Yeah I get that, but in the case of the Adams they've had kids get suspended for that connection already. Do you not remember HMP and Peter Jurkin?

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding, but being connected to Adams and AHOPE is not what got them suspended. It was more about other connections Adams had at the time as an IU booster and the selling of some bumper stickers. 😀

That could potentially affect their parents ability to claim them as dependents.  Which screws up their w4 claims.

    Idiotic on multiple levels.

I'm not familiar with tax law, so perhaps you can help me understand.

Why would this impact a parent's ability to claim the kid as a dependent?

I worked -- and was paid -- throughout high school in the state of Illinois and my parents had no issue claiming me as a dependent.

How is it that kids getting paid for their NIL while in high school would negatively impact dependent status, but working as a custodian, grocery bagger, farm-hand, etc. does not?

I would hope our staff is focusing on preparing our current players for the season.

Recruiting is year-round. Sure there's different times of year where there's more emphasis, but coaches are always messaging kids, lining up visits, talking with high school/AAU coaches, other influencers.

I'm afraid to say yes but yes. As long as he is a 23

Just out if curiosity, why do you think IU is the leader if he reclassifies? Why would Maryland, whom many also believe have positioned themselves well with Queen and who desperately needs a talent upgrade, not also be a front-runner for him if he reclassifies?

I would be very careful with the NIL money because some of these kids are taking advantage of the donors. On QB at LSU took the money then quit football and won't have to give the money back.  Also OSU gave Ewers all that money and never played a game at OSU

What money did OSU-backers give Ewers? The biggest deals that kid signed were with companies investing in Ewers, not propping up OSU football players . . . at least the deals I read about.

It is telling from visitors this week after busy AAU schedule.  The 3 visitors this week are the focal point right now.

TJ Powers and Booker are not likely anymore.

The two notions aren't mutually exclusive. TJ and Booker are still focal points and they are not likely. IU is still recruiting Booker and TJ heavily. IU would take both right now. Schedules don't always work out in IU's favor. Kids will take their own time.

At this point I am wondering if we take Carr if he were to commit. I think it comes down to Kaiser or Carr. Has anyone heard that Carr is the plan B?? Just putting some things together that I heard makes me wonder if Carr was told to wait and see. The next 3 weeks should be very telling.

I read where the coaches were still after TJ Power too. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out among the three.

Oh I think IU would take both, but with significant positional overlap it may be a hard sell to get them both in the same class. Although maybe with his perimeter skills, Booker may see himself as more of a combo forward. I would be ecstatic if we landed either, let alone both.

I haven't seen Queen play as much, but it seems that with both having ball handling skills and both able to shoot from deep that a team could put them anywhere from the 3 - 5 spots and they can co-exist. There's a lot of "position-less" basketball being played.

Assuming we get either Booker or Queen and couldn't take both due to position right? Public consensus...who should we go after harder?

Why would you assume IU couldn't take both? I'm not suggesting they will land either, but they aren't the same player.

i know almost no one will agree with this, BUT... i have always thought it was ridiculous to have a flopping rule.  seems awful hard to trust an official's judgment on whether a guy exaggerates a fall, etc. on the other hand, if a player does it well enough to fool an official, isn't that on the official and just a smart play by the player?  like i say, i know i am by myself on this one, but just how i feel about it.

There is something to be said for this. If a ref thinks a player flopped then let him lie there. Some rules ask too much of the refs.

Kopp to avg. 12 points a game while NOT being at Indiana. I dont want either guy we are looking at just to loose a guy already here. Slight upgrade or not. Not enough to matter, you gave guys schollys, ride them and make them better.

I won't disagree with your last sentence. Just concerning who is a better fit for IU, I think it's McNeil.

  12. I don’t think Sean makes IU a national title contender, but he's numbers suggest he is more than just a shorter Kopp. Just because he is a good three point shooter, and Miller was supposed to be doesn't mean they are rhe same.

While it's not the most prestigious honor, McNeil was Big12 Honorable Mention this year. I don't think Kopp would get the same distinction. McNeil averaged 12ppg. Kopp averaged 6ppg. Mcneil had a better shooting percentage while also taking more shots.

Again, he isn't the one missing piece, but he is an upgrade.

According to reports, the Monteverde coach also came with Malik and JHS on the visit. I hope Woody got some quality time with him to talk and try and further that relationship!

