  1. In this hypothetical world, I don't think there's any way that Carlyle is going to start over Gallo. I think the appeal of Carlyle is his upside and that he has 3 years of eligibility left. @dgambill posted that clip of Rice lighting up Stanford two pages back. Watch who was defending him a majority of the time - Carlyle looked like a matador.
  2. What makes it great is that is sounds like both got caught with their pants down. The Trilly narrative on it was UK was looking for a way out of the relationship. Cal talked to Arkansas which was violated his contract and the AD essentially said leave or we’ll sue you. I think they were prepared to be bleed a little to get out from under that rock. So it sounds like UK got what it wanted, but wasn’t prepared because in their defense the timing was bad (the coaching dominos have almost all fallen this year). As somebody who strongly dislikes both Cal and UK, I’m just eating popcorn. That said, Pope can potentially be a good coach, but will he be able to build rosters?
  3. That also reminded me how Bill Walton talks about meaningless BS instead of the game he’s supposed to be analyzing.
  4. My gut says it's the year for Rickie.
  5. I am interested to see what happens. We have used the excuse that blue blood pressure cookers may not be as attractive as we once thought with all the big TV money rolling into the B1G and SEC. Monetarily, a good chunk of schools can hold on to their over achieving coaches with contract extensions and offer similar $$$ to proven coaching candidates. And now, without all that money flowing under the table to players, all of the sudden, things got much for competitive for UK. Can they pull in a big name or are they going to be denied by a string of candidates?
  6. This UCONN team is ridiculously good. Every game, everything is so easy for them. Amazing movement and they just wear opponents down….then knock them out.
  7. Edey just having a really bad half.
  8. In real time I thought it was a bad call and I think the broadcast only showed the replay once. BUT once I got a chance to see the ‘zoomed in’ replays, I agree, good call. The screener was moving the entire time. It was too blatant for the refs to swallow their whistles on….I don’t care how much time was left.
  9. I said it earlier in another thread, but I’d like to have success similar to the women’s program.
  10. Walking and chewing gum at the same time? Inconceivable!
  11. I’ve not seen either play, but based off the clips it seems like KC and Rice are very similar players who need to create their own shot. It’s surprising they want to play together (if true). I know they both have a lot of room to improve on their outside shot, but they both look very unbalanced - especially KC. Does ATL teach kids to fall backward on their jump shots? And forgive me for being jaded, but has this staff improved anybody’s shot to any significant degree? My amateur evaluation is premature (How about that for confidence? Lol). Both look like fine gets individually, but as a pair? I may need some convincing.
  12. I haven’t seen from anywhere that we’ve even been in contact with Storr. Anybody see otherwise?
  13. All said, I can’t imagine Bryson Tucker came here to sit. Mgbako definitely isn’t going to sit AND his natural position is the 4. So, are they the 3 and 4? And is that why the Louisville dude canceled his visit? I would hope the writing is on the wall, but Woody seemingly likes to shove square pegs into round holes. maybe, just maybe, ‘we’ are on the same page.
  14. As of this morning, I think only 1 or 2 of the top 25 transfers have signed.
  15. When some ask about what our expectations are for the men’s team, I’d say: THIS. -Mid 20 win seasons. -Make it to the 2nd weekend more times than we don’t make it. -Top 3 or 4 in the B1G -Best player gets injured? We still have enough depth to push through.
  16. In TJD’s last year there was a noticeable difference in how long he held the ball for in the post. He shot it, made his move or passed it much quicker (in comparison to previous years). He was quicker to recognize the doubles and got the ball out sometimes before they even came - which kept the opposing defense more off balance. I don’t know if Malik can do that, is told to do that or will learn to do it….but I hope he does. There is a difference between giving Malik a touch and playing inside/outside. He needs his touches, but he has to keep the ball moving or we become too easy to defend.
  17. It looked like that was painters strategy. He was heavily switching on the perimeter, and allowing drives. He didn’t want to give them any looks.
  18. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the success of (or lack of) teams with a lot of transfers. I don't think it's impossible to build a strong 'portal team', but I don't think Woody is the coach to do it because his offense and defense has proven to be too hard to grasp for new players.
  19. Eek. Single digit seed? That's it? I personally think we need to be a 5 seed or better because we'll most likely be in the same situation next year: 6 or 7 spots will need to be filled though the portal. So, because essentially nothing is being built from the ground up with HS recruits, then Woody needs to prove that he can be a top 25 caliber team with 50% of the roster made up of transfers year in and year out. Woody made his bed. He must lie in it. If this portal heavy strategy doesn't work, he has nobody to blame but himself because he's already set himself to be in the same situation in 25-26. And nobody has the patience to wait until 26-27, not even QB or the SImons.
  20. Maybe they learned their lesson about what happens when you put many eggs in few baskets.
  21. you talkin to me? 1. Jay Wright 2. Bill Self 3. Bob Knight's ghost
