This is going to sound kind of jaded, but it's the reality of the times....do you need anything else besides money and playing time to attract a good player?

It appears that way, since we can offer both and we still have 0 commits at this point.  But I understand your point, things will apparently plan to buy a team soon.

    Depaul hires Holtman

Actually hope he’s able to turn that program around. Grew up watching Chicago TV and Coach Ray Meyer was one of my favorites.

Me too.  Not sure why, but have always kind of paid attention to DePaul and hoped it could get going again.  Surprised a Chicago pipeline of some sort can’t result in a decent team.  The good ole days with Dallas Comegys and Tyrone Corbin.

  3. I do apologize if this has been floated, but the last 24 hours has been hard to keep up with.

As far as I know, Woodson has not been extended.  So his contract has 3 more yrs.  Clearly not ideal for recruiting HS players.  If I were AD, I would release as much NIL as possible to help Woody go out on a high note and pony up to get the coach in waiting on board now, like May.

could we pay May enough to come as associate head coach and wait a year or 2 and also have Woody be accepting of that?

just trying to build some hope here

Wednesday they “were saving their visits for the portal” and now he’s visiting. It’s reactionary.

We are saving visits but now we visit, I have learned no indiana commits for Woodson in 3 yrs, dominated by NW, PSU and Nebraska, the “hump” is way too big of an issue, hearing a 4th year is ok with forced asst coach changes or a GM to “help”? (Where does this happen)  Goodness, if our admin can’t see this writing on the wall…..but maybe I am just a frustrated fan.

If I’m a big I want to play in an offense with a ton of talented shooters….that spaces the floor and eliminates double teams and opens up the post for me to work….same goes for shooters…as a big draws attention and double teams and the easiest 3 in basketball is the kickout three imo.  Its simple complimentary basketball.

This is so true, and exactly why I was so disappointed in the Syracuse loss.  I felt that team had enough of everything to go far, maybe win it all.

unfortunately we were confused on the first offensive possession.  Sorry for the trigger of opportunity lost.

  6. It isn’t time to fire Woodson yet.  This year has been unbearable so far, but it isn’t over.  Clearly there are things that need to get better.  When hired, I remember him commenting about his unique use of the “3 ball” and commenters were talking about his 4 out style of play.  Maybe I have missed it, but haven’t seen either yet.  Also, I think most of us fans would be good with the current record if we could do the basics, like rebound, defend, and minimize turnovers.  And maybe have a decent offensive approach.  Coach needs to step up on these things that have nothing to do with shooting ability and fans will notice it.

it may be too late for the tournament, but hopefully he addresses these basic things soon for the sake of his job and the program.

  7. A high school buddy of mine and fellow IU grad ended up in chapel hill for his career.  His young son battled cancer for several years before passing about 10 yrs or so ago.  During his fight, Montross volunteered and even MC’d at community events sponsored by the organization they developed to fight cancer in that area, well before Eric himself was diagnosed.  Apparently he was a great guy, Rest in peace big fella.

  8. With X healthy we can be good if we figure out 2 things….confidence and playing both sides with aggression.  This team has athleticism, they are all good, but for some reason there isn’t that confidence and killer instinct.  Not sure how that develops, but the talent is there.  Just my opinion.

He was a big part of many of our lives for a very long time.  As important of a figure as a non-relative or close friend can be.   We all knew it was close but it’s a significantly sad day anyway.   Time marches on.

I am so glad he came back.  I think we all knew he came HOME for the end.  RIP, Coach, you greatly impacted many.  Very sad day as it hits you.

Your last paragraph really hit home for me.  Maybe it’s just me, but his dying is a little easier to bear knowing that he came back, hung out at assembly hall, reconnected with IU, etc.  like a silver lining so to speak.  At least that happened before he passed.

I really like Moren but not having Holmes brick the second FT then not doubling the the only player on the court who can beat you on the out of bounds play is pee wee league level obvious.

A rebound would have been a quick to anyway.  I get the double team tho.

He does have the physicality…I’m not saying he won’t be a good fit…just saying I don’t see the athleticism in the traditional sense. I don’t see an ability to get past his man or really finish at the rim over people. Kid has some wiggle and some strong snap in his cross over, jab step, and step back etc to get his shot off…and he seems to hit highly contested shots and finish through contact…so there is pluses…but athleticism…very much reminds me of a Miller Kopp.

It caught my attention that he seems to have a quick release to be comfortable shooting under pressure from perimeter.  He is a bit more athletic than Kopp, athletic enough to get to his mid range shot, which seems to be a strength.  Love a wing player that is good at posting up, and his makes rarely hit the rim.  After the past 10+ years of shooting woes, I would be glad to see him as a Hoosier!

  12. The only potential questions in my opinion are the 3 and 4.  Kopp is the best shooter on the team. His presence on the floor helps everyone else on offense due to spacing.  He will start.  Race will and should start but Geronimo will get 25+ minutes between the 3 and 4 in my opinion.

    JHS

deep team, still short on shooting,  but very much looking forward to a great season.
