shots. Edey can’t play drop coverage in NBa. He has no future and I’m not saying that because he is a Purdue player…would be the same if he played at IU. He will be playing international ball or be a clone of this guy…minus the personality and girl obviously.
  4. NC St maybe didn’t win the battle but they won the war. You can’t tell me that physical defense they played on Purdue didn’t have an effect when UConn ratcheted it up even more late in the first half. Purdue had no legs second half. They were gassed and especially Edey. Too much physical ball had its effect and then add UConn just running their shooters to death through their motion offense…that was a tough back to back to have to play.
  5. I’ve told people this 100 times but no one wants to listen. He will make more money at Purdue than NBA. His basketball career will likely be almost over once he leaves so why not stay.
  6. Oh no doubt. Loyer, Gillis, snd Jones could get nothing from the outside. Forced them to drive where UConns length was able to limit looks and passes. Smith played a good game for the most part and got some open attempts at the basket because they woukdnt leave Edey. That said he looked exhausted along Edey…all the minutes and the physicality and size wore on him. He will continue to get better and better but last night was the perfect storm to defend Purdue. Long athletic, switchable guys 1-4 and a big that mostly could handle Edey 1-1 and hold his own. It was a bad matchup for them…heck UConn was a bad matchup for just about anyone.
  7. We would be sad…but we would switch seasons with you in a minute. It’s hard to win a Natty. You usually need to build a culture of success getting there a few times…or have a generational player. I know it sucks watching IU soccer come runner up so much lately but if you keep getting there you will eventually come out on top. That said I don’t think you will find safe quarters on an IU board tonight or for awhile. Its literally all most have oh here is the past because our present sucks.
  8. True…but I think Trey can move well enough to cover him. We shall see. No doubt Painter could go to GillIs instead. I think UConn guards can cover Purdue but if they have to start helping on Edey…well Purdue has shown they shoot much better than last year. They are a complete team…both of them really…so this could go either way. Should be a classic. All 64 teams in the tournament I think these are the two best equipped to beat each other.
  9. TKR and Jones will continue to be key players for Purdue. They are guys that will have opportunities tonight and it will come down to how they perform. UConn really doesn’t have a good matchup for TKR so I could see him doing some work against Karaban and it seems that Jones has been the guy left alone to shoot and he will get looks tonight. Those are my keys…of course outside whatever happens with the two bigs.
  10. Issue with Ballo is then you have to players in your starting 5 that can not switch off and help on the perimeter. He and Reneau have no lateral ability…imo a super athletic rim runner/rim protector that can step out and hit jumpers and move a bit on the perimeter is the best case scenario to pair with Reneau. It’s just so tough to play a guy like Reneau at the 4…a traditional low post big who can’t rebound and can’t defend….thats just a tough player to build a team around.
  11. Both teams went to analytics and overhauled how they play and how they practice. Painter brought in coaches from Baylor to help their 3pt shooting with new drills. Adapt or become extinct. Like the T-Woody.
  12. We will see if they let them play tonight with the bigs inside. Hopefully we get a good game.
  13. More importantly they just went over my win total for them this year. a nice little payout for what I put down before the season. They made me wonder with some horrible losses this year. With the Knicks hurt that would be the ideal matchup in rd 1 if they can get up to the 3 seed and they fall back…great matchup with Haliburton vs Brunson. Very tight race so be interesting to see how it plays out. Just stay out of the Celtics side of the bracket.
  14. I’m not sure we should be celebrating too soon. UK with a good coach will be dangerous. Cal and his charity program to get poor kids into the nba was the best thing for us.
  15. Not when he got the contact they didn’t want to be rid of him. Why sign him at all if that was the case. It was one sided contract….thats malpractice.
  16. That was a truly awful contract that he drew up for Cal then. Should be fired for that alone.
  17. Because it’s protection from someone stealing him and gives you compensation to go after his replacement.
  18. Wow…what was Barnhart thinking…like 10 million a year and huge buyout to be rid of him but no protections for UK? Wow
  19. I’m sure there is language that says if he leaves for another job that he has to pay UK. If not then that’s a horrible contract. It’s pretty standard the buyout goes both ways.
  20. No…Arkansas has to pay to buy out Cal from Kentucky. Meaning UK is flush with cash to go after who they want.
  21. I’d watch for Billy Donavon to UK. They won’t mess around.
  22. That’s nothing if Arkansas just bought Cal out. That’s only 2 years of Johns salary.
  23. No…we will do it like the Bears and trade it to a horrible team like Arizona or the Giants and get the #1 pick the following year…plus a wr…Marvin Harrison Jr….and who do we draft….Arch Manning! See…all fixed..even Ballard can’t mess that up!
  24. Not that I’m aware. He likes being part of something bigger. I’d be shocked if he leaves. He will likely get more playing time next year. The culture built up there is something special. People can make fun of them all they want but it’s only out of jealousy.
  25. They already have their QB…and if he isn’t the right guy…they will do that without even trying…like the Bears.
