I was told during the season 5hat if TW made it to campus he was ours. The reasoning was the game atmosphere, emotional connection etc...  not sure that a visit now has the same meaning but I like the chances much more now than 1 week ago. As most know the Watford family is not one to string us along and if we were not a serious contender he would not be making a visit. CAM pulled a little magic out of his hat apparently.  Now close the deal

He should already know what the game day experience is all about since he has been here for many many games.

I never understand when people say things like that. CW was the 3rd, maybe even 4th, best player on a very good team that was ultimately quite disappointing. I liked him then and like him now, as every IU can I know does, but he's not an all time great. TW is the 5 star, can't miss recruit. He's poised to be bigger than his brother's shadow. I don't see any reason he would be afraid of that shadow.

Christian Watford may not be a hall of fame player. But neither is Dwight Clark. Or David Tyree. Or Kirk Gibson. Doesn't mean they're not legends.

That's not what I am saying.  He knows that very well. There was fear that the experience would have helped him to make a decision based solely on emotions and not what was necessarily best for Trendon. We respected his decision and hindsight being what it is had we not done so and put the full court press on, I have been told he would have already committed to IU.

Now it is fully his hope to take a visit and from what i am gathering this visit will either say yes this is the place for me or I still love Indiana but for me it's not where I need to he. We would not be in position for a visit if not for the blunders of them other programs involved. We need to make the most of it.

There are reasons to support that the WAT SHOT might have been the biggest shot ever in Assembly Hall. I know there are arguments for several others.

I am in agreement with you in terms of Christian. The reason, I mentioned being afraid to fill Christian's shoes, is that over the months, I have heard it alluded to by Trendon's father.  Maybe that is the reason why Christian may attend  withTrendon on his next trip to IU.   Don't know.  It's just something I picked up a while back in some of the family interviews.

If true... I think it might have something to do with the last second shot to win at home against Kentucky.  There are a handful of shots in the history of IU BB that are legendary. And Christian's shot is right up there with most of them.

Apparently Mr. Evans isn’t aware of Trendon’s visit to Bloomington.  Otherwise writing that bit and not mentioning IU with a visit set up this late in the game is baffling.

Seems that unless we are the acknowledged favorite with a kid, that guy pretty much minimizes or disregards our involvement.

Christian Watford is ninth all time at IU in both scoring and rebounding.  That’s pretty eye popping.

From a historical perspective, he's in rarefied air at IU. Keep in mind, his first two years, Christian was asked to assume more of a role than he was probably ready for.  Thus his higher than expected productivity and stats.  That team was started from scratch.  With Cody and Victor, he was able to be more of a specialist.

Christian was also a super skinny 6'7" wing that was asked to play the post before his body had time to fill out.  We all remember the stud, stretch 4 junior and senior stretching the floor and being an outstanding trailor.

Trendon would arrive as a much different player due to his body and pre-college preparation. Given time and experience,  he could easily create his own legacy, while ADDING to the family one. Christian has, and would continue, to share his invaluable personal experience and knowledge. I can't stress enough how much different Trendon's preparation has been because the Watford's made the effort to get Trendon the best coaching and training available. Let us all hope we get to see the results in candystripes!

I'm to the point where if we need to offer Christian Watford a job (no clue where his playing days are right now) within our program I'm all good with that. He's a legacy, a former alumni and has ties to fertile recruiting grounds in the South. Why not? Director of Ops or some Alumni role. Better us instead of Georgia or Bama or LSU eventually.

One thing I did think of that might (BIG MIGHT) is we're the school that gets him away from all of the Bama, LSU, Memphis noise. He can get away from them and fans and just play hoops at IU.

Edit-No offense to Derek Elston but some job like that or in administration. We mismanage plenty of money each year cleaning up Fred's mistakes. Offer CW $150k to do internal admin, summer circuit alumni relations,etc.....all very legal.

What's a "former alumni"?  Did they take his degree away?  :coffee:

I like where we stand right now with Trendon. LSU is most likely out, even though he said they’re still in. Memphis and Bama have minutes available, but he wouldn’t be “the man” at either school. Duke hasn’t offered and have all but got Hurt to sign on the dotted line. Indiana offers pt, an opportunity to be the alpha male and compete at the highest level in  the national spotlight.

College basketball isn’t what it used to be, because of the fluidity in recruiting... we could be a legitimate threat with the right kids in the program. We’ll have some solid upperclassmen with experience returning as well. Not world beaters, but if they can gel and our young guys can excel on their learning curve, we could be pretty good.
