I may be in the minority here, but I really just am not all that concerned about where this kid goes to school. Would I love to have him at IU? Of course! Will this make or break Archie's ability to draw top-flight talent from in-state going forward? Of course not. Like everyone else following this recruitment, I get sucked into the drama of it. But in the end, he's just a kid playing a game that he loves and is really good at. I loved watching Damon too. But he never brought us another banner, and his college career ended up being kinda meh. Still love the legend and his career though. As a fellow native Hoosier and IU alum, I'd like Romeo to come to Bloomington. If he decides that's not in his best interest, I hope the kid flourishes wherever his career takes him. I'm still loving this team next year...and the year after, and so on, with or without RL.

Did you watch Damon play in high school? He was far from playing tge point for BNL. Coack knight asked him to be the point guard on the number 1 team in the country. To say his career here was meh is a huge insult.  Like many have said and no excuse but we were an Alan Henderson injury  and a TV Ted away from 2 titles.  Woukd that have been meh??

This sort of apathy is the reason IU basketball has become Nebraska football.

Some guy on the rivals site said he know someone on the NA staff and was told Romeo to Vandy is a done deal.  He said the only reason he has not committed is because of the backlash from fans and he loves signing all the autographs so he is waiting to announce after the season.  Most people over their pretty much ripped him for just being a troll who has no clue what is happening.

I don't buy it but I really hope that if Romeo does choose Vandy (or KU) that there isn't (much) backlash from fans. Don't want us looking like fUK idiot fanbase.

Like I said earlier about the Darius Garland situation, I feel IU was played up to the end.

Deep down I have thought this as well, hope I'm wrong.

Speaking of NA staff..

I have a buddy (same UL fan that still thinks they have a shot at RL) who has a relative on staff at NAHS, she says she saw Ol Roy there a few times last year (not surprising) and in the gym once THIS year. I said she probably confused him with the janitor, she swears it was him. This was just 'he said/she said' stuff to me.

But, it did make me wonder, do you think other schools are still recruiting RL? I suppose until he is signed they see him as available?

If WE were not on his list of three would you expect our staff to still work him? I think i would just because of logistics.

I remember a few weeks ago or a month ago I cannot remember off the top of my head, kinda the same thing popping up as a rumor that Romeo had already decided and that it wasn't IU but that was shot down real quick.  I think people just trying to stir the pot since this is a very big recruitment,  not only for IU but for Vandy and Kansas as well since we are dealing with a top 5 kid in this class.

My uncle was gambling down at the casino in New Albany(Horseshoe) about a month ago and said he was playing cards and a family member of Romeo's(Aunt) was at the same table.  They chit chatted and conversed while playing and he asked the obvious question about "Where is Romeo going for college" and her response was "Romeo is coming home to Indiana".  Not sure what this means nor am I saying I even believe this as my uncle is a huge IU fan and a graduate from IU so he could be trying to pull my leg.

Hard to argue with the backlash theory because it's partially true....if in fact that happens. If we get played by Garland and Romeo the same way Wilkes did it's time to go back to the 80's and 90's way of recruiting in this state. If a kid doesn't go to IU. Families lose jobs. Kids get bad grades. Neighbors are told to leave.....any and everything to make those around players feel as uncomfortable as possible. Haha...

One question. Does this poster have a history? Or just another guy coming along.

I don't remember any of the other top Indiana players getting backlash from fans when they chose other schools.

in the Garland situation i'm not sure who to blame, him, the talking heads, even US as we heard, read, repeated every tidbid of info. It's what we do

If Romeo was a Vandy lock I think he would've already signed and locked up long ago. With the way the world is everyone would've move on the the next thing and his choice would be yesterdays news. Big time recruits do this all the time (don't stay local). Actually, without the FBI, he'd be locked into Louisville right now i believe.

Also, to be 'playing' the Indiana fanbase like this, would be really a cold, calculated, manipulative move that anyone would have to see as a really, really dumb idea. Like a really low level of class. THAT would be deserving of that backlash mentioned. He doesn't at all seem like that kind of kid, and frankly if he is we don't want him anyway.

Everything I've seen of him points to him being a good kid with great talent that we would love to have on our team. I sure hope so, but do agree with others that we will be very disappointed but OK without him.

According to somebody on another site, the FBI is apparently saying there are 3 dozen teams affected by the findings of their investigation and that they aren't mid majors. , "It's not the mid majors paying to get to the top, it's the ones already there."

Kansas, and Vandy could both be in trouble don't ya think??

If he doesn’t pick Indiana it will sting a little, but you can’t fault a kid for making a decision. Can you question the motive? Sure. But I’d be extremely disappointed if he and his family were scolded for making a choice that HE felt was the right move. They’re a very nice family and while I don’t know them personally, I have met them and they’re very good people. I think we’re in really good shape moving forward. As long as we continue to recruit our state vigorously, there’s a very good chance that we’ll start landing the elite Indiana talent more consistently. I really can’t remember the last time that I felt this comfortable with our coach and the program's future. But we’re in good hands for the long haul.

As they should...sounds ridiculously trollish to me.

If he ends up choosing Vandy, I’ve gotta think that he played IU fans this year.  I don’t think it’s really a matter of “backlash,” as it’s not like fans would be showing up to boo him if he committed somewhere else. But there would be far, far less hype around him going for the scoring record if he was already committed somewhere else.  There wouldn’t be lines out of the door for his autograph if he was headed out of state.

I'm thinking more back to when Kenny Johnson was on staff.

Ahh...He or Chuck Martin wouldn’t surprise  me now that you mention it. Personally with crean I would be shocked

Back to Romeo a comparison I had. He always says his favorite player is Lebron James.  Vandy would be similar to James going to Miami and forming a big 3

IU is similar to Cleveland and trying to win a title with the hometown team

Food for thought

Except the hometown team would still have more talent than “Miami”.
