Still  ticks me off that he and not Griffey was the first unanimous selection in the Hall.

Best closer in the history of baseball vs. an incredible, but not the best player of all time, at his position.  I am a Reds and Yankee fan, so I love them both.  MR definitely deserves unanimous selection before KGJ.  But man, I loved both Sr and Jr.  I remember when Jr was traded from Seattle to Cincinnati and the city closed down streets with a police escort to welcome him to the city.

This could be an entire thread unto itself, but who would you put as the best CF of all time?

We can agree to disagree on this 1. The only reason Griffey was not unanimous was the voter knew JR was in and wanted to give first place vote to one of the guys on the ballot for several years in hope of helping another player get in. When interviewed he said he never thought his vote would be the only one and we would have chosen differently if he would have known.

IMO Jr should have been the first and Mariano the 2nd.

Go Yanks

Even a guy wearing his pin stripe colored glasses can agree Jr. Should have been unanimous and Mariano as well. We were blessed to see 2 of the all time greats. Mariano is my oldest sons 2nd fave player behind Jeter and Aydens is Judge so we watch a lot of Yankee games in our house

Soon to be Mike Trout.

I will wait to pass judgement still too early. I think we forget just how dominant JR was.

JR 1st 9 years  RBI: 725  HR 398  AVG: .300  Gold Glove 8

Trout 1st 9 Years RBI: 660   HR 245  AVG .308  Gold Glove 0

Hold off on the anointment for now. 1994 strike shortened stats 40 HR 90 RBI  .323 BA  in 2/3 of a season

Has Mays #1, Jr at #5, and Trout at #6 already

Not so sure i agree with their assessment. Mays I can live with above JR. Mantel 3 in my book but no way anyone else. I know injury is a major part of it but without injury JR would own the HR record and many others. Gold Gloves when you factor all those things into it and just the flair for the game JR and Willie set themselves far and away above the competition.

Maybe a little early, but I think he’s on pace to be. Has the highest career WAR at his age in history I BELIEVE. But guys aren’t playing as long as they used to, so he may not get to Mays’ stature. We shall see. He was the MVP in ‘13, 2nd in ‘14, MVP in ‘15, and 2nd in ‘16. He missed 8 weeks in ‘17, but I’m pretty certain he was 2nd or 3rd last year as well. Pretty impressive. Exact definition of five tool player.

Ain’t going to lie...every baseball player my ages hero...we all wore our hat backwards when we saw him do that and we all batted left handed playing wiffle ball to re-enact his swing. Not to mention always the #1 pick in our fantasy baseball league...and there were some great players in his era but it still wasn’t close on who was the best (without the roids).

I love this thread title.  Good stuff. I think its great that we can still talk about things on here after a guy commits, decommits and then recommits even if its baseball that we are discussing. This would be a boring place if we stayed on topic. Would not be much to discuss

:)
