addictedtoIU
To me, the recruit and former player Grant Gelon had a symbolic meaning in Crean's downfall that eventually led to his termination. Towards the end of his tenure at IU, I'm sure he knew tons of IU fans and stakeholders criticized his lack of success in recruiting in-state players, and he must've been in lots of pressure for it. As he struck out on quality in-state players (or possibly he never even had a chance because he burnt so many bridges), all he could do was to sign Gelon and advertise him as a future 3-point specialist where in fact, Gelon had absolutely no business being in high major D1 let alone being at a blueblood school like IU. LOL I don't think I've ever seen more discussion over a guy who played 8 total minutes in his IU career. Funny With all due respect, equally. Here's a kid from Indiana. Northwest Indiana, no less. An area of the state where Indiana University has failed miserably to mine talent from. Talent like Brandon Dawson, and many others that have , for decades chosen other B1G schools over IU. He wasn't a kid out of Florida, that Crean once offered, that no one had heard of.... and never even donned the Candy Stripes. Grant donned the Candy Stripes. I could care less about a kid who never came to IU. But I do care for a kid, regardless of his talents, actually appeared in games for IU, even if his time on the court was limited. That's what we see. We don't see is what kids go through in practice. That... also is being part of the team. And despite all of that, and despite his talents.... here was a kid, who chose IU over other schools. It's a given that IU was the best offer Grant had on the table. As I said earlier, who wouldn't want to grab a piece of that ? Maybe it was Crean's attempt to break into the Northwest part of Indiana..... hoping that kids from that area of the state would show interest in IU, unlike never before. I don't know. And if Crean had not lost his job.... would Grant have been cut ? Who knows. What we do know is that Archie, stepped up to the plate and terminated Grant.... not unlike what Crean did with several miscreants when Crean first made it to IU. In the end. It may not matter to you. That's fine by me. But it does matter to me. An Indiana kid. From NWI. Who actually played for IU. Is a part of IU history, for better or worse. And again... I am wondering.... where is Grant ?

FW_Hoosier
Since the board still seems to be so interested in Gelon for some reason, here’s some insider info for you. My little brother was a freshman at Ball State when Gelon was a freshman at IU. When he came to visit me in Bloomington, the first thing he did was point at the schedule poster hanging on my wall and tell me that he had had a fling with Gelon’s girlfriend up in Muncie at the time. So what you are saying is Grant's girlfriend got a Gelo pudding pop from your brother?

Anyway, Bethel is 4-0 and Gelon is averaging 21.5 points and 6.3 rebounds. He's shooting 46.4% from the field and 41.5% from 3. He's 100% on free throws. (17-17) I can let it go now that the IU season is getting underway.

Knowing he never wanted to be anything but a Hoosier. Thank you for sharing those stats with us. Impressive stats to start a season out. And to think of all that Grant has gone through. I can't be happier for him and his mother, who has stood tall through all his travels.