Would be nice to know if they got a chance to sit down together while Malik and JHS were checking out the campus with the Assistant coaches.

No major inside info, but there's no doubt the coaches had some time together. Mutually beneficial. The Monteverde coach wouldn't travel to B-Town without some 1:1 time with CMW.

Very rare....although happens occasionally that a 5 star comes in to a program to practice. I know there are examples recently at Carolina, happens at UK every year....but we aren't that yet.

Hope so for sure but he's coming to IU only if TJD isn't coming back. Just my feeling.

He may not want to be at IU at all. I have no information. Perhaps he justs wants a fun hang with JHS this weekend.

But don't mistake not starting for being a practice player. He could still earn significant game minutes as the back up to TJD, if we want to go big and play some high low action, or if we allow TJD some time to develop as a stretch four. Good coaches know how to put their best players on the floor.

True a lot of high ranked players start as freshman, but Reneau isn't top ten talent. He is around the 30 mark, which is where  Bates was, just for onr example. Without diving into the stats, I would imagine -- depending on the school they chose, like McGowens at Nebraska -- players ranked in that range have fewer starts than top ten ranked players.

Don’t think we land him but IMO really good sign that Texas didn’t make his final 5 since he also has a very talented Montverde teammate on there. Leads me to believe we aren’t on that list solely because of personal connections.

Well, I think his dad is tight with Hunter, so there's still a big personal connection. (Unless I'm misremembering and it's a different high profile recruit who's dad played ball with Hunter.)

That’s minimal stuff.  Ohio State produces.  It doesn’t matter if IU has some 21 year old writing up index cards with some names on it.  Deliver top talent or fix what you’re doing.  Nobody cares how the sausage is made.  Get players that matter.  9th place isn’t good enough.  Get some urgency and produce.

I don't understand what you're arguing about. I simply let the other poster know that IU is being proactive with the portal. Every major college program is calling and fielding calls from coaches and other intermediaries. They all are working with a sense of urgency. I never said they'll get the players they want. It's a lot about connections, selling your program, the fit of available players, etc. IU might not get anyone else that really impacts the roster, but don't be niave about the situation.

Alabama football has a consultant position where the sole job description is to identify players who might enter the portal and who would be good fits. I’ve long said Indiana basketball should have a guy like this.

IU does have staff watching the portal. More than that, staff is fielding and initiating back channels so they can stay abreast of the talent coming through.

The offense didnt work because we HAD NO SHOOTERS. Not because of Race and TJD. Think about all the kick outs to wide open shooters to have them only miss.

Race and Trayce together is a big part of the problem. We need a 4 that can shoot from deep and create off the dribble. Race can do neither. He is a smaller back to the basket player who clogs the lane because defenses know he is only a threat inside. That makes it harder for X, Bates or any other guard trying to create and score or create and dish. Defensively Race has issues guarding on the perimeter. It's time to give JG the four spot. Also, for those thinking it, JG isn't a skilled enough handler to be the 3. Maybe he makes remarkable progress this summer, but as of now he isn't a good enough shooter or dribble to play at the 3. He's decent enough now for the 4, and has more potential at the 4, which is why he played so many significant minutes over Race in the BTT and NCAA tournament.

    Rutgers:

    beat IU twice

lost to Lafayette (is there video of this…..wow)

    IU:  some good wins

    no bad losses

    injury issues

Michigan:  you had it locked up against IU and blew it…too bad if you get left out

I think any of these 3 could be in SS

but if someone is left out it should be Michigan

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding you, but do you think Rutgers beat IU twice?

Anyone have any news on Trey's injury progress? Wondering when he may return to play? Think his highbasketball IQ would have been a real help at Syracuse, and Wisconsin. Coaches son that plays unselfishly and knows how to win! Anyone else think so?

I believe CMW said Trey was on track to return by B1G play. He may even get a little action against UNC-Ashville.🤞

I’m not ready to anoint him the second coming or anything.  All I wanted to point out is, that it seems like the light is “starting” to come on.  He’s still going to make mistakes and X is still the best option. That’s all I was trying to say. Didn’t mean to start this kind of debate.

I don't have any fellow Hoosier fans around me, so when I have time I like to chime in to talk about the team.

I didn't think you were doing anything more than talking aloud to a group of buddies. 🍻
