  1. Replying to my own post, as I think I got it wrong. As I understand it now, the microfracture surgery was several months ago. The recent procedure was minor, not a setback at all. Jakai said he wants to be playing by December. If true, this is great news. It just goes to show that maybe - possibly - the Indiana University medical staff with their thousands of hours experience know more about this than me after 5 minutes on Google.
  2. From everything I've read, this is not good news. He's been injured for at least 15 months (Spring 2022). Now add perhaps another year to that. I found this regarding microfracture surgery: "Recovery time can be slow. Many people can go back to sports or other intense activities in about 9 to 12 months. Athletes in very intense sports may not be able to return to their former level." This type of surgery used to be done in the NBA, but has since fallen out of favor. According to an article in the Chicago Tribune, the failure rate is 66%. It is not clear what defines failure. I believe this 2018 article is readable, and not behind a paywall: https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/bulls/ct-spt-nba-microfracture-surgery-amare-stoudemire-20180706-story.html
  3. Gabe Cupps' work ethic impressing teammates and coaches: "No matter what, if there's something at 6 a.m. that he has to be at, he is working out before to start his day. If he has to catch a flight at 4:30 in the morning, he will work out before the flight at 4:30. And he's done that for 10 years straight, and that's why he is where he is." https://247sports.com/college/indiana/article/a-special-young-kid-indiana-basketball-iu-hoosiers-freshman-gabe-cupps-respect-actions-214403051/
  4. One rarely sees the words "defense" and "James Harden" in the same sentence.
  5. "Mullins to visit September 19th. He will also be attending Hoosier Hysteria in October." As a sophomore, he shot 47% from three. More details and video on the 6'5" guard here: https://hoosierillustrated.com/2025-in-state-guard-braylon-mullins-sets-indiana-basketball-unofficial-visit/
  6. Indiana projected 7th in the BigTen this coming season, by InsideTheHall. All 14 conference teams: https://www.insidethehall.com/2023/08/15/big-ten-power-rankings-offseason-edition-5/
  7. Nicholas (The Troll) is my favorite character in that series. And his 2 awesome dogs.
  8. Hi DG! I totally agree. It's speculation. We've all seen IU leans evaporate, and other players sign with us out of the blue. It's still better than Purdue guys coming over here to argue about Purdue.
  9. ANOTHER very good article by the same SI writer about McNeeley. It says Liam talks to JHS and Malik about their Indiana experiences. He wants an NBA system. He would enjoy being on the same team as Derik Queen in college. They're not a package deal, just best friends. Is he an IU lean? Will both he and Derik commit to IU? That remains to be seen, but there are some encouraging quotes here. https://www.si.com/college/indiana/basketball/catching-up-with-5-star-prospect-liam-mcneeley-indiana-basketball-recruiting
  10. Per Mike at TheDailyHoosier: 2025 guard Braylon has 2 IU visits coming this year, including Hoosier Hysteria. In one game this year, he scored a career-high 31 points on 12-for-14 shooting and 7-for-9 from 3-point range. Edit: corrected pic, below - sorry about that.
  11. Haha, to be fair, Purdue fans had a lot of time on their hands after losing to Fairleigh Dickinson in the first game.
  12. Kel’el Ware, Mackenzie Mgbako possible first round picks in 2024 NBA draft. This would be awesome. It would help the 2 players, and our recruiting would skyrocket. https://www.insidethehall.com/2023/08/10/indianas-kelel-ware-mackenzie-mgbako-mentioned-as-possible-first-round-picks-in-updated-2024-nba-draft-projections/
  13. Unbiased scouting report on Boogie. This one person says he's a very good player, but has a long way to go. My 2 cents: maybe he's not a one-and-done. I like reports like this that don't hype. https://247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/longformarticle/summer-scouting-series-dylan-harper-ahmad-nowell-jace-richardson-boogie-fland-tahaad-pettiford-213972346/#2211264
  14. Haha, this is a great post. Your CB pick is better than the official guys who do it 10 minutes before the announcement.
  15. Derik playing on the same team as Dylan Harper this weekend. https://www.insidethehall.com/2023/08/09/indiana-recruiting-target-derik-queen-to-play-in-ua-next-elite-24-this-weekend-on-espnu/
  16. He makes it look like an 8-foot rim in that clip. That's not a deceptive camera angle. That's all him. Wow!
  17. Lots of good analysis about McNeeley, especially shooting. He's essentially a 40% 3-point shooter with high volume. Pretty great for 6'8". I really hope when he and Derik Queen finish their upcoming visits to Indiana, they look at each other and say "Yeah, this is the place for us." https://www.si.com/college/indiana/basketball/film-study-liam-mcneeley-incredibly-skilled-basketball-player-indiana-recruiting
  18. Calbert Cheaney to CJ Gunn recently: "I told CJ, I said, 'Look, you've got an opportunity to be pretty good. You remind me of Greg Graham.'" Graham scored almost 1,600 points at Indiana and played six years in the NBA. Was it just motivation by Calbert, or did he mean it? I think we'll see this season.
  19. You make good points. At the same time, courts don't care if it's sustainable. The rules changed because the NCAA would have lost all lawsuits concerning NIL. All sides knew that. Being sustainable is a free market equation that will sort itself out. That's just my 2 cents.
  20. Indiana’s Kel’el Ware participating in Nike Skills Academy this week in Portland, Oregon https://www.insidethehall.com/2023/08/08/indianas-kelel-ware-participating-in-nike-skills-academy-this-week-in-portland-oregon/
  21. Terrific passing and footwork here. He's one of the most patient players I've ever seen.
  22. This is a brutal take-down (edited a bit): "These college leaders run to Congress demanding action about how the biggest threats to college sports are the transfer portal and NIL . . . then they go transfer portal an entire conference." "If the arguments for Congressional action had no merit before, now they look positively silly." My gosh, this guy carved them up like a Christmas roast.
  23. Wow. Jake Thompson tweeted this to ALL of his 23 followers. You da man, Jake!
