Comical Archie Miller Analysis

Here's another absolute idiot on that forum:

You don't think eight years from now Archie will be saying the same thing. Crean got an extremely lucky draw in one tourney and lucked into Dwayne wade and made it to a final four. Archie lucked into the draw he got in one NCAA tourney and made an elite eight. Neither one has done anything in the tournament since

To their credit, another Purdue  poster pointed out that Crean's Marquette team was a 3 seed and beat both  the 1 and the 2 to get to the final four.  He also pointed out that MIller's Dayton team beat several higher seeds to get to the E8.  Gave Michigan's run to the title last year as an example of an easy draw/busted bracket.
So, there are some pretty knowledgeable fans there, but they usually get accused of being an IU fan when they show some intelligence...think about that for a moment.

I just saw that.  Quickly turned into the typical sniping, complete with someone posting the definition of the word 'opinion'.

Yeah, I'm sorry...when you say something that is that patently (and provably) false, it's no longer opinion.  It's either hyperbole or just plain toiletmaker stupidity. :nansplit:

I think they are just jealous Purdue will never be able to draw a coach that is better than average to slightly above average and also are worried after watching Archie nail it on recruiting.

Ummmm, Fred Schaus and Lee Rose were pretty damn good hires for the Boilers.

Painter is not a bad coach.  He's a little light in recruiting ability but seems to somewhat make up for that by being able to identify some under-the-radar talent like Crean did.  I think you're right in this sense...they'd best keep him happy because I think they would very much struggle to be able to hire a better coach.

...and I'm glad their fans think Painter is so much better than "little Archie".  It will make kicking their corn-fed butts that much sweeter.

Noticed this trend recently...what on earth has caused to much hatred for Iowa?!!

P*SS ON IOWA!

Who the h*ll goes to Iowa? I mean, voluntarily? I can understand someone being captured and taken there against their will, but . . . IOWA? VOLUNTARILY?

They are our most hated rival.

What the hell... the immaturity of that post is just embarrassing. And why Iowa lol?

Why does that site have so much in common with all those toxic political forums and online safe spaces you hear and read about?

Agreed, this clarifies what i was thinking. Painter is a good coach. Purdue has had some good to very good coaches.  Keady might be one of the better coaches to not have much postseason success, and I will say he deserved some. They would be hard pressed to do better than Painter.  I just dont see them being on the short list for top up and comers.  The best they could hope for is a coach that outperforms expectations.

I think the Iowa hatred is a juvenile joke that has something to do with protected rivalries, back before the Big Ten went to divisions. I recall seeing jokes about that years ago on one of their boards. They thought it was strange that they'd be assigned Iowa as a protected rival and took it upon themselves to spice it up as best they could, because they really had no natural hatred that you find in many rivalries.

On a lighter note, I saw a post awhile back saying Michigan State was their biggest rival in basketball because MSU challenges them for Big Ten titles more often than we do, and they've been too busy wiping their shoes on us this century to consider us a rival anymore. That discussion went south pretty quickly when someone pointed out they are 15-17 against IU this century.

Although I agree with the premise, it is flawed by past history(in my lifetime any way).  George King, a proven commodity.  Fred Schaus, a proven commodity.  Lee Rose, an up and comer that led Charlotte to the FF in '77 and took the Boilers there in '80.  Then there is Gene Keady.  Gene really got his start at Arky under Eddie Sutton.  Got the gig at WKU and impressed.  Up and comer.  Now the thing is Gene was at Purdue for 25 years?  Painter was an up and comer.  I think us IU fans would be fooling ourselves to think Purdue can't land a good man.  My guess is Painter is gonna be there for awhile and do his share of winning.  Purdue after all is in the state of Indiana.

Purdue may be able to land a great coach, but Purdue won't be able to keep a great coach. It is a stepping stone job. Even Painter flirted with Missouri a little, it may have been just to get a bigger raise for himself or his assistants, but he did flirt with it when it was open. Had PU not met some of his requests, I believe he would have been off to Missouri. Painter has had the right level of success that PU is pleased with him and other schools do not view him as an elite level coach.

Just my $.02.

Then the question becomes......"what is an elite level coach"?  Definition?  Cal, Pitino, Knight, K...?  But what is the definition, not an opinion.

I see PU on the same level as Illinois and Bill Self who was not yet an Elite coach used them as a stepping stone to Kansas.

I think a coach needs multiple FF runs to be considered elite.

An elite coach is like porn.  You know it when you see it.  Greg Marshall is an elite coach despite only 1 FF.

I think Marshall is in the 2nd tier but not elite. Elite IMO has to have multiple FF's  maybe not a championship because I think Brad Stevens is Elite  but its hard saying elite without a championship.  The list of active Elite coaches is very small. A lot of very good ones but elite....

Well.....enter at your own risk!!!!!!!!!   Not me.

Well, it's at least a few levels of morality above gawking at car wrecks or making fun of disabled kids.

Who knows...I mean people ask STBoiler why he comes here regularly, but I can identify to a degree, although I haven't cared enough what was said over there to sign up and defend IU's honor.  Reading is enough entertainment for me.
