Mark Emertt stepping down, now what for NCAA the

Recommended Posts

He deserves any and all criticism.   I have academicians in my family so I say this respectfully.  I think he was a university President.  The problem is these guys don’t function in the real world.  It’s the definition of an ivory tower.  So they have no clue how to run an enterprise like the NCAA.  And I don’t know who is on the board, but it’s probably much of the same.  When you don’t function in the real world, you’re ill-equipped to anticipate issues or properly administer consistent policies and so on.  They can’t anticipate a business guy like Ruiz using the system for promotion.  Having said that, they will probably bring in another university President.  Maybe the new person will have a better idea of what he or she is doing.  They need to basically nuke how they do things, restructure, start from scratch etc.  I think IU took a bigger penalty for bumper stickers than UNC did for systematic academic fraud for decades.  You can’t make this stuff up.

Here's a nice good-bye piece by Sports Illustrated.

Highlights:

"If there is a less respected current CEO of any organization, I don’t know who it is."

"(He is) a high-priced meat shield for the NCAA’s army of critics."

"Goodbye to Mark Emmert. Good riddance."

"Mark Emmert, Human Meat Shield" would make a great business card.

Hey, don't forget the 'high-priced' part. He won't shield anything for under 3 million dollars a year.

Or that should be a buyer beware.

No different than Goodell for the NFL owners.  The Commissioner takes all the incoming hate so everyone else can quietly profit in the background.  They're paid well for their troubles.  Rinse, repeat.
