BEKA
Oops. Sorry about that last post. Not used to the embedding feature here. Anyway, it was linking to this Twitter vid from last night's regional final after the game was over. 5fouls
Let's look at some Indiana basketball legends. Oscar: Dominated at all three levels. But, he did so at a time without social media, and, honestly, limited media exposure of any kind. Larry: A very good high school basketball player, but not a legend until the end of his college career. Today's media opportunities may have helped that legend status build a little more quickly, but the fact is it was not available. Damon: The book created a legend before he ever played a high school game. Social media as we know it today may not have existed, but the book and his carrying his high school team to a state title more than make up for that. A solid college career on some very good teams were enough for 'legend' status to survive despite the fact that he never played professionally. Romeo: The opportunity is there. He has already had a Damon-like impact in high school, with the opportunity to have a Larry-type impact in college should he choose IU. If he can, as expected, continue his personal success at the professional level, he can be an Indiana legend at all three levels on par with Oscar, at a time when there are more media opportunities to carry that 'legend' status to even greater heights. The key to achieving that? He has to go to IU. It just does not work if he goes anywhere else.
Proud2BAHoosier
If Romeo does not choose IU, it certainly won't be for lack of trying by the coaches, players, and the fan base. Like 5 says he won't get that kind of attention from either Vandy or Kansas......

I really think that the thing that has hurt some of our coaches going back to Knight's last few years, has been the inability to really lock down a good percentage of the best kids coming out of this state. If we are able to just get 60% of the top kids, I think that will put us back into that elite discussion.

Only thing I would add (and I'm certain it's being discussed privately with Romeo) is look at Victor. Because of what he did at IU, came out of nowhere, put the work in like no other, made himself a lottery pick and now has energized a fan base and a city again in less than 7 months. That doesn't happen if Victor isn't from IU. Sure we loved Reggie and embraced him over time (took years for some) but the IU/Vic connection has made him a legend. Romeo can be the same guy.
