Whenever the talk of free throw shooting comes up, I always revert back to the legendary coach of Valpo High.... Virgil Sweet. Who's teams led the nation in free throw shooting, and once had a player during lunch break connect of 409 consecutive free throws ( legend has is, that he would have hit more, but had to stop to get back to class_.

Anyway.  Coach Sweet had 20 measures for shooting free throws. (Yes, he wrote a book about it)

1. Develope a Ritual.

2. Controlled Tension.

3. Consistent placement of Feet.

4. Free hand on side of Ball.

5. Second finger points to air  Valve.

6. Equal spread of Fingers.

7. Thumb and finger at 45 degree Angle.

8. Wrist Hyperextended.

9. Elbow Up.

10. Sight over index Finger.

11. Look at near Edge.

12. Weight on front Foot.

13. Flex knee of front Leg.

14. Flex the Hips.

15. Two second Pause.

16. Extend the joints of the legs, hip, and Arm.

17. Flex Wrist.

18. Propel ball with 3 Fingers.

19. Arm follows arch on follow Through.

20. Drop ball over near edge of Rim.

The most Free throws that I hit in a row is like 55 and I always had the same routine.  I dribble 3 times then take a deep breath and one more dribble.  I then took another breath and concentrated on the front of the rim then I started my motion by bending  your knees then follow through with the shot.  Also I always shot the ball with my hands on the seams and not crossing over the seams.
