I was fortunate enough to teach this young man this past school year. As his grandmother mentioned,  he was a loving kid that was always smiling and goofy (in a good way). I cannot begin to tell you how much it hurts knowing what he had to go through his last few hours on earth. There are very few people in this world that I hate, but his dad is one of them.

Terrible.  Just terrible.  I feel badly, and I don't know the individuals involved.  Can imagine how you feel.

I am speechless.  A very sad, sad story.

Society failed that child.  The father is quoted as saying "I am not going BACK to prison.".  I take that to mean that the father had been incarcerated before because of drugs.  There were still drugs in the house.  The boy was hungry.  Red flags all over the place with a little bit of monitoring by the courts.   Where is the oversight to ensure that children are not subjected to this type of thing at home?

Reminiscent of a story down here a few months ago where a mom high on meth tried to beat a moving train across the tracks.  She survived, but her two small children (ages 4 & 5,  I believe)  were killed.

My question would be why is this Dad that was in prison having an unsupervised visitation with his son?  Makes no sense to me.  May the Dad rot in hell.

For a sports junkie like me, I can't begin to tell you how many hours of my life I've spent reviewing the information that these two gentlemen put out,.  I hope they continue to do what they do for a long time.

More than likely because visitations and contact with family are supposed to be the #1 reason for less recidivism. Sad story all around.

Did not know where to put this so I will put it here. John Beilin had heart surgery but he should be ready for the season.

Best wishes to a great coach, for a complete and full recovery.  From Hoosier Sports Nation.  We need you on the court coach !

That is big. I've got mixed feelings on the eligibility and return proposal -- definitely good for players, and so I lean in support of it, so guys won't lose college eligibility for trying to get drafted -- but on the flip side, that's likely going to create a lot of uncertainty in recruiting.

I wonder what Cal thinks?
