The silver lining on his anticipated redshirt is that we'll have a very good player and shooter returning next season, a year older and with the growth that comes with being with the team and practicing and weight training, to go with the strong class of incoming guys and the other returning players. I expect Romeo to go pro, but with Hunter, that's a big help to bridge the gap.

And Race will be a 25 year old man.

I'm guessing it's a long shot for him to come back yet this season.  But if he progresses fast who knows.   Muscle memory is an amazing thing.   No he won't be 100% by any means but a spark off the bench for a few minutes a game...

Go Hoosiers!!!

I thought Hunter would be a 2 or 3 year player. So if he can play, for the team you burn that Red shirt. The other side of that is, you can't see other injuries coming or if he wants 4 years, then you screw the kid if he comes back for a hand full of games. I think Archie, unlike Crean, will use the red shirt and not screw the kids.

Agreed Long Term versus Short Term

Race Thompson can probably get a masters now and IU will likely at some point have a top 100 player with 5 years of coaching under his belt.

With Hunter maybe he’s a guy that leaves early and thus instead of 2 1/2 we only get him for two but maybe he sticks around for 4 and we get that benefit.

My assumptions for the 2019-2020 season(not looking past this season but I am one to always look towards the future of my teams):

PG - Rob P/Durham

SG - Green/Demezi/Franklin

SF - Hunter(Assuming he's healthy)/Brooks(assuming he chooses IU like others are saying)

PF - Smith/Race/Forrester

C - TJD/DeRon/Moore

My fear would be lack of depth again for next season if for some reason Hunter and Race struggle to get/stay healthy.

And we’re going to lack shooting and experience again.

Experience?

Look, you know I don’t subscribe to this theory, but you know everyone on here’s going to be talking about how “8 of our 13 scholarship players are underclassmen,” “we lack senior leadership with only two seniors,” and “Archie didn’t recruit any of our upperclassmen.”  If there’s one thing IU is still elite at, it’s making excuses for underperformance.

Here and reality are two different things.  I don't give a damn about "They ain't Archies guys".  Because he went and talked to those guys to come(stay at) to IU once he got the gig.

What concerns me about the players we have and the ones coming in is that are any of them pure shooters. We must have 3 or more players than can shoot the ball. That is why Michigan is so good is because you can take away one or two of their players and it doesn't hurt them. You take away one of our scorers and we are done. Nebraska played a great game against us and what they did is a blueprint to beat us. Pack it in the middle, take away our drives and make us shoot it from the outside. Game, set, match, our goose was cooked!

you know, i believe Hunter will be a very good player some day, but i don't think many people saw him as a starter coming into the season.  sure it hurts our depth to not have him, but i think it's a little much to count his injury as justification for us performing this poorly.

He was a Gold jersey winner before the season started. I absolutely thought he would start. He is a really good shooter too. The shots Justin and Mcbob can't or won't shoot...corner and top of the key 3s....this could can nail that...and get to the bucket and finish too. I didn't think Rob would be able to physically hold his own to start...but he is doing and admirable job. We can win without "pure shooters". We need confident shooters that can and will knock down shots in rythem. Al, Rob, Green, Hunter, and Anderson can do that. We will be much more balanced I would say...right now guys stand around and watch Romeo and Juwan do it all. My worries is we still don't have much post presence...and our rebounding....we need to rebound as a team! That is killing us right now. Nebraska was a veteran team...but not really good rebounders..in fact last in the B1G...but they still killed us on the boards.

How do we know Hunter is a knockdown shooter?

Well he won his gold jersey due to “prolific shooting”.  Also, watch his highlights.  He’s not a 3pt specialist, but he absolutely someone who would have come in and given us another shooting/scoring option.

Agreed. I’ve watched everything I can find on him on the internet. Even reports say he is good shooter. In fact I would even say he looks like a better shooter than Romeo. Not player of course but he has nice form on his shot and also knows how to maneuver and use his body also to score at the basket. He will be a nice 3 and D guy. I’d love to have him getting those opportunities that McRoberts and Smith have had this season. A much natural scorer than either. We played awful last night and nothing would change that. Came out flat and didn’t value possessions or the ball but Hunter is a difference maker. If Keion can defend the 2 and we play hunter at the 3 we would have a long versitle lineup next year.
