I agree. I’ve followed recruiting in basketball and football for 30 years. NO good recruiter misses key games. And if they do they’re at another key game and a key asst is at that one. Recruiting is your life blood. If he decided to “take a day off” for a HS game like that it’s worse than anything I’ve seen on the sidelines or with X’s and O’s with this team.

You don’t know for sure if you’re told. Maybe they change their minds. Maybe they’re lying. Maybe they’re a clone. You get my point.

Correct. But we’re likely not hiring a former IU coach to coach IU nor will we land another big time coach who’s already currently successful at their school. So at some point we have to make an assessment as to how their potential translates. Notice I use the word “we” because quite frankly this board among others play a critical role it helping this transition for OUR program. 💪🏻😎

The problem with basing too much on a single tourney run is just that…a single run here teams get hot. That is my one big worry I need calmed.

We screwed Wisconsin for RMK, let’s not let someone screw us for a great coach. NOT saying May is RMK. Not even saying he’s a sure fire slam dunk. But dang it all I really don’t want to miss out on someone cuz we came late to the party. If May turns out to be the real deal his destiny needs to be at IU lol

IF a slam dunk like Pearl is agreed upon and in the bag would they let go of Woodson immediately after season and do an interim so that all the players know with certainty that a change is coming?

I agree but at the same time we could hire a Pearl and miss out on him. OR we hire Pearl give him more time to prove himself and hope he’s still available when Pearl retires. I mean dang that would be ideal 😅

For my own sake I’d love to hear what you’ve heard that makes May different. I’m fine with May but Miller is in the back of my mind because there were good reasons to believe he’d pan out. I was on the Archie train but NEVER was the Crean. I was shouting from the roof tops what Crean wouod ultimately become and he did just that.

I agree. The safest bet is Pearl the better longterm upside is May. Agree 100%.

And an IU has more options IMO, because it has A LOT more going for it longterm if the right coach comes. I really tend to think most IU fans don’t GET what IU has to offer a coach. Our fanbase loyalty, the recruiting base, the prestige, the facilities to an extent (still can improve), the money, etc…there is nothing about IU that would limit a coach who has the ability to win a national title. That’s what Miller knew and said. Crean knew and said. If Crean could recruit as he did here, so many other coaches can recruit at that level and HIGHER. And there’s more than enough talent in our region, if plucked, to maintain a consistent top 10 program just like UNC, Kansas, etc. heck I’d argue we have better regional recruiting than some of the perennial contenders.

This guy needs his own PR guy who sits next to him all the time and he can’t speak until given the words to say. He can’t NOT make things worse when he speaks

He’s gonna milk this win all the way to the next game and after that one if we lose. If we go .500 at the end he’ll say “well if you combine how we started and finished the season we showed we were a good team.”

Pearl isn’t a longterm answer but he’s probably the single safest bet for us to get ourselves consistently back to a very GOOD program year in and year out.

There should be a clause in contracts that simply state “yea BUT if you suck like REALLY bad, and you’re embarrassing yourself and us, u mean you gotta go and we ain’t gonna pay you the buy out dude.” lol

I think you’re right but I think anyone would agree what would need to happen and what would be stacked against that happening…it would be greatly irrational to assume it had any chance OF happening. So it would be much more likely we’d throw another year away AND be in even worse of a situation we’ll be in now.

It’s looking based on rumors flying elsewhere that Pearl might be the guy behind the scenes with a handshake agreement. Do you think there’s any traction to this and do you think he’s right the ship and stick long enough to get us semi back for 6-8 years?
